Protesters in southern China clashed with police in a rare display of public opposition to anti-Covid measures, videos posted online showed, after lockdowns in the area were extended over a surge in infections.

Videos circulating on social media since Monday night and verified by AFP showed hundreds taking to the street in the industrial metropolis of Guangzhou, some tearing down cordons intended to keep locked-down residents from leaving their homes.

A few scuffled with officials in hazmat suits.

Comment: Whatever China is doing with these lockdowns, we can be pretty sure it's nothing to do with Covid. The powers in China aren't stupid. They're not going to damage themselves economically and risk turning the populace against them for some mythical 'zero-Covid' agenda when they know that Covid isn't really that big a deal.

Three out of four defendants given life sentences for downing a civilian airliner in 2014.

The Hague District Court has found three people guilty in the high-profile case of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17, which was downed amid hostilities in the east of Ukraine in 2014. Russia has criticized the Dutch-led investigation and prosecution as not objective.

One of the men accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence, but three were sentenced to life in prison, partly due to their "detestable" attitude towards the trial, Judge Hendrik Steenhuis said. All four were tried in absentia.

The decision taken on Thursday by a Dutch court on the MH17 plane crash was absolutely political, the Russian Foreign Ministry has insisted in a statement. Earlier in the day, judges found three people guilty of downing the Malaysian passenger jet over Ukraine in 2014.

A court in The Hague found two Russian nationals - Igor Girkin and Sergey Dubinsky - as well as a Ukrainian citizen Leonid Kharchenko guilty of downing the commercial flight. All the three were sentenced to life in prison in absentia. They are also liable for more than €16 million in compensation to the victims' families.

The Dutch court was "under unprecedented pressure" during the hearings, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated, commenting on the verdict. "There can be no talk of objectivity and impartiality under such circumstances," it added, pointing to attempts by Dutch "politicians, prosecutors and media to impose a politically motivated verdict" in this case.

Moscow has made it clear that, in accordance with the country's constitution, it will not be extraditing its citizens.

The court's decision was based on the conclusions of Dutch prosecutors, which, in turn, were built upon the accounts of anonymous witnesses and evidence presented by the Ukrainian Security Service, which is "an interested party" in the case, the ministry argued. Arguments presented by the Russian side, including data declassified by the Russian Defense Ministry were discarded, it added.

Health officials are investigating a potential Ebola case in Colchester, after a patient with suspected symptoms returned to Britain from Africa, where a strain of the deadly virus is circulating in Uganda.

On Wednesday, part of Colchester Hospital in Essex was closed to new patients amid concerns that a patient with a travel history to Africa was developing early symptoms of Ebola, a deadly hemorrhagic fever.

The Telegraph understands that officials at the UK Health Security Agency are testing the patient for a range of diseases as part of routine infection control protocol that kicks in when suspected cases emerge in travellers.

The US and Israel have blamed Iran for the bombing of an oil tanker associated with an Israeli billionaire off the coast of Oman.

The drone attack on the Liberian-flagged Pacific Zircon happened on Tuesday night off the coast of Oman and resulted in damage to the vessel but no casualties. The US Central Command said the debris from the attack showed it was an Iranian "Shahed-series one-way attack drone".

"This unmanned aerial vehicle attack against a civilian vessel in this critical maritime strait demonstrates, once again, the destabilizing nature of Iranian malign activity in the region," General Michael Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Her comments come less than a week after the midterm elections, with Republicans poised to take the House as Democrats retain a narrow control of the Senate.

"We've spent all week hearing nothing but pundits pontificating on what actually happened in this election," Gabbard began, "but if you're like me, you've had enough of that."

Italian police announced a series of raids against the neo-Nazi Order of Hagal organization. Accused of stockpiling weapons and planning terror attacks, the group has established operational ties to the Ukrainian Azov Battalion.

Five members of an Italian neo-Nazi organization known as the "Order of Hagal" were arrested on November 15th while an additional member remains wanted by authorities. He happened to be in Ukraine, fighting Russian forces alongside the Azov Battalion, which has been formally integrated into the Ukrainian military.

The "Hagal" members are accused of plotting terrorist attacks on civilian and police targets. A sixth member of the Hagal group, now considered a fugitive, is in Ukraine and embedded with the Azov Battalion, a neo-Nazi paramilitary group that has been incorporated into the Ukrainian National Guard.

British rock star Roger Waters has hit out against the US for profiting off of the ongoing military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which he says Washington allowed to happen because it was beneficial to American interests.

Discussing US foreign policy on the Bad Faith podcast on YouTube, the Pink Floyd co-founder stated that the conflict in Ukraine was "the best thing to happen to them in the last 10 years," because it was "really good for business."

"Part of their business is making money from the war through making weapons and selling them to the people and taking the profits from it," Waters explained, adding that this money never goes to ordinary people. "It's not you or me, not ordinary people who invest in the war industry. It's people with tons of cash, and they get very well paid when there's war."

Facebook's aim is not to make their users safe. Their aim is to make them feel they are safe, to prevent them from discovering challenging information, prevent them from thinking.

This morning, a friend published a short post on Facebook, drawing attention to how it seemed to him the company was not even bothering any more to refer to the so-called "independent fact-checkers" to justify their censorship. He had re-posted a clip where Fox reporter Tucker Carlson discussed the negative effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccines, referring to peer-reviewed studies. The clip is available here.

No reference to the twenty-something undergrads at the censorship agencies, just this label:

Doctors around the country should stand up and refuse to administer sex-change surgeries to minors, neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson told the Daily Caller in an exclusive interview.

The Biden administration and Democrats, including President Joe Biden, have advocated for children to receive irreversible sex-change treatments, which they describe as "gender affirming care." Many hospitals and states across the country support the treatments, including puberty blockers, chemical castration and the removal of healthy sex tissue, while others have made moves to set restrictions for minors.

"If you were working at a hospital and your hospital approached you and asked you to perform sex-change treatment on a minor, what would you do?" the Caller asked Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
