Society's Child
The Justice Department this week highlighted the case of child rapist Juan Ramon Vasquez, who just pleaded guilty to illegal re-entry.
The illegal immigrant from Honduras previously was in Philadelphia custody on local charges back in 2014. But when those charges were dropped a year later, city officials ignored an ICE detainer. Vasquez was later arrested and convicted for raping a child and unlawful sexual contact with a minor.
He is now serving between eight and 20 years in prison.
"The facts of this case highlight the danger posed by the City of Philadelphia's decision to disregard ICE detainers and release previously deported aliens from local custody," U.S. Attorney William McSwain said in a statement, accusing Philadelphia of giving Vasquez a "free pass."
A video has emerged online of a brutal alcohol-induced fight between three women and a man in the center of Bradford, West Yorkshire. The three-minute mobile phone clip is believed to have been filmed outside The Turls Green, a Wetherspoon pub.
The video beings with a woman in a beige dress lying face down on the ground. A man in a black T-shirt can be seen walking in his socks to pick up his shoe, which is lying next to her.
The woman tries to follow him, but she fails to stand up and falls over again, and is cheered on by the crowd.
The Grand Mosque in the town of Weizhou in Ningxia, which has numerous domes and minarets in a Middle Eastern style, did not receive proper permits before construction, officials in the town said in a notice on 3 August.
It would be forcibly demolished on Friday, they added in the note, which was widely circulated among Chinese Muslims on social media.
The protest on Friday comes as faith groups, which were largely tolerated in the past, have seen their freedoms reduced as the government seeks to "Sinicise" religions by making the faithful prioritise allegiance to the officially atheist ruling Communist Party.
Islamic crescents and domes have been stripped from mosques, Christian churches shut down and bibles seized, and Tibetan children have been moved from Buddhist temples to schools.
"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech." ― Benjamin FranklinWhat a mess.
As America has become ever more polarized, and those polarized factions have become more militant and less inclined to listen to-or even allow for the existence of-other viewpoints, we are fast becoming a nation of people who just can't get along.
Here's the thing: if Americans don't learn how to get along-at the very least, agreeing to disagree and respecting each other's right to subscribe to beliefs and opinions that may be offensive, hateful, intolerant or merely different-then we're going to soon find that we have no rights whatsoever (to speak, assemble, agree, disagree, protest, opt in, opt out, or forge our own paths as individuals).
But will these additional policies work? Or will they only result in a more 'toxic' military atmosphere? Are the ideals of 'diversity, inclusivity, and equity' compatible with the purpose of a military as an effective fighting force, or are they mutually exclusive? Today on the Truth Perspective we look at recent developments of gender politics in the military, with Australia as a case study and ask the question: are such policies making the military a better institution, or just making it weak?

Western Canada Select (WCS) recently fell below $40 per barrel, dropping to as low as $38 per barrel on Tuesday. That put it roughly $31 per barrel below WTI, the largest discount since 2013.
The sharp decline in WCS prices is a reflection of a shortage of pipeline capacity. Much of the talk about pipeline bottlenecks these days focuses on the Permian basin, and the unfolding slowdown in shale drilling, which could curtail U.S. oil production growth. But Canada's oil industry was contending with an inability to build new pipeline infrastructure long before Texas shale drillers.
However, the problem has grown more acute over the last 12 months. Even as pipeline takeaway capacity hasn't budged, Canadian oil production continues to rise. Output could jump by around 230,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2018, followed by another 265,000-bpd increase in 2019, according to the International Energy Agency.
First, let me say that I have no indication that ANY Russian official had ANYTHING to do with the American elections other than rooting for this politician as opposed to another. Now that this is settled, I want to present a series of proofs that the United States has meddled in just about every election on Earth. Let's start with Moldova in 2005.

"Just like catcalling, I don't owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Thursday. "And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one."

In videos posted to YouTube over the past three weeks, the train surfers are seen running, action movie-style, from car to car.
In a clip posted July 14, the surfers hop onto the roof of a subway car from an overhang at the aboveground Avenue H station in Brooklyn. At one point, the future defendants have to quickly duck down to avoid being decapitated by an overpass.

Perhaps this is a good thing for Republicans.
The SFGate.com website, home of the SFGate news and Chronicle publications of San Francisco, heralded Nancy Pelosi's appearance at a drag queen contest as a significant political event, especially when Mrs. Pelosi, who claims to be Roman Catholic, threw slop all over her faith by both being a judge at this event, and by comparing the success of politicians to that of these men who dress as women and who are often sexually deranged.
After appearing on an episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that politicians could learn a thing or two from drag queens.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter about her appearance on the show Thursday night, Pelosi said, "This idea of people believing in themselves, being themselves, taking pride in themselves, is not just a lesson for politicians but for everyone in the country. And that's why I was so excited and couldn't resist being on the show."
