Unhinged: Chicago Mayor Lightfoot insults Italians in epic, obscene rant

A former Chicago Park District Attorney is seeking damages from Mayor Lori Lightfoot after an obscene, insulting rant against the attorney and the Chicago Italian-American community came to light.

The Park District was responsible for the statue of Christopher Columbus in Arrigo Park that Lightfoot had ordered removed during protests in 2020. They were negotiating with the Joint Civic Committee of Italian-Americans to have the Columbus statue displayed during the annual Columbus Day parade. The statue wasn't displayed in the Chicago parade but did make an appearance at a suburban event.

Ron Onesti, president of that Italian-American group, was in on the negotiations along with two park district attorneys — former deputy general counsel George Smyrniotis and park district general counsel Timothy King.

Lightfoot was brought into the call. "You d-ks, what the f-k were you thinking?" Lightfoot is quoted as saying in the lawsuit.

Comment: The above story is probably the least of Lightfoot's displays; egregiously bad policies, ideologically-possessed political maneuvers, incompetence, and piss poor leadership of Chicago is her MO. And, oh boy, what a shit list it is:

Food Crisis: EU expects shortages, S. Korea feed producers to declare Force Majeur

food crisis
The food crisis is here. The EU's agricultural ministers held an emergency meeting and are set to activate a "Food Crisis Contingency Mechanism" in anticipation of the shortages resulting from the blocked 40% of global wheat exports that are no longer flowing from Ukraine/Russia.

S. Korea's animal feed producers are preparing to declare force majeur, unable to produce feed without the 300,000 metric tons they'd expected from Ukraine now stuck in the Black Sea.

Nations are banning exports to cling to what food stocks they DO have. Things are escalating quickly in the food crisis - and all of this was pre-scripted in the 2015 Food Chain Reaction Game, and we are now walking through that script.

First Jan. 6 rioter convicted of seditious conspiracy

Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol
© P Photo/John Minchillo, FileViolent protesters, loyal to President Donald Trump, storm the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in Washington in this file photo. The father of an inmate being held on charges from the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot said his son can't get a fair trial in the District of Columbia and wants his case heard in Pennsylvania or New York.
An Alabama man affiliated with the far-right Oath Keepers militia group pleaded guilty Wednesday to seditious conspiracy for his actions leading up and through the Jan. 6 riot, marking the first person involved in the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol to be convicted of the rarely used charge.

The sentencing guideline range for Joshua A. James, who also pleaded guilty to a charge of obstruction of an official proceeding, was estimated to be 7 to nine years in prison.

The 34-year-old from Arab, Alabama, acknowledged getting into a physical altercation with a police officer while inside the Capitol and participating in a plan to use force to hinder or delay the transfer of presidential power. James also agreed to cooperate with authorities investigating the riot, including testifying before a grand jury.

Authorities say James and others affiliated with the group rode golf carts to the Capitol, moved through the crowd in a military-style "stack" formation and went into the building.

James was accused of pushing past officers who tried to stop rioters from moving toward the Rotunda, joining others who confronted officers and profanely proclaiming the building was his. A week before the riot, James said in an encrypted chat that he believed teams within the militia group were adequately armed, prosecutors said in court records.

Comment: Given what we now know about how engineered the Jan 6 riots were (both on the ground, through the media and by the Democrats) one wonders how many of the charges mentioned above are, in fact, actually based on truth.

What if San Francisco does not recover?

San Francisco
San Francisco looks worse now than I've ever seen it. Like any major city, San Francisco had bad areas before 2020 - those rough areas you knew to avoid - but you could go anywhere else, basically unmolested. Today is something entirely different.

The streets are dirty. Homeless encampments, trash, and excrement can be found all over. Car break-ins are so frequent that it has basically become a non-government-imposed tax for people who come here. Of course, some areas are much worse than others, but almost all areas of the city suffer from this decay, and it is appalling.

Every year, the city seems to find new ways to dig deeper and deeper toward ruin. But what happens to San Francisco if it really does not recover? What if the financial woes, homeless encampments, rising crime, and dwindling police force are the new normal for this once great city?

Whether or not politicians want to admit it, San Francisco is in a very precarious situation. Big Tech is gone, and it's not coming back. Of course, some companies will keep a building here or there, but tech has realized they can work anywhere. Why would anyone want to put up with onerous San Francisco regulations and taxes? Once you pay this high cost of entry, you still must deal with squalid conditions just to get to work. Instead, why not stay in your pajamas with a nice shirt or top on and fire up the Wi-Fi at home?

Comment: Is it any wonder that many have been leaving Democratically-run cities like San Francisco in droves - which is what you get when you run a city where nearly all its economic and cultural polices lean hard-woke-left and nearly corrupt to the core?

The media isn't finished smearing Canada's truckers

truckers
It has been almost one week since the trucks left Ottawa and Justin Trudeau's fake emergency concluded, but the media isn't finished trying to smear the Canadians that peacefully protested Justin Trudeau's mandates.

This week. the media highlighted anti-trucker voices to mislead Canadians into thinking the convoy was an "occupation," journalists obsess over an outspoken character to smear the entire movement and legacy media elites call the protesters "anti-social yobs" and "half-wits."

It's Fake News Friday on the Candice Malcolm Show, and Candice is joined by True North producer Harrison Faulkner to discuss the worst examples on fake news this week.

Comment: Setting aside the 'Putin invasion' comments, they are on point about the media shamelessly smearing the truckers. See also:

Too bad nothing ever happens - final thoughts on act one of the trucker protest

truckers
It seems like only last week that people around the world were riveted by the story of the Canadian truckers: their spontaneous movement and its draconian suppression by the Trudeau government.1 In fact, come to think of it, it was last week.

Now almost everyone is obsessed with Russia's Ukrainian invasion. And I won't lie, I have opinions on that topic too, but the idea of this blog was never that it should be intellectually blown about by the fickle winds of momentary passions. It certainly is fascinating how the lines of division within the managerial class over the trucker inspired movement radically reconfigured into entirely different divisions over the Ukraine affair. But I'm going to leave that topic aside for now, reserving the option to take it up in the future if I see an opportunity to leverage its lessons for the themes of this substack. I'm not quite ready to leave behind the truckers though.

For those following recent posts, the trucker-inspired movement provided a fascinating test case for the kind of class analysis that informs much of the concern of this substack. And, as at least the first act of this drama concluded last week (whether it's a one act play or not remains to be seen), there was one final lesson to be drawn from that first act relevant to the themes we address here. The black pilled side of my analysis here is that there are no magical happy endings in political life. The people are never redeemed and granted a world of happiness, safety and prosperity. There's always a ruling class; they always have their own interests; and given enough time they'll get nasty about it. The only hope of maintaining some space of freedom lies in a popular movement that provides appropriate and sufficient incentives for either another class (e.g., the bourgeoisie) or more likely a rebel faction of the ruling class (e.g., a surplus elite of the managerial class) to provide the populist insurgency the strategic, logistic and theoretical leadership it needs to throw out the corrupt and/or sclerotic ruling faction of the ruling class. That's why this substack is called "The circulation of elites."

Bravo: Governor DeSantis tells students to take off their masks: 'It's not doing anything'

DeSantis tells students to take off their masks
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis told students standing behind him at a press conference to take off their masks, calling the masks "Covid theater."

"You do not have to wear those masks. Please take them off. Honestly, it's not doing anything. We've gotta stop with this Covid theater. So if you wanna wear it, fine, but this is ridiculous," he said.

Comment: DeSantis is a part of the now rare breed of sane, strong and level-headed politicians in the US who is willing and quite able to call out the Totalitarian Bullshit many others have succumbed to and are vehemently supporting (until they get their marching orders to reverse course that is).

Deranged former Dutch intelligence officer implies people who don't condemn Putin or the Ukraine 'invasion' should be hanged or executed

Pieter Cobelens
© Screenshot / NPO Op1Former intelligence officer Pieter Cobelens on Dutch politician Thierry Baudet, who is taking a more objective stance on the situation in Ukraine: "In wartime, people were hanged and executed for this sort of thing."
On March 1st, during the Dutch talkshow Op1, former Dutch Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) boss Pieter Cobelens said the following about politician Thierry Baudet who views the situation in Ukraine differently than the US Deep State-idolizing politicians in other parties:
What I find, is that, if we think that Europe is finding itself in a mini-phase of a war, you must consider to adjust certain laws. Many motions have been accepted, for example on wiretapping. They should do the same concerning this matter. At a slightly later stage, we're actually talking about treason rather than fake news. People were hanged and executed for this sort of thing in wartime.
Baudet's political party Forum voor Democratie found his comment appalling and will report this to the police. The party tweeted:
Former boss of the MIVD fantasizes at the table at the NPO about the hanging (execution) of an opposition politician. Gert-Jan Segers, leader of the CU (a government party), nods. That this is possible on public broadcasting is life-threatening. FVD will file a report to the police.
During an interview with the new broadcasting association Ongehoord Nederland, Baudet said about the situation in Ukraine:

Say what? Pat Robertson comes out of retirement to say Putin is fulfilling God's plan - next stop Armageddon in Israel

Pat Robertson
© GETTY IMAGESPat Robertson
Former televangelist Pat Robertson came out of retirement to comment on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin is being "compelled by God" to bring about the "End of Times," prophesied in the Bible.

Robertson made a special appearance on The 700 Club Monday to weigh in on Russia's attack on Ukraine, saying Putin is simply following God's wishes to spark an End of Times battle against Israel. Robertson cited verses from the book of Ezekiel regarding nations coming together to rise up against Israel — saying Russia's invasion is a precursor to that event.

"I think you can say, well, Putin's out of his mind, and yes, maybe so," said Robertson. "But at the same time, he's being compelled by God. He went into Ukraine, but that wasn't his goal. His goal was to move against Israel, ultimately."

The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network claimed that Ukraine is simply a "staging area" for one of the great biblical armies that will gather for Armageddon. Referring to a world map, Robertson pointed to a "choke point" between Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece and why Russia might want to control that point.
