The man, one of 24 men accused of raping the young girl, was attacked by an angry mob of lawyers and members of the public after his Mahila court appearance on Tuesday. He can be seen tumbling down the stairs of the court building before being repeatedly kicked while lying on the floor.
The court remanded 18 of the rape suspects to judicial custody until July 31. They are accused of raping the child, who has a hearing impairment, over a period of seven months at the apartment complex she shared with her family.
The men worked in the building as elevator operators, plumbers or security guards and allegedly sedated the girl before taking her to vacant apartments - at times filming the assault.
The horrific pattern of sexual assault was reportedly uncovered after the victim told her elder sister she had been suffering with stomach pain. "She told her sister that she was raped, sometimes even gang-raped, by the men working in the apartment they lived in," Chennai Police told the New Indian Express.
"The question of building a bridge between Sakhalin and the mainland has long been discussed, for decades. It has long been a dream of the people living on the island," Putin said at a meeting with Sakhalin Governor Oleg Kozhemyako on Tuesday. Putin said he instructed the Russian government to work on the feasibility of the project.
The Russian president noted that this would make life easier for people: "You can come, leave at any time of the year, in any weather." Sakhalin is the only remaining region in Russia without a land connection to the mainland. Crimea was recently connected when Europe's longest bridge was built in May.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office conducted an internal investigation but the details of their findings have not yet been made public. Now, Stevens' family-after more than a year of not getting any answers and having only the Sheriff's Office to blame-is planning on filing a lawsuit against the department for the death of their loved one.
Stevens was arrested for "disorderly conduct" and was taken to jail, but as he was leaving, a dispute between the 29-year-old and officers led to an escalation of force involving at least 10 YCSO officers. In newly released video footage of the attack, which lasted over 10 minutes, a gaggle of officers can be seen appearing to kick and punch Stevens, who reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury possibly leading to his death.
In an open letter, Tourism Flanders invited Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to a meeting over "a cup of coffee or a Belgian beer" to discuss its regulations.
The letter read: "We have noticed that Facebook consistently rejects works of art by our beloved Peter Paul Rubens. Even though we secretly have to laugh about it, your cultural censorship is making life rather difficult for us."
The move comes after Facebook removed one of its ads featuring Rubens' famous Descent from the Cross painting.
An internal evaluation by the federal police found that, as of the end of May, only 11,100 scheduled deportations had been successful out of a planned 23,900, according to the report by Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten.
Some 11,500 refugees were listed as "not found" on their appointed day, with the remaining 1,300 cases abandoned for various other reasons. Around 150 people stayed because pilots refused to take them, and in more than 500 cases, deportation was stopped because of "active or passive resistance."

Cavil, who is a black Christian, found himself launched into the national spotlight after he shared a picture of a receipt on Facebook, which displayed no tip and "We don't tip terrorist" written across the top. His name - Khalil, which is of Arabic origin - was circled. The photo of the receipt showed the note written on the $108 bill. Cavil's employer, the Saltgrass Steak House, swiftly issued a life ban to the seemingly racist customer.
Saltgrass' Chief Operating Officer Terry Turney said in a statement following the July 14 incident that the steakhouse will "stand by and support our employee," adding that "racism of any form is unacceptable, and we have banned this customer from returning to our establishment."
Comment: When victimhood becomes weaponized, you get opportunists like Cavil who will make up a story in order to get attention and create the narrative of "oppression" that they think they live under.
