HSBC to end funding for new oil and gas fields

HSBC has announced it will stop financing new oil and gas fields, as part of its efforts to drive down global greenhouse gas emissions. Environment groups said the move sends "a strong signal" to fossil fuel giants that investment is waning.

Europe's largest bank said it made the decision after receiving advice from international energy experts. It comes following previous criticism of HSBC for funding oil and gas projects despite its green pledges.

Jeanne Martin, head of the banking programme at ShareAction, a charity that campaigns for reducing investment for fossil fuels like oil and gas, said:
"HSBC's announcement sends a strong signal to fossil fuel giants and governments that banks' appetite for financing new oil and gas fields is diminishing."
The charity called on other banks to follow suit - saying this move sets a "a new minimum level of ambition" for the sector.

In 2020, HSBC made a pledge to be "net zero" - which means not adding to greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere - and investing and loaning up to $1 trillion (£806bn) in green projects.

However, the bank came under criticism earlier this year when it was revealed it had invested an estimated $8.7bn (£6.4bn) into new oil and gas in 2021, according to ShareAction.

California businesses continue to relocate to Texas

austin texas
Austin, Texas
Californians who relocate to Texas will pay roughly one third less in taxes, according to a Tax Foundation analysis.

The exodus of companies from California continues, with many relocating to Texas, according to a tally kept by the California Policy Center. According to its California Book of Exoduses, 183 companies have left California since 2005, citing the state's ever-expanding regulatory and taxation climate.

Since Gov. Gavin Newsom took office in 2019, companies have increasingly left California, and every year, more are relocating to Texas.

In 2019, 11 of 22 companies exiting California relocated to Texas; 19 out of 37 in 2020 and 26 out of 49 in 2021, according to the report. The first 10 months of 2022 was no different when nine out of 32 companies left California to relocate to Texas and another downsized, offering to relocate its employees to Houston.

Comment: What isn't mentioned here, but may be a factor in the California exodus, is that the social and political environment is leading to knock-on effects in California cities that are making them rather unsafe.

A Michigan woman was hit with felony charges this week for her role in an elaborate catfishing scheme that targeted her own daughter, which she later tried to blame on other teens.

Kendra Gail Licari, 42, of Mt. Pleasant, was arrested and charged Monday with two counts of stalking a minor, two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and one count of obstruction of justice, The Morning Sun reported.

The case against Licari is the culmination of a year-long investigation that started with a Dec. 2021 complaint to Beal City Schools that Licari's daughter and her then-boyfriend were being cyberbullied.

Alberta seizes power from 'hostile' federal government's gun grab

Attorney General Tyler Shandro
Alberta seizes power from 'hostile federal government'
Alberta Attorney General Tyler Shandro issued a stern notice to the Trudeau Liberals, announcing the province is seizing back constitutional power from the feds to protect legal gun-owners from being persecuted under Bill C-21.

"Albertans have had enough. So today we are taking action," Shandro said.

"First, as Alberta's attorney general, I have directed that the Alberta crown prosecution service takeover the handling of charges involving the Firearms Act starting January 1st 2023."

He said as things currently stand, the federal government handles these matters.

Shandro's announcement on Thursday effectively protects legal gun owners from suddenly becoming criminals if Bill C-21 comes into force.

Shandro said he sent a letter to the federal minister of justice to let him know of the shift of jurisdictional duties.

The woke war on truth

dictionary

Now even the dictionary is lying to us. The Cambridge Dictionary has updated its definition of the word woman to include men. A woman is now any adult 'who lives and identifies as female' even if they had a 'different sex at birth'. That is, even if they're blokes. Even if they sport a pair of testicles. Even if they're one of those human beings we've referred to as men for millenia.

According to the literal dictionary, the book that's meant to explain clearly and accurately what words mean, the word woman can include those people, too. And just like that, with the swipe of a lexicographer's pen, a word that has existed in one form or another for the entirety of human civilisation, for the express purpose of referring to an adult human female, is hollowed out, rendered meaningless, abolished, essentially.

They've done the same for man. You thought a man was an adult human male, a boy who has reached maturity? Think again. Sure, the word man refers to adult human males, the Cambridge Dictionary graciously admits, but it also refers to anyone who 'lives and identifies as male though they may have been said to have a different sex at birth'. In short, man means man but also woman, when a woman says she's a man. What next, Cambridge? War means war except when it means peace?

This new climate change rule is extremely Orwellian

surveillance tyrrany
Remember when people were called "conspiracy theorists" for warning that climate lockdowns would be the next step?

Well, just have a look at this new extremely draconian rule in Britain that sounds like something straight out of 1984.

They will be dividing the city of Oxford into six different zones, and people will only be given a limited number of times that they will be allowed to cross between the zones in their car.

They will monitor you.

All residents will be forced to register their car with the council. Number plate recognition cameras set up in the city will MONITOR how many times you leave your zone.

In fact, private cars will be banned altogether from crossing between the zones unless you buy a permit which will allow you a maximum of 100 crossings per year! Oh, how generous.

Epstein victim says she watched, has copies of blackmail tapes

Ransome
Among the documents made public is a photo of Ransome taken on Epstein's private Caribbean island, Little St James. She says in the deposition: 'That was me when I was naked, actually, and I had a towel around me. So I think I had just had a massage by Jeffrey because I was naked underneath the towel'
One of Jeffrey Epstein's victims has claimed that he did make sex tapes of his wealthy friends - and not only has she seen them, she's made copies.

And Sarah Ransome's newly released deposition has rekindled allegations that top attorney Alan Dershowitz was involved in the abuse of underage girls.

Ransome claimed in the deposition taken as part of a lawsuit that Virginia Giuffre filed against Epstein's one-time girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell that she has seen footage of two of Epstein's associates having sex with a female victim.

And she claims that she had been forced into a threesome with Dershowitz and an unidentified woman.

Dershowitz denies any abuse. He told the Daily Beast: 'Let me be very clear — I have had sex with one woman since the day I met my wife.

'And during the entire relevant period of time, I never had any contact with Ransome. I've never had any contact with anyone else. And the stories are all made up.'

Ransome goes on to claim that footage she saw will 'haunt me for the rest of my life' and that the faces of the two men were clearly visible. She does not identify those men.

Ransome even claims to have copies which she has stored at several secure locations around Europe and says she fears retaliation by Epstein even though he is dead.

The bombshell claim gives new insight into the long-held theory that Epstein blackmailed his wealthy male friends with secretly recorded videos of them having sex with underage girls he provided.

Comment: Meanwhile, January 6th "insurrectionists" are still in prison, while not a single perp in the Epstein case has even been made public, let alone prosecuted. Even in death, Epstein's blackmail tapes seem to be doing their job just fine!

Twitter suspends CNN, NYT, WaPo journalists, Elon Musk alleges they're banned for 'doxxing' his family

twitter elon musk
There was utter commotion on Twitter after it was discovered that prominent media critics of its owner Elon Musk were simultaneously banned from the platform without explanation.

Among those whose accounts were permanently suspended include CNN correspondent Donie O'Sullivan, New York Times technology reporter Ryan Mac, Washington Post reporter Drew Harwell, The Intercept journalist Micah Lee, VOA correspondent Steve Herman, Mashable writer Matt Binder, former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann and former Vox journalist Aaron Rupar.

Additionally, the Twitter account belonging to the social media rival Mastodon, which served as a safe haven for liberals who initially fled Twitter following Musk's takeover (many made their way back to Twitter).

Musk, who described himself as being a free-speech absolutist, received backlash for the purge of his critics, many calling for him to explain why those accounts were suspended.

Comment: Mainstream journalists and news outlets are all up in a tizzy now, but where were they for the past 5 years or more when anyone who would run afoul of some disgruntled leftie could be permanently banned without warning, explanation, or recourse? Musk's 7-day suspension is a soft pat on the hand by comparison.

The Opression Olympics: 'Disability culture' and the allure of victimhood

disability disable graphic other abled
The "Oppression Olympics" - the victimization hierarchy in which more extreme victimhood equals higher social status - is an odd outgrowth of the wider helicopter-mom, "everybody-gets-a-trophy," "Nerf-the-world" culture that saturated everything circa the 90s. It proliferated from there under the guises of "tolerance" and "equity."

In the last few years, the unofficial Twitter-based Olympics commission introduced a new category of oppression: disability.

One might flippantly assume that nature or fate - a bad genetic role of the dice or an unfortunate accident - might be to blame for disability. But it's actually "ablest" society, according to the "disability community."

Society, according to disability culture, is designed to weed out the disabled and exclude them from participation. The challenges that disabled people face aren't due to their disabilities per se; they're due to society's failure to properly accommodate them.

Comment: In the face of 'inclusive culture', this is an unpopular view. But one wonders if those who bear their infirmities with dignity, and define themselves as more than their limitations, would agree?
