The insane world of intersectional climate change

gay tree
Once upon a time, linking climate change directly back to homosexuality was almost enough to get you sectioned. Remember 10 years ago, during the floods of 2014, when UKIP local councillor David Silvester was widely mocked after writing a letter to then-PM David Cameron, warning that the bad weather of the day was due to Dismal Dave's acting "arrogantly against the Gospel" by planning to legalise gay marriage, thereby angering God Almighty and causing Him to unleash "storms, disease, pestilence and war" upon us all?

Today, the situation is kind of the reverse, and we are now exhorted to propitiate the angry climate-gods after all - otherwise they will punish those homosexuals who walk amongst us with terrible deluges and inundations of a new kind, as shown by the Daily Sceptic reporting last week on a quite pathetic story in the Independent, headlined 'How climate change is hitting vulnerable Indonesian trans sex workers'. As the DS wrote, "Street-walking in a Muslim majority country undoubtedly has perils", but bad weather is not chief amongst them.

Rain of Terror

According to the Independent, the problem was that "the rainy season was lasting longer" and "winds were stronger", causing clients to stay nice and dry at home and use prostitutes there instead. Even worse, 72% of transsexual escorts in the affected region "had increased expenses" when it rained - how much do umbrellas cost in Java these days? Therefore, it was argued, "climate change makes the vulnerable even more vulnerable". But does it really? If you bother to read the whole report beyond its absolutely mental headline, you will see that most of the ladyboys involved actually enjoyed a, um, happy ending.

Senegal's leader calls for review of relations with EU

The President of Senegal,Bassirou Diomaye Faye
The President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye
Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has called for a reassessment of the West African country's relationship with the European Union (EU), saying that the current form of cooperation is complicated.

Faye made the statement at a joint press conference with European Council President Charles Michel in Senegal's capital, Dakar, on Monday night.

He proposed a "renovated partnership" that is "capable of supporting the innovative dynamic" in Senegal-EU relations.

Faye was sworn in as president on April 2 after winning 54.28% of the vote in the African nation's elections last month. His victory over 18 other candidates, including the former government party's candidate, came just days after he was released from jail along with a close associate, Ousmane Sonko, the barred opposition leader he replaced in the election.

Comment: It remains to be seen to what extent the EU supports Senegal. Good on Senegal to want autonomy and to move away from the French post colonial rule, which was mainly to the benefit of France. It is very likely that if the EU is not able to satisfy Senegal, then other countries such as Russia and/or China will be asked.

FTC bans most non-compete clauses, claiming the accounts 'robbed people of their economic liberty'

Employers will be banned from using noncompete contracts to prevent workers from joining rival firms, regulators said today.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted 3-2 to ban the measures which roughly affect one in five workers today.

Historically non-compete measures have been associated with high-level executives at technology and financial companies but are increasingly used to target lower paid workers such as security guards and sandwich-shop employees.

The agreements usually prohibit workers from jumping to a competing company for a prescribed period of time.

A 2021 study by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis found that more than one in 10 workers who earn $20 or less an hour are covered by noncompete agreements.

Dairy cattle moving between states must be tested for the bird flu virus, U.S. agriculture officials said Wednesday as they try to track and control the growing outbreak.

The federal order was announced one day after health officials said they had detected inactivated remnants of the virus, known as Type A H5N1, in samples taken from milk during processing and from store shelves. They stressed that such remnants pose no known risk to people or the milk supply.

"The risk to humans remains low," said Dawn O'Connell of the federal Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response.

The new order, which goes into effect Monday, requires every lactating cow to be tested and post a negative result before moving to a new state. It will help the agency understand how the virus is spreading, said Michael Watson, an administrator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

The Russian Ministry of Economic Development has raised its 2024 forecast for the country's growth, citing domestic consumer and investment demand.

Gross domestic product will expand by 2.8% this year, Economy Minister Maksim Reshetnikov told a government meeting on Tuesday. This compares favorably with the previous forecast of 2.3% GDP for 2024.

"The Russian economy has not only adapted to the new external economic conditions, but has also demonstrated the ability to develop sustainably," the ministry stated.

Child rapist can STAY in UK after arguing being deported would harm his mental health

predator
A child rapist can stay in the UK after arguing being deported would harm his mental health. The fiend, who cannot be named, was jailed for attacking a teenage girl and was to be kicked out in 2014.

But he appealed, claiming he could not be treated for depression or PTSD in his native Eritrea, East Africa.

Last month his appeal was upheld after a doctor witness said he would be more likely to take his life if returned to his home country.

Comment: Seems like most people would be fine with that outcome.

He was also likely to have been punished for evading a military draft by fleeing here as a teenager.

Bird Flu, censorship & 100 day vaccines: 7 predictions for "the next pandemic"

lab testing
Earlier this month the White House published its new "Pandemic Preparedness" targets.

They are far from alone in covering this. Back in March, Sky News was asking: "Next pandemic is around the corner,' expert warns - but would lockdown ever happen again?"

On April 3rd, the Financial Times asked something similar: "The next pandemic is coming. Will we be ready?"

Less than an hour ago, the Daily Mail invited us inside "the world's deadliest cave that could cause the next pandemic".

Just two days ago a professional panic spreader wrote for CNN:
The next pandemic threat demands action now!!!

The student protests for Palestine are awe-inspiring. But we must not get distracted from Gaza.

I cannot help but be moved by the wave of protests taking over college campuses across the country. But the protests aren't the story. Gaza is.

I was glued to my phone yesterday.

It was no different than most of my days over the past seven months. But for perhaps the first time since last October, I wasn't completely overwhelmed with grief and sadness. I was feeling inspired, invigorated, and hopeful.

I was watching videos of students and faculty at my alma mater, NYU, linked arm in arm, as they stood proudly in solidarity with Palestine at the newly established NYU Gaza Solidarity Encampment - which had been set up in the same location where 10 years earlier, I participated as a student in a much smaller protest for Palestine.

The agreement was reached during Qatar-mediated talks, Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova has said.

Russia and Ukraine have agreed to exchange children who have been separated from their families amid the hostilities between the two nations, a senior official involved in the negotiations announced on Wednesday.

The talks were held with Qatar's mediation, Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova told the media. Under the deal, Moscow will take in 19 children and send 29 home to Ukraine, she said.

Speaking to journalists in Doha, the official said the Qatari government was overseeing the lists of children slated for the planned swap. The talks were held in the capital of the Arab nation and amounted to the first in-person negotiation of this kind between Moscow and Kiev, according to Lvova-Belova.

Seven young people have been arrested in counter-terrorism raids across Sydney in response to last week's Sydney church stabbing.

More than 400 members of a joint counter-terrorism team from state and federal police forces began kicking down doors at 13 homes in the city's south-west at about 11.15am on Wednesday.

The sweeping raids were carried out in response to the April 15 attack on Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel at the Assyrian church, Christ The Good Shepherd Church, in Wakeley - which was declared a religiously motivated terror incident.

New South Wales Police said there was no specific threat to public safety and the raids had no connection to Anzac Day commemorations on Thursday.

However, the national terrorism threat level remains at 'possible'.
