Take populism global! Italy's new prime minister shows the way for Trump

italy migrants new president
The Great and the Good are furious about Donald Trump's conduct at the G7 Summit, as journalists can't believe an American president had the temerity to stand up for his nation's interests at an international conference. They are especially incensed that President Trump broached re-admitting Russia into the summit, with the arch-traitor John McCain condemning the Commander-in-Chief on Twitter.

Yet for all the talk of President Trump having problems with "allies," it is the European Union that is facing rebellion within its own ranks. As President Trump recognized on his Twitter account, the new government of Italy is now one of his strongest international supporters.

Police in Kansas City are facing tough questions after shooting and killing three people in less than an hour. The city's police chief has defended the actions of officers, saying they "did what they thought was necessary."

The deaths occurred in two separate police shootings in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday. The first fatality was a woman reportedly brandishing a "sword" who was shot after a standoff, the Kansas City Star reported.

Police Captain Lionel Colón said he is confident the shooting "was a last-resort situation to ensure the safety of the public" and noted that some "action" took place that "met the criteria for lethal force."

"She had been seen earlier ... walking around with the sword, which is obviously a threat to the community," Colón said, noting that he was not sure if she had the sword at the time she was shot, or whether she was shot inside the shed or had emerged from the building before police fired at her.

Less than an hour later, two men were shot dead in an unrelated incident 10 miles away, reportedly during a fight over a gun and a golf cart. According to Colón, officers who arrived at the scene returned fire after being shot at.

One of Seattle's top cops found guilty of raping his own daughters

cop abuser arrested
In case after horrifying case, those in positions of power are exposed for their crimes, showing how these positions often attract society's worse. One recent example of this is a police sergeant in Seattle being found guilty on Wednesday for the repeated rape and molestation of his own daughters.

Daniel Amador, 46, had been free on bail as the trial progressed over the last several months. However, he was detained on Wednesday after a jury found him guilty of first-degree child molestation, second-degree child rape, third-degree child rape and first-degree incest.

According to the court documents, this vile top cop routinely raped his older daughter, known in court papers as A.B., about five times a week and also molested his younger daughter, C.A.

The abuse took place for more than a decade and the little girls were unable to tell anyone as their father was a cop. Both of the victims, now ages 24 and 19, described their horrifying childhood in which A.B. was Amador's favorite one to rape while C.A. was regularly belittled.

Minnesota cops ordered paramedics to inject suspects with horse tranquilizer

Police in Minneapolis, Minnesota, have been ordered to "never suggest or demand" that paramedics use powerful horse tranquilizers on suspects, following a report that the practice had spiked in recent years.

The new policy order comes after a report by the city's Office of Police Conduct Review found that paramedics had used ketamine on suspects during police calls 62 times in 2017, up from just three times in 2012. In some cases, emergency personnel injected the tranquilizer into suspects who were already restrained, causing heart and breathing failure and requiring the suspects to be medically revived, reported the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

"Our policy should be clear," said Mayor Jacob Frey. "Cops shouldn't direct medical professionals on health-related issues, and medical professionals shouldn't listen to them."

Two local healthcare officials, Jeffrey Ho and Jon Cole, criticized the report for its "reckless use of anecdotes...to draw uninformed and incorrect conclusions." In a statement, they argued in favor of sedation, claiming that it is sometimes necessary to avoid "allowing people to exhaust themselves to death."

HRW report - Israeli banks fund the 'pillage' Palestine through settlement program and may be guilty of war crimes

A construction of a housing project in the Israeli settlement of Na'ale, near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Deep involvement of Israeli banks in the building of illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank may amount to the war crime of pillage, HRW has said. While the settlements are condemned worldwide, Israel keeps building more.

"Israeli banks are facilitating their expansion and thus bankrolling these abuses," said the Israel/Palestine Advocacy Director of Human Rights Watch (HRW), Sari Bashi, in an article, published in World Policy earlier this week. "The involvement of banks in these transactions can amount to pillage -- that is, seizing private property in conflict situations, in violation of the laws of war."

The official gave an example of the banks' involvement in settlement-related activities: The cooperation between developer Zemach Hammerman and Bank Leumi in constructing a new housing project in the settlement of Alfei Menashe. The developer and the bank have so-called "accompaniment agreements," designed to protect the investments of homebuyers, Bashi explained, adding that similar patterns are used in the development of other Israeli settlements.

Promoting diversity? Non-Muslim teacher wears full face veil, reads from Koran in Swiss school

A teacher in Switzerland has made headlines after wearing a full face veil and reading passages from the Koran out loud during a lesson on Islam, local media reports. The stunt was apparently aimed at promoting diversity.

"She [the teacher] came into class completely veiled without warning and started reading lines from [the] Koran out loud", students from a vocational school in the Swiss capital told local 20 Minuten newspaper.

Though nobody is said to have left the class, the extraordinary move raised a few eyebrows. Some of the students claimed later that "it did not belong in a classroom," the news outlet reports.

The video released by 20 Minuten claims to show the teacher in question wearing a niqab - a Muslim face-covering veil - reading passages from the Koran. Some of the words are bleeped out. The teacher, however, is not a Muslim and reportedly bought the niqab during a vacation in Egypt.

Ireland: A special case of Palestine solidarity

Palestinian flags fly over Dublin City Hall, May 2017.
In the face of Israel's well-funded campaign against supporters of Palestine and BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions), Ireland remains a relatively comfortable base for conducting Palestine solidarity campaigns. In other countries pro-Palestine activists have been put under pressure and many universities have successfully silenced such activism by firing pro-Palestine professors (such as Steven Salaita and Norman Finkelstein) and canceling conferences about Palestine. By contrast, in Ireland, until the March 2017 conference in University College Cork where the university imposed severe limitations on the organizers, conferences on Palestine have gone ahead with the support of universities and university teachers unions (Teachers' Union of Ireland and Irish Federation of University Teachers). Irish people clearly understand the implications of settler colonialism and Palestinians appreciate Irish people's support.

This paper briefly charts the history of the relations between Ireland and the Palestine question. I then use the September 2017 conference 'Freedom of speech and Higher Education: The case of the academic boycott of Israel' held in Trinity College Dublin to highlight the extent of Zionist interference and concomitant university support. I conclude with a brief outline of the work of Academics for Palestine, of which I am the chair.

President Trump speaking to Fox News
US President Donald Trump spoke in admiring terms about North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, praising Kim's ability to get his people to "sit up at attention," and wishing he could do the same.

"He's the head of a country, and I mean he's the strong head," Trump said. "He speaks and his people sit up at attention. I want my people to do the same."

Twitter instantly reacted to Trump's statement, which some of his opponents in the #resistance viewed as proof of his dictatorial ambitions.

US Vice President Mike Pence was repeatedly heckled by protesters during a tax reform speech in Columbus, Ohio, while outside LGBTQ activists held a huge dance party to highlight his dismal record on gay rights.

Pence visited Ohio's capital on Friday as part of a series of events organized by America First Policies to promote Republican tax reforms. His stay coincided with the start of Pride celebrations in the city.

As the vice president touted tax cuts, protesters interrupted with loud calls challenging his policies on immigration, specifically family separation at the border, and LGBTQ rights.

Eva Bartlett: Addressing The Rebel's distorted and lying report on the Toronto (2018) Al Quds Day protest

Eva Bartlett speaks on Al Quds Dat (Toronto)

Al Quds Day - Toronto (2018)
Eva Bartlett
On Al Quds Day in Toronto, Canadians from many faiths and backgrounds came out in solidarity with Palestinians who have been and continue to be brutally oppressed by Israel. Notably, in recent months elite Israeli army snipers have gunned down unarmed Palestinian protesters, including medics, photographers, children.

Corporate media describes these as 'clashes' and thrusts blame on Palestinians, who are protesting for their basic human rights.

See my: Israeli violence against Palestinians will never end as a result of UN & US hypocrisy

The pro-Zionist channel, The Rebel, issued a distorted report on the peaceful Toronto protest, a protest which included numerous informative speeches - speeches not included in The Rebel's report.

This video is my correction to some of the most egregious statements and lies of The Rebel's report.
