Abdeslam is currently in detention in the town of Fleury-Mérogis, northern France. His two high-profile lawyers, Belgian Sven Mary and Frenchman Frank Berton, informed their client on October 6 that they would no longer work with him, French media reported.
"We both decided to give up the defence of Salah Abdeslam," lawyer Frank Berton said in an interview to BFM TV.
Armed suicide bombers have attacked a mosque in the Afghan capital and may be holding hostages, the US Embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The US Embassy in Kabul has received reports that several heavily armed suicide bombers entered Karte Sakhi Mosque (PD-3) and may have opened fire on parishioners," the statement said.
Comment: Attacking a mosque you say? Curious.
Comment: Fourteen dead and 36 wounded at last count. The mosque was densely packed when the attack occurred, and initial reports anywhere from 1 to 8 attackers. The Afghan interior ministry now says there was only one attacker, and police say he was dressed in a police uniform and suicide vest. He initially shot a policeman with a handgun, then started randomly shooting at worshipers with an AK-74 (video from outside the mosque has the sound of gunfire). No word as yet on the fate of the attacker. The Taliban explicitly denied responsibility for the attack.
The latest settlement was for $200,000, paid to John Reyes after Pfeifer tasered, pepper sprayed, and beat him with a flashlight for no reason outside of a Starbucks last September.
Federal court documents dismissing the case were filed Tuesday without any admission of wrongdoing by Pfeifer or the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, according to the Sacramento Bee.
"It is disappointing and almost unbelievable that the Sheriff's Department continues to maintain that Pfeifer did nothing wrong," said Reyes' attorney, Stewart Katz. "The department is clearly incapable of honestly evaluating the conduct of its personnel.
"As for Mr. Reyes, the proceeds of the settlement allowed him to clear his family support obligations and buy some property and a home, as opposed to being homeless on the streets of Carmichael. That part of it gives me an enormous sense of satisfaction."
In all three lawsuits, Pfeifer was accused of beating suspects with his flashlight. Two of these beating were captured on video.
Mickey Donohue, 49, was brutally beaten by Pfeifer after a short car chase. That incident was caught on dashcam.

Palestinian protesters drag a burning tyre during clashes with Israeli troops
On Sunday, a Palestinian killed an Israeli pedestrian and a police officer in a drive-by shooting near the national police headquarters in Jerusalem before being fatally shot himself by police.
As the deadly wave of violence between Palestinians and Israelis shows no sign of abating, despite a drop in incidents from a high point last autumn, Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem Meir Turgeman called for harsher measures against Palestinians.
"The people in East Jerusalem want to kill us and destroy us. Why do we need to give them a new chance every day?" Turgeman told Radio Jerusalem in an interview.
"Each time we lived in false hope that these people if we would help them, would change their animal behavior, but it turns out that nothing helps," the politician said.
Comment: Animalistic behavior breeds animalistic behavior. Turgeman, like practically all Israeli politicians, is simply following the Hasbara playbook: start the story in the middle, ignore the racist, apartheid, animalistic, genocidal behavior of the IDF and the Israeli government, and present the Palestinian response as completely irrational and void of any actual motive. There's a reason Palestinians resort to violence: it is the last resort of a people oppressed, and treated like animals.
Artificial intelligence (AI) such as driverless cars and supercomputers that can help doctors with medical diagnoses will soon be the norm, the Science Technology Committee says, but the government's role in preparing for the change is "lacking."
"Science fiction is slowly becoming science fact, and robotics and AI look destined to play an increasing role in our lives over the coming decades," said Tania Mathias, the Tory acting chairwoman of the committee.
"It is too soon to set down sector-wide regulations for this nascent field but it is vital that careful scrutiny of the ethical, legal and societal ramifications of artificially intelligent systems begins now."
The committee warned the government does not have a strategy in place for developing new skills to help workers succeed in a world with greater reliance on AI.

Detective Superintendent John Macdonald, from Scotland Yard's Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, says "any child is vulnerable" to online predators, who target victims by showering them with compliments then quickly resorting to threats if they don't comply.
"Before the internet was mainstream, it was dangerous for an offender to try and target a child because they would have to have that physical face-to-face contact, whereas now all they've got to do is sit in the comfort of their own home and do it relatively safely," Macdonald told the Press Association.
"They've got access to any kid."
Comment: Children don't understand the dangers because of their increased exposure to sexual imagery at early ages, which literally teaches them to be prey for pedophiles. Many have access to pornography at a very young and impressionable age, further pressuring them to live up to unrealistic interpretations of sex. Not only are they being targeted online, but face out of control sexual harassment in schools.
Internet has become a 'pedophile playground': Sexual predators targeting increasing number of children online
If you are living paycheck to paycheck, you live under the constant threat of your life being totally turned upside down if that paycheck ever goes away. During the last crisis, millions of Americans lost their jobs very rapidly, and because so many of them were living paycheck to paycheck all of a sudden large numbers of people couldn't pay their mortgages. As a result, multitudes of American families went through the extremely painful process of foreclosure.
Unfortunately, it appears that we have not learned anything from the last go around. According to the brand new survey that I mentioned above, 69 percent of all Americans have less than $1,000 in savings...

Haitians load supplies delivered by a Marines helicopter after Hurricane Matthew in Les Anglais, Haiti, October 11, 2016.
As of Tuesday, Haiti's death toll reached at least 1,000 people as a result of being hit by Hurricane Matthew, but the worst could be yet to come, according to some experts. The United Nations has appealed for $120 million for three months of emergency funding, $70 million of which would go to water, sanitation and medical efforts.
On Tuesday, Haiti's interim president Jocelerme Privert confirmed the need for emergency, calling the loss "amazing," and adding, "the concern is if we don't take action now for the longer impact ... three to four months when the foods stop coming we are going to have a real famine."
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters on Monday that "some towns and villages have been almost wiped off the map. Crops and food reserves have been destroyed."
Comment: Great. So now between the Clinton Foundation's financial rape of Haiti and the two disasters that have befallen this country, the WHO is planning to to further injure these people with what is, in all probability, a dangerous cholera vaccine.
All states are cults: religions. And like all religions, states have sacraments, including holy rituals. The national anthem is one of the holy ritual sacraments of the cult of the American State. Those fully initiated and indoctrinated in that cult have been programmed to go into attack mode when divergent cult members (heretics) fail to observe such sacraments, like the national anthem or the pledge of allegiance to the holy pole cloth. Such peer pressure is how cults maintain their numbers.
Voting is another one of those sacramental rituals. As with the national anthem and pledge of allegiance, true believers are aghast when you advocate abstention from voting. School, which is our chief initiation into the State cult, thoroughly and universally indoctrinates its initiates into the sacrament of voting and democracy. We've all been brainwashed from the time we were tiny children into the holy myth of democracy: that democracy is what makes us special, what makes America exceptional; that patriots suffered and died for democracy, from the Suffragettes to the Civil Rights movement, from the Revolution to the Civil War to World War II to the War on Terror; that through voting we are empowered to fight for what's right, to make our country, our very lives, better. You can see how important this sacrament is to the State cult from all of the voting propaganda pushed by the government and the establishment media.
Of the total 1,251 requests for a minor to be tried as an adult in New Jersey from July 1, 2011 to May 19, 2016, 692 of those requests were granted by judges. Those minors were 87.4 percent black or Hispanic, WNYC reported in a new series, 'Kids in Prison.'
"There are obvious disparities and gross disparities in the exercise of discretion to seek a waiver," Laura Cohen, director of the Criminal and Youth Justice Clinic at Rutgers Law School, told WNYC.
According to a 2011 report by the US Department of Justice National Institute for Corrections, black youth constitute about two-thirds of minors in the adult criminal justice system and are about nine times more likely than white youth to receive adult prison sentences.
Comment: It seems that the prison system in the US has to change. The impetus behind transferring kids to the adult system is depicted as a service to public safety, but research has shown the exact opposite. Kids who are placed in the adult system are 34% more likely to re-offend than their counterparts in the juvenile system. This practice places youth at extreme jeopardy for rape, psychological harm, suicide - especially related to practices of solitary confinement, limited exercise, lack of educational programs, institutions inaccessible by family due to cost and distance, substance abuse and physical, emotional, mental deprivation.

Comment: There would seem to be a few possibilities for Abdeslam's silence here: 1.) He is loyal to his terrorist buddies 2.) He knows that the operation was state-sponsored, and also knows that if he talks, he's dead 3.) He's a mind-controlled patsy programmed not to say anything but the few hints that suggest his involvement 4.) Some combination of the above.
