German police have seized numerous weapons as well as "unknown chemicals" in the house and garage of a man detained on suspicion of planning a "major offense" against the forthcoming G20 meeting in Hamburg.

Local Hamburg police were alerted that a German citizen residing in the northern city of Rostock was preparing a "major offense" against the upcoming G20 summit. Following the tip, police officers raided several houses and a garage in Rostock. Authorities also conducted raids in the northern German towns of Hohenfelde and Bad Doberan.

As a result, police seized a "vast arsenal" of weapons, including throwing knives, baseball bats, knuckles, telescopic batons and even a box with precision slingshots, which "could be used to commit violent crimes," according to a police statement published on the website of Hamburg's local authority.

In the first six months of 2017 the Ukrainian army has reported 115 deaths due to enemy action on its side. This is comparable to 2016 when if sustained 217 killed in battle over twelve months.

Doubtlessly the rebel combat losses are in the similar range. Based on the first six months we are then again looking at some 450 KIA for 2017 from both sides.

Additionally in 2016 the Ukrainian army lost another 256 soldiers outside combat -- mainly due to illnesses (58), weapons accidents (39), murders (30), and a suicide epidemic (63).

The Portuguese military is investigating the theft of a massive arms cache at one of its bases. A Spanish news outlet revealed the extent of the heist, reporting that the thieves got their hands on grenade launchers and a vast quantity of explosives.

Grenades, grenade launchers, 9mm ammo, explosives, and other military equipment disappeared from a Portuguese military base in Tancos, some 100 kilometers northeast of Lisbon, last Wednesday.

The Portuguese Army disclosed that the robbery had taken place the next day, but did not share the details with the public. On Monday, Spanish news outlet, El Espanol released an alleged list of the military equipment stolen.

CNN is being accused of blackmail and coercion after it seemingly threatened to expose the creator of the CNN meme recently shared by US President Donald Trump.

When Trump shared a meme of him wrestling a man with CNN's logo for a head, the news organization accused the president of encouraging "violence against reporters."

Now, CNN has been accused of both threatening and blackmailing the creator of the wrestling meme.

CNN's KFile' discovered the real identity of the Reddit user credited with creating the meme, HanA**holeSolo, and tried to contact him. The meme creator then apologized on Reddit, saying he doesn't advocate violence against the media. According to CNN, he then got in touch with KFile and asked not to be named.

Saturday sees the tenth anniversary of the smoking ban in England. A curse or a blessing depending on your point of view, July 1st 2007 was - for me - the day when the paternalism of the 'public health' lobby became overtly coercive.

I was a smoker in those days, but despite quitting five years ago I still loathe this vindictive piece of legislation as much as ever. Perhaps it's because it offends my principles, or perhaps because it has morphed into a vaping ban in many venues, but the smoking ban is the wound that won't heal.

The most obvious adverse consequence of the smoking ban was the destruction of a large part of Britain's night time economy, as Rob Lyons has shown in his recent report. The anti-smoking lobbyists who claimed that the ban would lead to a renaissance for pubs have been strangely quiet on this subject since the 'temporary' drop in sales seen in the summer of 2007 (which was initially blamed on wet weather) turned into a permanent slump.

As North Korea tests another long range missile reports from North Korea confirm that far from being in crisis its economy is in the midst of a boom.

Both the US and Russia say that the Hwasong-14 missile which was launched today is of intermediate range, and is not as North Korea claims an intercontinental ballistic missile ("ICBM"). It seems that whilst the missile can cover all of Alaska it does not have the range to reach the rest of the continental United States.

Though this is almost certainly true - and is in accord both with what Chinese and Russians specialists say about the North Korean ballistic missile program - the fact that the very first test of such a powerful and sophisticated missile appears to have been completely successful highlights North Korea's growing mastery of ballistic missile technology.

Police in Ukraine have seized the servers of one of the largest accounting software firms in the country, after it was suspected that a malware virus which hit dozens of global enterprises last week had spread via its malicious update.

As part of an investigation into one of the largest recent cyber attacks, the servers of Ukraine's most popular accounting software, M.E.Doc were seized by Ukrainian police Tuesday, Reuters reported, citing the head of Ukraine's Cyber Police, Sergey Demedyuk.

Cyber Police spokeswoman Yulia Kvitko confirmed an ongoing investigation into M.E.Doc's offices.
