Church of England reveals it 'colluded' to cover-up decades of child rape and abuse - but what now?

Church of England
Church of England has just conceded that they conspired to cover up and conceal decades of child sexual abuse by its high-level members.

In one of the most damning admissions to date by the Church of England, the head of the church admitted they "colluded" with and helped to hide the long-term sexual abuse of children and young men.

On Thursday, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby apologized to the victims who spoke out and helped bring their attacker to justice. However, according to the report on how the church handled the case, as well as the slap on the wrist ex-bishop Peter Ball received for decades of abuse, 'justice' is a loosely thrown around term.

According to the AP, Welby ordered the report after Ball was convicted and imprisoned in 2015 for misconduct in public office and indecent assaults against teenagers and young men over a period of 20 years.

A memorial for a murdered Muslim teen was set on fire at Washington's Dupont Circle and a man was detained shortly afterward. Nabra Hassanen, 17, was killed with a baseball bat Sunday in what police controversially described as a "road rage" incident.

John Solomon, 24, of South Carolina, was arrested just after 10:00am Wednesday, US Park Police spokeswoman Sergeant Anna Rose said.

"At this time, the incident does not appear to be motivated by bias," she said, according to the New York Daily News.

Cop gets 24-hour vacation after he curb stomps handcuffed man

Zachary Rosen curb-stomping a handcuffed man
On Wednesday, Columbus police chief Kim Jacobs made public the recommendations of 'discipline' against officer Zachary Rosen after he was caught on video curb-stomping a handcuffed man. Rosen will not be charged, he will not even be fired — instead, he will get a single 24-hour suspension. Maybe.

In April, the Free Thought Project was given the video showing Rosen walk up to Demarco Anderson — who was face first on the ground and handcuffed — and stomp his head.

"The strike/stomp was an untrained technique and was found to be unreasonable," police said in a statement last month.

Collapse of masculinity: Millennial men turning to plastic surgery to increase self esteem

Cosmetic procedures are of increasing interest to millennial men, a new industry report found.

Thirty one percent of men said they were extremely likely to consider a cosmetic procedure, either surgical or noninvasive, according to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Among that 31 percent, 58 percent were from 25 to 34 years old and 34 percent were aged 18 to 24 years. Both age ranges are members of the millennial generation.

The top reason cited by respondents pursuing cosmetic procedures to appear younger was wanting to feel better about themselves, followed by the desire to appear less tired or stressed, and then to please their partners. In the 25- to 34-year-old range, 42 percent cited wanting to remain competitive in their career as a reason to go under the knife.

Comment: US society is failing its boys and young men. Masculinity is held as a caricature of hipster metro-sexual lumberjacks at best or is vilified as the root of social evils at worst. Instead of finding meaning in the world through seeking responsibilities, boys are being conditioned to accept that they have little value to offer the world. They're being left behind in education and are underdeveloped in social relationships. The blurring of the lines between masculinity and femininity does not bode well for the whole of society.

East Jerusalem attacks against Israeli police are not acts of terrorism

East Jerusalem is occupied

Israeli forces search a Palestinian man outside Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City on June 16, 2017, following an attack
East Jerusalem is occupied by Israel. It is also illegally annexed. It is also illegally separated from the rest of the West Bank by an illegal wall. In Jerusalem, Israel boasts of 220,000 illegal Jewish settlers settled on land confiscated from 300,000 Palestinian residents who are now landless. It boasts of 50,000 illegally displaced Palestinian Arabs and 685 illegally demolished Palestinian homes that have rendered 2,500 Palestinian Arabs homeless [see sources for this this information here]. All of this is legalized through Israel's jurisprudence, but never legitimized as its fundamental human rights violations are enshrined in military occupation law.

Although the US and Israel both reject the concept of state terrorism (i.e. acts of violence practiced by official state agencies), the above description of Israel's policies and actions in East Jerusalem should be regarded as terrorist activities. Israel's violent activities are premeditated, political in nature, and aimed at civilians - i.e., all the factors generally accepted to constitute elements of terrorism.

A Jerusalem synagogue was vandalized with Nazi swastikas spray-painted on the walls, police say, adding that the perpetrators also tried to burn holy books. A mentally unstable Ultra-Orthodox Haredi man was reportedly arrested in connection with the incident.

Worshippers discovered the vandalism in the Lelov synagogue in the Nachlaot neighborhood on Wednesday morning. The area is known for its many small synagogues.

"Swastikas were spray-painted on the walls of a synagogue in Jerusalem. Also there was an attempt to set fire to books," the police statement, posted on Twitter, read.

The vandals tried to set at least three Torah books on fire, the Jerusalem Post reported, adding that there were at least four swastikas painted on the walls.

Chief Rabbi of Israel David Lau described the incident to the Jerusalem Post as "unthinkable."

"It is unthinkable that worshipers come to a synagogue in the heart of the holy city and discover such a terrible sight," said Lau.

Pennsylvania's highest court has said the public should have access to police dashcam video unless the footage is proven to be related to an ongoing investigation. Lawmakers, however, are voting to keep the recordings secret.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania ruled5-2 in favor of a lower court decision to grant access to dashcam videos from two state troopers with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) who responded to a car crash in 2014.

The case was filed by Michelle Grove, who requested a copy of the police report as well as any video or audio recordings pertaining to the car accident in Potters Mills, about 15 miles east of State College.

Already behind bars for killing a toddler in 1981 and for administering a potentially lethal injection on another young child who survived, former Texas nurse Genene Jones may never walk free, as she now faces two new charges of murder.

Law enforcement suspects the former Texas nurse of killing as many as 60 babies in her care.

On Wednesday, the Bexar County district attorney's office said in a statement that Genene Jones was charged in the September 1981 death of 2-year-old Rosemary Vega. Last month, she was separately charged with the murder of 11-month-old Joshua Sawyer, also in 1981.

Mexico's murder rate reaches 20-year high - 3 killed every hour

Mexico recorded more than 2,000 murders in May, the highest monthly homicide rate in 20 years and a bloody milestone in the country's continuing war on drugs.

As some cases involved multiple killings, some 2,186 investigations were set up for a total of 2,452 murders - an average of three people killed every hour. The previous monthly high for murder probes was 2,131 in May 2011.

"This is the overwhelming and absolute failure of [Mexican President Enrique] Peña Nieto's public safety policy," Alejandro Hope, a Mexican security analyst, told BuzzFeed News.
