Ferguson police identify Michael Brown shooter as Officer Darren Wilson

Image

Authorities named Darren Wilson as the police officer who killed an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri last weekend, saying the officer had a good record and the incident came in the aftermath of a robbery in which the teen was a suspect.

Wilson, who shot and killed 18-year-old Michael Brown on Saturday afternoon outside an apartment complex, had served six years on the force and had a good record, Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said at a news conference Friday.

Jackson said there had been a report of a robbery of cigars in a convenience store in the area a few minutes before Wilson encountered Brown walking down the street near an apartment complex. The robbery suspect had been described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt, according to police records Jackson released Friday.

The deadly interaction was swift: Jackson said Wilson encountered Brown at 12:01 p.m. and had shot him by 12:04 p.m.

Comment: In the wake of the tragic shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, there has been widespread protesting. As people continue to stand their ground and express their outrage at yet another example of police brutality, the police have reacted as can be expected: they have responded with more police brutality and intimidation.

Fed by the military-industrial complex, even small, local police forces have been beefed up to the extreme with 21st century military technology. And now that they have it, they fully intend to use it.

The above is an excellent, yet brief, compilation of the events that led to Mike Brown's murder. It puts the tragedy within a perspective of the larger systems in which innocent people die, the people's will is smashed, and America seems further ground into the dust.

Ferguson, Mo. is a small overwhelmingly black town whose government and police are white. The Ferguson police murdered an 18 year old black kid who has his hands over his head. Moreover, it is unclear that the kid had committed any offense. If you take a look at the photo of the three goon thugs pointing military rifles in his face at point blank range, any one of the over-sized goons unarmed could have restrained the small kid.

So what did the police goons do? They shot him to death.

This is murder. There is no question whatsoever that it is murder. But it will be covered up by the white government and the white police force if protests are limited to the black small town population of Ferguson. Who cares about them? Justice? That's only for the mega-rich.

13 cops brutally arrest 15 year old girl because one officer thought he 'smelled weed'

police brutality
Injuries Sustained by a 15-year-old girl inflicted by police.
Residents of the Countryside mobile home park in Fargo, ND have expressed concerns over racial profiling and police misconduct for some time. A recent cellphone video has captured a brutal example of this misconduct.

On July 25th, 2014 at 11:30 PM a 15 year old girl was sitting in a car in front of her sister's house, charging her phone when 2 Fargo police officers approached her and accused her of smoking marijuana.

After telling the officers that she was actually charging her phone and not smoking marijuana, the 15-year-old was then violently dragged from the car.

According to the People's Press Project, the girl explained that when officers removed her from the car they caused,
excruciating pain to her arms and wrists, which she said were pulled too forcefully and too far up, and to her wrists which she said were handcuffed too tightly causing her circulation to be cut off. The 15 year old girl also stated that during the violent and painful arrest, her head was repeatedly pounded into the hood of the parked car outside her sister's house, then they wrestled her to the ground with additional officers who arrived on the scene, (4 participating in the arrest and 13 officers in total), hog tied her and put her in the back seat of a squad car.

I'm writing now from my home, but I still feel dizzy from shock and nauseated by the sights and smells on my visit to Khan Younis and Khuza'a.

Yesterday I decided to use the opportunity of the ceasefire to visit my family in Khan Younis. I especially wanted to see my sister who had open heart surgery before Israel's assault. I hadn't seen her for 36 days. I'm lucky that I have enough fuel in my car to drive 24 kilometers (15 miles) so I struck out towards the south.

I drove down Salaheddin Road and passed rubble from mosques, houses, and factories. Some buildings were destroyed completely and some partially. Later on in my drive, I saw dozens of big trees uprooted and smashed, fruit trees destroyed and farms and gardens decimated and ruined. The Israeli bombs were aimed to destroy the infrastructure, to destroy Gaza's economy. Even the main cookie factory was targeted and destroyed.

I passed UN trucks distributing food to people in long lines. This siege and assault by the Israelis has made everyone in the Gaza Strip live as a refugee, missing basic needs and struggling to survive.

New York gubernatorial candidate arrested for filming arrest, charged with menacing police

Randy Credico
Randy Credico
Randy Credico, the challenger to Governor Andrew Cuomo in New York's upcoming primary election, was arrested, handcuffed and jailed Thursday for video recording two plainclothes police officers aggressively arresting a man - only days after the NYPD issued a memo to officers stating recording is allowed.

Credico began recording video on his cell phone after witnessing two men without badges aggressively stopping an older black man at the Van Cortland Park subway station in the Bronx. Credico, who has spoken out against New York City's "stop-and-frisk" policy, was on his way to a campaign interview when he saw the older gentleman being arrested.

"The guy got right into my face, and says, you've got to move back," Credico told radio host Fred Dicker, while in a holding cell in the Bronx. "The next thing you know I got arrested."

Power plays: Texas Gov. Rick Perry indicted on two felony charges

A state grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on two felony charges of abuse of power late Friday afternoon. The charges, one count each of abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant, stem from allegations that Perry tried to force Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg to resign in 2013.

From KXAN:
At the center of the issue is a complaint about intimidation stemming from Perry's threat to veto of $7.5 million in state funding to the Public Integrity Unit run by Lehmberg's office. The threat came after she pleaded guilty to drunk driving and served a 45-day sentence; Perry called on her to step down but she refused to resign her position. Perry then vetoed the funding for the PIU.
According to the New York Times, when Perry vetoed the unit in 2013, the PIU was investigating accusations of mismanagement and corruption related to one of Perry's landmark initiatives, the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas

A 91-year-old Dutch man who was honored with Israel's Righteous Among the Nations medal for rescuing a Jewish boy during WWII, has returned the award, after he learnt his six relatives were killed in the Gaza strip by an Israeli missile.

The man, Henk Zanoli, sent the medal back to the place where he received it - the Israeli Embassy in The Hague, explaining in a letter attached that it wasn't an easy decision for him.

"It is with great sorrow that I am herewith returning the medal I received as an honor and a token of appreciation from the State of Israel," reads the letter, published by Haaretz on Friday.

Zanoli and his late mother, Johana Zanoli-Smit, were honored by the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in 2011 for having saved a Jewish child, Elhanan Pinto, born in 1932, during the Nazi occupation of Holland.

Police in Ferguson, Missouri, once charged a man with destruction of property for bleeding on their uniforms while four of them allegedly beat him.

"On and/or about the 20th day of Sept. 20, 2009 at or near 222 S. Florissant within the corporate limits of Ferguson, Missouri, the above named defendant did then and there unlawfully commit the offense of 'property damage' to wit did transfer blood to the uniform," reads the charge sheet.

The address is the headquarters of the Ferguson Police Department, where a 52-year-old welder named Henry Davis was taken in the predawn hours on that date. He had been arrested for an outstanding warrant that proved to actually be for another man of the same surname, but a different middle name and Social Security number.

Polanski cancels appearance for 'lifetime achievement award' after the Swiss remind him that he's a paedophile

The Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski has been forced to pull out of an appearance at the Locarno film festival, where he was due to pick up a lifetime achievement award, after Swiss politicians and newspapers accused him of being a paedophile.

The 80-year-old director of Chinatown and The Pianist, who is still wanted in the US on nearly 40-year-old sexual-assault charges, issued a statement apologising for his decision not to travel from his home in France. The film-maker had been due to present his new film Venus in Fur, which stars his wife, Emmanuelle Seigner, at an outdoor screening in Locarno's Piazza Grande on Thursday.

"Dear Friends, I am sorry to inform you that having considered the extent to which my planned appearance at the Locarno festival provokes tensions and controversies among those opposed to my visit, even as I respect their opinions, it is with a heavy heart that I must cancel my visit," he said. "I am deeply saddened to disappoint you."

Polanski fled the US for France in 1977 after he was accused of plying 13-year-old Samantha Geimer with champagne and Quaaludes during a modelling shoot at his friend Jack Nicholson's house in Los Angeles, then raping her. He skipped the country after it became clear he could face a 50-year sentence, despite having already served 42 days behind bars as part of a 90-day plea bargain in which he accepted a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor that he had assumed deferred the possibility of further punishment.
