Two suspected drug traffickers have been killed during a shootout with U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents off the coast of Puerto Rico, officials say.

Jeffrey Quiñones, spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, told the Associated Press that the incident happened early Sunday when federal agents detected a suspicious boat at sea and a chase ensued.

The chase ended when the suspected drug traffickers shot at the federal agents, who returned fire, Quiñones said.

The mayor of New York traveled to the Mexican border city of El Paso on Sunday and declared that "there is no room in New York" for busloads of migrants being sent to America's most populous city.

Eric Adams, a Democrat, was also critical of the administration of Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden, saying "now is the time for the national government to do its job" about the immigrant crisis at America's southern border.

The visit of a New York mayor to a southern border city about the issue of immigrants is unprecedented.

A Loudoun County father, whose arrest at a June 2021 school board meeting was used by the Biden administration to justify a politicized attack on concerned parents, was found not guilty of trespassing on Wednesday.

Law enforcement arrested Jon Tigges at a Loudoun school board meeting on June 22, 2021, after he tried expressing concerns about the school district's "moral decay." A Virginia district judge found Tigges guilty in October of 2021. Loudoun Circuit Judge Douglas Fleming Jr., however, cleared Tigges of any wrongdoing.

Fleming determined that Tigges not only had a First Amendment right to attend the heated meeting but also that the superintendent who shut down the official gathering last summer had no right to declare it an "unlawful assembly."

Melania Podoliak wants the entire nation "wiped off the face of the Earth".

Ukrainian blogger Melania Podoliak, a prominent guest on Western news channels, has demanded that Russia and its people be "wiped off the face of the earth." Podoliak issued her call for genocide on Saturday after her own country's air defense supposedly caused a Russian missile to hit an apartment block.

"It's absolutely fair for me to wish for all Russians and Russia to be wiped off the face of the Earth," Podoliak tweeted. "It's not hate speech, it's not horrible of me, it's just FAIR."

Almost three years since the coronavirus pandemic took hold, CNN medical analyst and Washington Post columnist Dr. Leana Wen has admitted the medical community is 'overcounting' the number of 'COVID deaths and hospitalizations.'

In an opinion piece entitled: 'We are overcounting COVID deaths and hospitalizations. That's a problem,' Wen cites sources that claim that most 'patients diagnosed with COVID are actually in the hospital for some other illness.'

Wen begins: 'According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States is experiencing around 400 COVID deaths every day. At that rate, there would be nearly 150,000 deaths a year. But are these Americans dying from COVID or with COVID?'

Ukrainian forces in the Russian city of Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut by Kiev), are facing "an often desperate, regularly fatal" situation, according to British newspaper The Times. Monday's claim comes as Kiev officials have been downplaying advances made by Russian troops last week.

At the weekend, Moscow claimed it had fully seized the town of Soledar, located ten kilometers northeast of Artyomovsk. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar claimed on Sunday that fighting for the town was actually ongoing, and warned against publishing what she called "unsanctioned" information about the situation on the ground.

A Metropolitan police officer has been revealed as a serial rapist who committed more than 71 serious sexual offences, despite the force being told of repeated allegations over two decades that he was a threat to women.

PC David Carrick, an armed officer in the parliamentary and diplomatic protection command, admitted on Monday to 49 counts - some detailing multiple offences, against 12 women.

Police and prosecutors say he exploited his position as a Met officer to lure women, then terrorise them into staying silent about his sexual attacks and degradation of them.

More than six dozen Illinois sheriffs have vowed to defy a gun-control law signed by Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker that bans semiautomatic rifles.

Edwards County Sheriff Darby Boewe said in a Facebook post:
"Part of my duties that I accepted upon being sworn into office was to protect the rights provided to all of us, in the Constitution. One of those rights enumerated is the right of the people to KEEP and BEAR ARMS provided under the 2nd Amendment. The right to keep and bear arms for defense of life, liberty and property is regarded as an inalienable right by the people."
Boewe is one of at least 74 sheriff offices that have posted statements in opposition of the law, according to ABC News.

The Illinois Senate passed its version of the "Protect Illinois Communities Act" last Monday. The bill bans assault weapons and high-capacity magazines from being manufactured or sold in the state. Pritzker signed the bill into law last Tuesday, banning the manufacturing and sale of types of semiautomatic rifles and pistols, .50-caliber guns, as well as attachments that can increase a gun's fire rate.

Comment: It takes only one state foregoing the right to bear arms to trigger a national domino effect.
According to Fox News: In total, the bill would ban the future sale of nearly 100 different kinds of semi-automatic pistols, shotguns and rifles, which the legislation defines as "assault weapons." The National Rifle Association and other Second Amendment advocates say the legislation bans many commonly-owned rifles and goes beyond previous attempts to outlaw certain firearms.

Republican lawmakers were opposed to the bill, but were overwhelmingly outnumbered in the 34-20 vote Monday. State Sen. Darren Bailey, a former GOP candidate for governor, predicted the Illinois Supreme Court would find the measure unconstitutional and said he and "millions of other gun owners in this state will not comply."

The Protect Illinois Communities Act must go back to the state House for reconciliation before it is sent to Gov. Pritzker's desk.

The border crisis is jeopardizing the nation's food security as migrants trespass through farmland, contaminating crops, two Arizona farmers with fields near the southern border told Fox News.

"There's obviously a food safety concern because our fields are monitored and audited and tested for different pathogens," Pasquinelli Produce Company President Alex Muller told Fox News. "If there's somebody that walks into our field and then we don't know about why we put up flags and kind of mark it out and we don't harvest that."

"That hits the bottom line," Muller said. "It's not sustainable. It's not good for the country."
