John Whitehead: If Americans can't agree to disagree, censorship won't stop until we are ALL silenced

Americans are begging to be censored by continuing to call for their political, religious, or societal adversaries to be silenced. We must agree to disagree before it's too late.
free speech
"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech." ― Benjamin Franklin
What a mess.

As America has become ever more polarized, and those polarized factions have become more militant and less inclined to listen to-or even allow for the existence of-other viewpoints, we are fast becoming a nation of people who just can't get along.

Here's the thing: if Americans don't learn how to get along-at the very least, agreeing to disagree and respecting each other's right to subscribe to beliefs and opinions that may be offensive, hateful, intolerant or merely different-then we're going to soon find that we have no rights whatsoever (to speak, assemble, agree, disagree, protest, opt in, opt out, or forge our own paths as individuals).

The Truth Perspective: The Affirmative Action Brigade: How Identity Politics Is Destroying Western Militaries

woman sniper
Traditionally a male institution, the last decades have seen the rise of policies that push for equal inclusion of women in all areas of military service. But they're not working, for some strange reason. Men still dominate militaries all over the world, including in western democracies. This has led to charges of systemic discrimination, misogyny and toxic masculinity. But no worry, the gender activists have the solution: affirmative action, including special woman-only incentives to attract them into the military.

But will these additional policies work? Or will they only result in a more 'toxic' military atmosphere? Are the ideals of 'diversity, inclusivity, and equity' compatible with the purpose of a military as an effective fighting force, or are they mutually exclusive? Today on the Truth Perspective we look at recent developments of gender politics in the military, with Australia as a case study and ask the question: are such policies making the military a better institution, or just making it weak?

Canadian oil producers suffering steep price declines, reflecting shortage of pipeline capacity

Canada oil drilling
© Larry Macdougal / Global Look Press
Canadian oil producers are once again suffering from a steep discount for their oil, causing the largest spread between Canadian oil and WTI in years.

Western Canada Select (WCS) recently fell below $40 per barrel, dropping to as low as $38 per barrel on Tuesday. That put it roughly $31 per barrel below WTI, the largest discount since 2013.

The sharp decline in WCS prices is a reflection of a shortage of pipeline capacity. Much of the talk about pipeline bottlenecks these days focuses on the Permian basin, and the unfolding slowdown in shale drilling, which could curtail U.S. oil production growth. But Canada's oil industry was contending with an inability to build new pipeline infrastructure long before Texas shale drillers.

However, the problem has grown more acute over the last 12 months. Even as pipeline takeaway capacity hasn't budged, Canadian oil production continues to rise. Output could jump by around 230,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2018, followed by another 265,000-bpd increase in 2019, according to the International Energy Agency.

On Russians, warmongers, election meddling, and when turnabout is fair play

Russian American US flags
I want to offer NEO readers a revelation today. As an American, a human being, or as a geopolitical analyst, I have no problem whatsoever with Russia meddling in the U.S. or any other elections. Even if the allegations are true, my Mamma always told me "turnabout is fair play." And in this, I firmly believe. Here's a "fair play" look at why every decent American should just toughen up on RussiaGate.

First, let me say that I have no indication that ANY Russian official had ANYTHING to do with the American elections other than rooting for this politician as opposed to another. Now that this is settled, I want to present a series of proofs that the United States has meddled in just about every election on Earth. Let's start with Moldova in 2005.

Huffy Dem candidate Ocasio-Cortez refuses 'catcalling' debate offer from Ben Shapiro

Ben Shapiro and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has declined Ben Shapiro's challenge to debate him for $10,000, likening the conservative host's offer to catcalling.

"Just like catcalling, I don't owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Thursday. "And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one."

Comment: If Ocasio-Cortez had real confidence in the soundness of her ideology, she would welcome Shapiro's offer. Why turn down free campaign publicity and a possible hefty donation to boot?

Future Darwin award recipients: NYC teens film themselves riding atop subway cars

NYC teens riding subway trains
A trio of New York City daredevils--surely soon to be in the custody of the NYPD--filmed themselves riding atop a series of subway cars as trains barreled through Brooklyn and Queens.

In videos posted to YouTube over the past three weeks, the train surfers are seen running, action movie-style, from car to car.

In a clip posted July 14, the surfers hop onto the roof of a subway car from an overhang at the aboveground Avenue H station in Brooklyn. At one point, the future defendants have to quickly duck down to avoid being decapitated by an overpass.

Comment: Proving once again that the selfie-obsessed will attempt anything for a few moments of notoriety. Looks like these young men could use an introduction to Jordan Peterson.

A boon for Republicans? Pelosi viewed by many as a 'drag' on the Democratic party

nancy pelosi
Most of America is not impressed with sexually perverse or aberrant people. Even though the elitist liberal entertainment media and especially West Coast liberal enclaves would have us believe that everybody thinks this perversity is to be lauded (so we should too), this is not true. However, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is not aware of that.

Perhaps this is a good thing for Republicans.

The SFGate.com website, home of the SFGate news and Chronicle publications of San Francisco, heralded Nancy Pelosi's appearance at a drag queen contest as a significant political event, especially when Mrs. Pelosi, who claims to be Roman Catholic, threw slop all over her faith by both being a judge at this event, and by comparing the success of politicians to that of these men who dress as women and who are often sexually deranged.
After appearing on an episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that politicians could learn a thing or two from drag queens.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter about her appearance on the show Thursday night, Pelosi said, "This idea of people believing in themselves, being themselves, taking pride in themselves, is not just a lesson for politicians but for everyone in the country. And that's why I was so excited and couldn't resist being on the show."

Comment: Pelosi, cocooned in her liberal coastal bubble is completely out of touch with reality. She is one of the many factors driving the #WalkAway movement:

Largest strike in Ryanair's history leaves 400 flights cancelled and thousands of passengers affected

ryanair
More than 70,000 passengers have had their Ryanair flights cancelled today as a result of the biggest strike in the airline's 34 year history.

Pilots across Europe have coordinated a day of industrial action on what is one of the busiest days of the summer.

The airline said that 250 flights into and out of Germany have been cancelled, along with 104 flights serving Belgium, 22 services to and from Sweden, and 20 between Ireland and Britain.

Ryanair has declined to say which specific flights have been grounded, or how many UK departures have been cancelled, but The Independent estimates that up to 100 British flights, and 18,000 passengers, could be affected.

Berlin Schöenefeld, Gothenburg and Stockholm Skavsta have seen the majority of Ryanair services grounded.

Snowflake newspaper Boston Globe wants to organize country's press into war of words against Trump

laptop newspapers
A Boston newspaper is proposing a coordinated editorial response from publications across the U.S. to President Donald Trump's frequent attacks on the news media.

"We are not the enemy of the people," said Marjorie Pritchard, deputy managing editor for the editorial page of The Boston Globe, referring to a characterization of journalists that Trump has used in the past. The president, who contends he has largely been covered unfairly by the press, also employs the term "fake news" often when describing the media.

The Globe has reached out to editorial boards nationwide to write and publish editorials on Aug. 16 denouncing what the newspaper called a "dirty war against the free press."

A Horizon Air Q400 plane, stolen from the Seattle-Tacoma airport Handout.
An audio emerged online of a conversation between a man who hijacked a plane from the Seattle Airport and an air-traffic controller. On the clip the hijacker talks about running low on fuel and asks if he'll get life in jail.

The conversation between the man, addressed as Rich/Richard, and the air-traffic controller right before the Horizon Air Q400 plane crash, was released by Aviation journalist Jon Ostrower on Twitter.
