Airplane

Why is the USA still insisting visitors are vaccinated when every other country has ended its travel restrictions?

airport masks
I have just undergone another month of air travel visiting four countries and it continues to be a confusing morass of Covid-related regulations. My overriding impression is that some countries and, notably, one airline just cannot let go. I have experienced the complete range of restrictions from no restrictions (this simply used to be called 'flying') through the tyranny of enforced wearing of face masks and Covid testing to the requirement to provide proof of Covid vaccine status.

Croatia

The only frisson of Covid related anxiety I had on a recent visit to Croatia with my wife was when a message came from our driver before we left the U.K. that we would be required to wear a face mask in the car. However, when we arrived at Zagreb airport, he was there maskless and did not ask us to wear one. Our best guess is that this had been an automated message from Booking.com that had not been deactivated since the days of Covid tyranny. Given that this was Croatia, that message must have been extremely dated.

Canada's harrowing euthanasia experiment should be a warning to the world

The representative of the medical regulator spoke in a straightforward, unemotional voice, as though his statements were self-evidently true. Sick children between the ages of 14 and 17, he told the parliamentary committee, should be allowed to choose to commit suicide with medical assistance.

Parents of babies who are born with severe disabilities should be allowed to kill them. Elderly people for whom "life no longer makes any sense" should also be able to end theirs. And so should the mentally ill, and so on and on. Members of the committee ask some follow-up questions, but no one pushes back.

Ever since it burst into the public consciousness almost a year ago, details of Canada's assisted suicide scheme, known euphemistically as MAiD — medical assistance in dying — have shocked and astonished people around the world in equal measure. Harrowing tales of disabled poor people choosing to end their lives because they could not survive on paltry benefits have since proliferated, as have horror stories of doctors and bureaucrats trying to pressure patients into ending their lives.

Associated Press declares 'gender confirmation' surgeries are good for US kids but 'torture' for adults abroad

Associated Press Transgender
A very bizarre article out from the AP this week details accounts of trans-identified individuals in Singapore, who are not able to change their gender markers on their IDs and legal documents without undergoing the "torture" of sex change surgeries, something the AP style guide calls "gender-affirming" or "gender-confirmation" surgeries.

While the AP lauds these surgeries in the US and declares that lawmakers cannot stand in the way of these surgeries, they claim that in other nations, lawmakers should not advocate for them. The AP indicates that not only is it torture to not change legal status without gender surgery, but that the surgery itself is torture, and not providing the surgery is torture.

Comment: Unfortunately the gender ideologues are blind to their own contradictions and will continue to push their agenda onto children at all costs.

The FTX crypto exchange debacle: The Dem money laundering, WEF-supported house of cards that will help usher in new crypto regulation

Sam Bankman-Fried
Good morning, loyal C&C supporters, it's Sunday! Your bonus roundup today includes an extended hot take about what I believe is the "next covid" — by which I mean a government-caused crisis that the government solves for us by making us safer, through regulating conduct that was previously unregulated.

In other words, by deleting liberties for "safety." At some point, it's true, we'll have no liberty remaining at all, but then we'll be perfectly safe! Although our life expectancies will be back to prehistoric levels.

A minor issue.

The "new covid" crisis I'm referring to is the breaking FTX.COM cryptocurrency fraud, which has soaked over a million average investors for billions and, I believe, is handily creating a convenient pretext for broad government cryptocurrency regulation.

Woke culture comes for STEM: The sinister attempts to 'decolonise' mathematics

Mathematicians in British universities are now being asked to 'decolonise' the curriculum. This autumn, the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) - an independent charity which reviews university courses - launched a consultation that urged universities to teach a 'decolonised view' of mathematics.

It is easy when you work at a university to roll your eyes at this sort of thing and play along. But as a mathematics academic, I felt it was my duty to challenge this unscientific proposal. This week I published an open letter to the QAA criticising their consultation and was delighted that a number of high-profile professors and mathematicians from minority groups agreed to add their signatures.

The fact is that colonialism is irrelevant to the validity of mathematics. The Mayan civilisation was doing sophisticated mathematics in the Americas long before Christopher Colombus arrived on the continent.

FBI informant has heart attack on way to testify in Jan. 6th case for Oath Keepers founder

Lawyers for Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes have called an FBI informant to testify as a witness in Rhodes' defense against charges of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Lawyers said that FBI informant was on his way to the trial when he suffered a heart attack.

Greg McWhirter, who served as the Oath Keepers' vice president while informing on the group for the FBI, was set to testify as a defense witness in Rhodes' case on Tuesday, the New York Times reported. At an impromptu meeting on Tuesday, Rhodes' attorneys said McWhirter had boarded a plane to come testify for the trial but had to be taken off and hospitalized over a heart attack.

According to the New York Times, McWhirter is the second FBI confidential source that they are aware of that was in position to pass information about the Oath Keepers' activities on Jan. 6, 2021 to federal authorities. Rhodes' defense team made the unusual move to call McWhirter to testify as a defense witness after federal prosecutors rested their case last week without calling him and several other cooperating witnesses to testify against Rhodes.

Unleash the trial lawyers to end mutilation of gender-dysphoric children

neurosurgeon

Many in the medical and political establishments are pushing "gender-affirming care" as the only humane means of treating children who believe they are not the sex they were born. This so-called care includes radical interventions such as puberty blocking, mastectomies, facial surgeries, and even genital removal. One recent study found that the median age for mastectomies in such cases is 16 — meaning that half of the girls whose breasts were cut off were under that age, and indeed, some were as young as twelve.

How do you stop such a destructive juggernaut? Lawyers! It seems to me that eventually suing doctors and others who pushed or cooperated with such drastic actions will become the equivalent for lawyers of the "Camp Lejeune" lawsuits currently proliferating and being advertised ubiquitously on television.

It's Already Starting

This hoped-for remedial has already started in England, where a class-action lawsuit will soon be filed against a now closed youth gender clinic. And now, Americans who were subjected to such interventions while under age — and later "de-transitioned" to the sex they were born — may be thinking about suing.

A GOP candidate has managed a victory in Idaho after election officials discovered and corrected a computer glitch.

According to reports, the race was initially scored as a Democratic victory for the state House, but it has now been designated a Republican win. The Associated Press reported Thursday:
"Chief Deputy Secretary of State Chad Houck said the House seat representing Jerome, Blaine and Lincoln counties went to Republican Jack Nelsen, not Democrat Karma Metzler Fitzgerald, after more than 700 votes were added to the count on the state website late Thursday morning.

"Houck said Jerome County officials noticed vote totals on the secretary of state's website didn't match their count for the district — District 26. Houck said his office worked with county officials starting Wednesday and discovered a glitch that prevented early votes in the county from being tallied on the state's website."
Initially, the results had Nelsen losing by several hundred votes, but after authorities found and corrected the glitch, he eked out an 83-vote win.

Unpopularity contest: How midterm 'successes' bring US Democrats to a historic dilemma

Democrats celebrating

To hold their ground, the Democrats had to make promises that risk alienating their key donors

Pictures of a smirking President Biden graced the front pages of newspapers in the days following the midterm elections. The worst fears of the Democrats - that they would lose both houses of Congress to the Republicans in an electoral debacle that would pave the way to a MAGA Trump presidency in 2024 - remained unrealized. The feared 'red wave' had turned into a 'red ripple', and President Biden was already talking of running again in 2024, when he will be 82.

How sound is this assessment? While the results are yet to be finalized, we know that the Democrats will likely continue narrowly controlling the Senate thanks to the casting vote of the vice president, and that the Republicans will gain a small majority in the House.

All the praise for Biden for not losing more comes from comparisons with past midterm losses for incumbent presidents. However, this fails to take account of critical recent changes which, if factored in, indicate not so much a secure electoral future for the Democrats but the possibility that the Democrats may have jumped from the proverbial frying pan of the increasingly complex structure of US politics, into the fire.

Spain's truckers renew strike after government fails to uphold pay deal, protests in March caused supply shortages

Spain strike
Thousands of Spanish truck drivers began an indefinite strike on Monday because they say their costs outweigh what they earn.

The industrial action was called by the same platform behind a crippling strike in March, which unofficially represents self-employed truck drivers and small businesses.

While the majority of Spain's truck drivers continued operating normally and police were deployed to ensure their work would not be interrupted, the day began with some minor incidents.

Comment: Strikes and protests are occurring across Europe (and beyond), and some of them are nationwide, and it's highly likely that these actions are just the beginning of much greater unrest, and that Black Friday (as noted in the article) will be the least of people's concerns:
