A newly signed law signed by California Gov. Jerry Brown last week states that health care workers who choose not to address transgender patients by their preferred pronouns could face fines or jail time.

The bill, which was signed into law Wednesday, is designed to protect transgender and LGBT individuals in hospitals, assisted living facilities, long-term care facilities, and retirement homes from discrimination and ensure their needs are met, such as letting them use the bathroom of their preferred gender.

"It shall be unlawful for a long-term care facility or facility staff to take any of the following actions wholly or partially on the basis of a person's actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status," the bill reads.

The law states that health care workers who "willfully and repeatedly" fail to address transgender people by their "preferred name or pronouns" if they were "clearly informed of the preferred name or pronouns" would be in violation of the law.

Hollywood's sudden exposure of Weinstein: Why now?

Weinstein

  • Suddenly exposing Weinstein after decades of cover-ups seems absurd
  • Weinstein deployed the same tactic as De Niro when ousted
  • What happened to Weinstein and De Niro's vaccine safety documentary?
The 15th annual Tribeca Film Festival was one to remember. It will long be remembered as the one whereas Tribeca co-founder and Hollywood legend, Robert De Niro, was condemned for attempting to show Andrew Wakefield's vaccine safety documentary, Vaxxed. Filmmakers threatened to remove their films from Tribeca's lineup if De Niro didn't comply with the removal of the screening. And he most certainly complied.

Comment: While Weinstein's actions are inexcusable, the question of why this information comes out now may be something to consider. DeNiro vaccine coverage:

Healing the past: 84% of Russian students want a public debate about the Red Terror

They want to know what happened and what that means for today's Russia

Recently, a fascinating trend in Russian society has emerged: a peaking, nation-wide interest in history, especially post-Revolution history and, even more so, the (in)famous Stalin years.

This year, on the centennial of the Russian Revolution of 1917, Russians are finally ready to grapple with the countless ghosts of the victims of Soviet purges and repressions: the Christians, the liberals, the peasants, the nobility, the foreigners, and so many other random "counterrevolutionaries."

This is the first large organized social attempt to address the brutal historical reality. Russians are discussing, debating, organizing exhibitions, building memorials and walls of tears for the victims. RGRU, the official Russian government publication of historical documents has created an official page called "reconciliation" for materials and news related to the memorialization and discussion of the Revolution and the Red Terror.

NYPD says Harvey Weinstein evidence was presented to Manhattan DA

It appears that the first casualty of the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal, may be none other than the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr.

According to an explosive new article published by the New Yorker on Tuesday, Vance had evidence of Weinstein's sexually predatory behavior toward a woman, but didn't pursue the case. The story describes how model and former Miss Italy contestant Ambra Battilana Gutierrez accepted a meeting with Weinstein in March 2015. During the meeting, she told New Yorker that Weinstein groped her breasts and put his hands up her skirt.

After the encounter, Gutierrez went to the New York Police Department, which counseled her to wear a wire and meet with Weinstein the next day at his hotel. The New Yorker published the recorded audio of their exchange.

A Senate campaign video ad by Republican Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn is being blocked by Twitter, due to an "inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction." The pro-life candidate, however, may benefit from the takedown.

The social media giant is reportedly blocking any paid promotion of a video announcing Rep. Blackburn's 2018 candidacy for a US Senate seat in Tennessee, which fellow Republican Senator Bob Corker is leaving vacant when he retires next year.

The Associated Press reported Monday that Twitter told Blackburn campaign vendors that her claim to have "stopped the sale of baby body parts" by Planned Parenthood was "deemed an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction" and therefore would be blocked.

The women's health organization and abortion provider came under scrutiny in 2015 after pro-life activists released undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing fetal tissue transactions to researchers, a legal practice as long as no profit is received, according to AP.

Absolutely disgusting: World's first sex doll brothel is being bombarded with requests for paedophile and rape sessions by twisted perverts

sex doll
The world's first sex doll brothel has been bombarded with sick requests from perverts who want to act out rape fantasies and even paedophile abuse.

Owner Sergi Prieto boasts he "caters for all" preferences but he has been forced to turn some punters away because of their disturbing desires.

Sergi co-founded the Lumidolls bordello, which opened in Barcelona earlier this year offering to fulfill men's "wildest fantasies" with lifelike sex dolls from £68 a session.

He told the Daily Star Online "business is booming" as tourists flock there from all over the world - but some vile requests have got out of hand.

Sergi, 72, said: "Some customers prefer the service because they have a rape fantasy.

"Obviously we don't want to promote this kind of activity."

French police have charged two radicalized prison inmates with plotting terrorist attacks - within days of their scheduled release.

In the first such case in the history of French anti-terrorism the men, who were radicalized behind bars while serving time for non-terrorist crimes, are due to be released from Fresnes prison, just south of Paris, next week.

French TV news station LCI report that the men had plotted attacks against numerous targets including prison guards while they were in prison and police officers at a police station after they were released.

French intelligence services had been watching the two men for several months.

Cameroonian Charles-Henri M. was reportedly the mastermind behind the potential attacks. The 28 year old was an Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) sympathizer. His accomplice was 22-year-old Frenchman Maxime O, who is also a radical Islamist.

When Turkey was still attempting to join the EU, it often tried to adjust its legislation in accordance with expectations and wishes of Brussels. This is, however, no longer the case.

Now it is even expected that the controversial bill permitting child marriages will soon be legalized.

According to the current Turkish laws, marriages must first be approved by the competent civil authorities. Only then a religious blessing may be sought. But this is about to change.

Balliol, one of the most prestigious colleges at Oxford University, has banned the Christian Union (CU) from recruiting students at the first-year freshers' fair, sparking a nationwide controversy.

Hubert Au, President of the JCR, the college student union, told Christian Union representatives that their presence at the fair could cause "potential for harm to freshers who are already struggling to feel welcome in Oxford."

"Christianity's influence on many marginalised communities has been damaging in its methods of conversion and rules of practice, and is still used in many places as an excuse for homophobia and certain forms of neo-colonialism," wrote Au, whose missive was passed on to and published by university newspaper Cherwell.
