Get Woke, Go Broke: Disney to lay off employees after billions in operating losses

The company that once defined family entertainment is going from media giant to epic failure, suffering over $1.4 billion in streaming losses and a stock drop of around 39% for the year. And, it would appear that these financial declines are inevitably leading to employee layoffs.

Disney has put a freeze on hiring, it is limited employee travel and is also reviewing workers for efficiency with plans to introduce cuts as a means to make the company "more nimble." CEO Bob Chapek noted in a leaked memo to senior staff:
As we work through this evaluation process, we will look at every avenue of operations and labor to find savings, and we do anticipate some staff reductions as part of this review.

...I am fully aware this will be a difficult process for many of you and your teams. We are going to have to make tough and uncomfortable decisions.
Chapek mentions in the same memo the problem of "macroeconomic factors" out of Disney's control. He does not, however, mention his habit of bending the knee and groveling to woke activists, attempting to sabotage Florida's anti-grooming legislation for public schools, or the company's steady supply of content that pushes far-left narratives.

UK government clarifies vaccine injured can sue manufacturers despite indemnity

covid vaccine
The Government has responded to a petition calling on it to "remove indemnity from the manufacturers of COVID-19 vaccines, to allow individuals to pursue claims for compensation against them" by clarifying that "individuals' right to sue the producers of the vaccine" has not been removed.

Instead, the indemnity "determines who will pay the manufacturer's losses arising from such a claim". This means the vaccine injured can sue the manufacturers, though the Government will foot the bill.

The Government's response states:
In August 2021, amendments to the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 were made to support the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines. Although the legislation provides partial immunity from civil liability for vaccines supplied under emergency authorisation, it preserves individuals' right to sue the producers of the vaccine under Part 1 of the Consumer Protection Act 1987. This provides an important level of protection if the safety of the product is not such as people are generally entitled to expect, taking all circumstances into account, and if that defect causes personal injury.

IMF issues gloomy forecast for global economy

The International Monetary Fund has downgraded its forecast for the global economy, saying in its latest report compiled for the upcoming G20 summit that the "outlook is gloomier" than previously expected.

The IMF has been gradually slashing its forecast for global growth in 2023 since January, when it anticipated 3.8% growth. In October the fund lowered its projection from July's posting of 2.9% to 2.7%, saying: "we expect countries accounting for more than one third of global output to contract during part of this year or next."

Analysts have warned of a 25% probability that downside risks resulting from the Ukraine conflict, along with stubborn inflation, would slow the global economy to less than 2%.

The IMF noted that there has been a steady worsening in recent months for purchasing manager indices (PMI) which track a range of G20 economies.

German army gets 'SS' uniforms

The German Defense Ministry was forced into damage-control mode last week after uniforms bearing the initials 'SS' were delivered to thousands of soldiers.

The controversial abbreviation merely stood for the uniform size, identified as 'S-Short' by the Bild tabloid, which branded the incident a "mega fail." Despite the innocent meaning of the SS on the uniforms, the letters were still a no-go for the German Armed Forces, given the strong association with the infamous Nazi "Schutzstaffel" (Protection Squadron) unit.

A paramilitary wing of the Nazis, the SS grew into a major force responsible for state security surveillance and Nazi terror policies, including running concentration and extermination camps, where millions of people perished. It was declared a criminal organization at the post-war Nuremberg trials.

The soldiers who refused the uniforms were instructed to get rid of the letters themselves. According to Bild, Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht ordered the troops to either completely "cut off" the labels containing the letters, or just to cut out the part with the size designation.

'Laziness epidemic' grips France - study

Laziness regularly prevents nearly half of the French population from leaving their homes, a new study has revealed. The "epidemic of laziness," which is affecting roughly 45% of the population, is a direct consequence of the Covid lockdowns, the researchers say.

"This laziness to leave home particularly affects the medium age groups: 52% among 25-34 year olds and 53% among 35-49 year olds, against only 33% of those 65 and over," according to the study by the International Market Research Group (IFOP) and the Jean-Jaures foundation think tank.

The survey, which was published last week, found that "the appeal of the sofa seems to be very powerful," and the word "bed" had positive connotations for 74% of the respondents.

According to the research, the pandemic and strict lockdowns have had "a profound impact" on the attitude of the French to work, family life, free time, and personal space. Some 37% of respondents said they were less motivated than before in their work, and 41% complained about feeling more tired.

Israel soldier mistakenly kills Israeli man he suspected was a 'Palestinian attacker'

On Monday, an Israeli soldier shot a man after he mistakenly thought he was a Palestinian who wanted to attack him in the central city of Ra'anana.

"A soldier on Monday shot a man suspected of being an attacker at the Ra'anana Junction," the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation said.

"The 40-year-old was taken to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba in serious condition, where he was declared dead," it added.

Comment: It seems likely that the soldier's suspicion was basically groundless and he fired primarily because he thought he was shooting to kill a Palestinian, a crime which he would never have been convicted for. This reveals what Palestinians must endure at the hands of Israel on a daily basis, except the accusations against them are never exonerated.

As perhaps a sign of how desperate Israel is to achieve its depraved goals, 2022 was recently reported to have been the deadliest year for Palestinians on the West bank since 2005.

Ontario, Canada recommends return to masking this winter

Dr. Kieran Moore Rob Ford
Ontario's chief medical officer of health is recommending that all Ontarians wear a mask in indoor settings, including children between the ages of 2 and 5.

Dr. Kieran Moore made the announcement at a press conference on Monday morning, citing the upcoming peak of flu season and the prevalence of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as reasons.

"I'm strongly recommending that all Ontarians, not just those at high risk, wear a mask in indoor public settings, especially around our most vulnerable Ontarians, the very young and the very old," Moore said in his statement.

Best of the Web: The real story behind drag queen story hour

Aimed at children, the phenomenon is far more subversive than its defenders claim.

Drag Queen Story Hour — in which performers in drag read books to kids in libraries, schools, and bookstores — has become a cultural flashpoint. The political Right has denounced these performances as sexual transgressions against children, while the political Left has defended them as an expression of LGBTQ pride. The intellectual debate has even spilled into real-world conflict: right-wing militants affiliated with the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters have staged protests against drag events for children, while their counterparts in the left-wing Antifa movement have responded with offers to serve as a protection force for the drag queens.

Families with children find themselves caught in the middle. Drag Queen Story Hour pitches itself as a family-friendly event to promote reading, tolerance, and inclusion. "In spaces like this," the organization's website reads, "kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where everyone can be their authentic selves." But many parents, even if reluctant to say it publicly, have an instinctual distrust of adult men in women's clothing dancing and exploring sexual themes with their children.
