The fresh releases are from a group of 400 "hardcore" Taliban prisoners, the fate of which has stalled peace negotiations between the government and insurgent group to end nearly two decades of war in Afghanistan.
This group of prisoners were released from the main jail in the capital Kabul on Monday evening and Tuesday at the same time six Afghan special forces members held by the Taliban were freed, the officials said.
"We want to finish the prisoner swap so we could start the peace process as soon as possible," said a senior government official, who declined to be name because of the sensitivity of the issue. A source close to the process said the prisoner swap could be finished by today.

The home of Portland’s Democrat mayor Ted Wheeler was swarmed by an angry Black Lives Matter mob shortly after he praised their “peaceful protests.”
Ted Wheeler wrote to neighbors in his building to say it would be "best for me and for everyone else's safety and peace" for him to move from the building that rioters tried to torch on his 58th birthday Monday, according to The Oregonian.
"I want to express my sincere apologies for the damage to our home and the fear that you are experiencing due to my position," Wheeler reportedly wrote, according to a screenshot of the email.
Comment: More like his unwillingness to actually use his position to arrest the rioters.
"It's unfair to all of you who have no role in politics or in my administration."
The mayor bought his two-bedroom condo in the building with 114 units for $840,000 in 2017, the paper said, citing property records. It has regularly been a scene of protests, with fireworks lit and lights shone on the building as fires also get lit in the street.
Wheeler has faced harsh criticism for his handling of the protests in the City of Roses for 97 consecutive nights since George Floyd's police-custody death in Minneapolis in May. He has sympathized with protesters, called for cops to refrain from arrests and also pledged to defund the police.
By not Diapering.
As at the RNC last week. As by not insisting that those attending Diaper - though some, to their great discredit, did anyhow. That's you, Rand Paul. Very disappointing given your father's example. Which you ought to have followed.
And which Donald did.
No Diaper. It sends a signal that all who oppose this Sickness Kabuki ought to have received. As opposed to the evil tidings foreboded by Diapered Joe. Who is signaling a personal commitment to impose what he has promised - by promising it. By doing it. A National Diaper Mandate.
No way out - or Hut! Hut! Hut!
If Joe wins, we lose. We're Diapered. And Needled - which is what Diapering is meant to lay the psychological ground for.
It is that simple.
Police in Victoria have found a new way to amuse themselves in the time of corona. What with Premier Dan Andrews placing the entire state under house arrest to stop them breathing the same air as anyone else, real crime has taken something of a back seat.
There is little point trying to burgle houses when people are prevented from leaving them by law and the paucity of people on the streets means that mugging is a bit of a no-no so the real wrong 'uns have taken some time off. This is slightly ironic considering everyone has to dress like they're about to hold up a post office thanks to the mask mandate, but c'est la nouveau vie.
Comment: The Post Millennial gives more details on the arrest:
As the officers enter her home, she says "You can show me your search warrant before you go through my house."Police appear to be oblivious to the impact of their actions, expressing themselves as 'satisfied' with the raid and arrest. The public, not so much :
The officers let her know that she is under arrest "in relation to incitement."
"What on Earth? Excuse me, what on Earth?" Buhler asks, shocked, saying that she has "an ultrasound in an hour."
The officers explain, as they handcuff her and read her rights to her, that she's being arrested for incitement over a Facebook post about a protest to end the lockdown.
"And I wasn't breaking any laws by doing that," Buhler says.
"You are actually," the arresting officer says, "And that's why I'm arresting you."
The man of the house suggests that the officers should just ask her to take the post down, and Buhler says that she would be "happy to delete the post," adding that the situation was "ridiculous."
He goes on to suggest that she can also not do the event, since it hasn't even happened as yet. But the officer instead continues the arrest, stating "we believe you are committed to it."
The officers go on to state their intention to seize all computers and mobile devices in the home as Buhler breaks down in tears.
"Any device in this house, we're taking," the officers say.
The event was called Freedom Day Ballarat, and was to be held on Saturday at 11 am in Ballarat, Victoria. The post stated that the protest was intended to be peaceful, to follow all social distancing measures "so we don't get arrested."
"September 5 is FREEDOM DAY!" It read. "As some of you may have seen the government has gone to extreme measures and are using scare tactics through the media to prevent the Melbourne protest.
"Here is Ballarat we can be a voice for those in stage 4 lockdowns. We can be seen and heard and hopefully make a difference!"
It calls for an end to the lockdowns, and to stand for human rights, noting that Australia is a "'FREE' COUNTRY!"
This was classified as a call to incitement, and police, who many have said are guilty of drastically overreaching their power, entered a woman's home and arrested her for a social media post wherein she wished to assert her freedom in a free country.
The Victoria Police gave a statement that said they were aware of the gathering, and that "Any gathering of this nature is in blatant breach of the Chief Health Officer's directions and puts Victorian lives at risk."
Yahoo! News reported that the officers intend to arrest the others involved in organizing the protest, which is in violation of directives from the Chief Health Officer.
In a message likely to further stir up public outrage, Victoria police insisted officers, who put an expecting mother in restraints over an anti-lockdown post, acted "reasonably" - although she described it in chilling terms.
Victoria state police responded to the mounting outrage on Thursday, with Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius confirming he has seen the viral footage. According to him, the police team "have conducted themselves entirely reasonably, they've been polite, professional."
"We're absolutely satisfied the members behaved appropriately and in accordance with our policy," Cornelius stated, referring to "briefings provided to me."
He admitted, however, that the optics weren't so great. "I would be the first to acknowledge the optics, for want of a better description, arresting a pregnant female, it's never going to look good," he said.
Meanwhile, Buhler herself - who officially faced "incitement" charges later on Wednesday - recalled the experience. "Honestly, I was scared I was being kidnapped by people because they weren't in uniforms," she told reporters.
Expanding on her Facebook message, Buhler said she didn't realize calling for the anti-quarantine gathering was an offense, adding she was ready to cooperate with police. "If the police had just called me and told me to remove the post I would've done so," she said.

Portland police officers push protesters past a dumpster fire during a dispersal from in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in the early morning on August 21, 2020 in Portland, Oregon.
The sheriffs of Clackamas and Washington County in Oregon said they won't send staff to help with the nightly unrest in Portland after Gov. Kate Brown unveiled a plan to bring an end to violence in the city.
Brown had asked the sheriffs and the Gresham Police Department to support the Portland Police Bureau with personnel and resources "to keep the peace and protect free speech."
Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts on Monday said the governor never approached him before unveiling her plan to mobilize local law enforcement agencies in the Portland protests, and that he has no plans to send his staff to nightly demonstrations.
Tucker Carlson interviews John Pierce, attorney for Kyle Rittenhouse, a 17-year old young man who shot three rioters in Kenosha who were attacking him and threatening his own life, as caught on video. He killed two of them in self defense, yet he is presently sitting in jail and is the only person charged with any crime in this incident thus far.
The case here appears to be crystal clear in Mr. Rittenhouse's favor, yet he is being incarcerated and nary a word came from the City of Kenosha about what the rioters were doing. It is significant that no evidence of charges are being pressed against people who are destroying private property at will, brutally attacking other human beings for any reason, especially as we see in the video at about 6:13, one man runs at Kyle who is fallen on the street and has a Glock aimed right at him.

Fort Hood officials report 26 soldiers died this year in accidents, suicides, homicides, illness and pending cases; one addition soldier died in Iraq.
Maj. Gen. Richardson previously served as FORSCOM's director of operations from 2019-2020, and was selected in March 2020 by the Department of the Army to serve as the next DCG for III Corps.
Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt will continue to serve as the deputy commanding general for support and will remain at Fort Hood to assist with the reintegration of III Corps as they return from their mission supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
Data and analytics firm Hawkfish told the Axios news site that President Donald Trump will likely enjoy what appears to be a landslide victory on November 3. Hawkfish, a firm funded by Democrat billionaire Michael Bloomberg and employed by the Democratic National Committee, claimed that Trump could hold a lead of 408-130 electoral votes on election night.
This landslide would be the most one-sided result since George HW Bush dispatched Michael Dukakis by 426 votes to 111 in 1988. However, according to Hawkfish CEO Josh Mendelsohn, it would be a "red mirage."
In the days after, a steady trickle of mail-in ballots would swing the vote back in Biden's favor, and could see the Democrat win by 333-204, according to one modeling prediction. A victory for Biden in this scenario would take nearly a week, with 15 percent of mail-in ballots counted every day. Central to Hawkfish's prediction is the assumption that Democrats are more likely than Republicans to vote by mail, on account of coronavirus fears.
Comment: Tucker Carlson's take on this:
And remember, formal polls are all but useless.
Study: Are Election 2020 poll respondents being honest about their vote? What's more reliable are broad 'psychographic snapshots' that pull in social media chatter, phone conversations, online searches for candidates, etc. All data the NSA and shadow intel agencies have access to. So they know, for sure, what the result will be, and are adapting their strategy accordingly. Last time around they were cooking up Russiagate at this point...

The District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions (DCFACES) said in a report Monday that it was tasked with evaluating whether statues and memorials in the city should be removed or contextualized if the historical figures they represent participated in "slavery, systemic racism, mistreatment of, or actions that suppressed equality for, persons of color, women and LGBTQ communities and violation of the DC Human Right Act."
The working group recommended that Bowser, a Democrat, use her position on the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission to support the removal or contextualization of the Christopher Columbus Fountain, the Benjamin Franklin Statue, the Andrew Jackson Statue and the Jefferson Memorial.
Comment: Trump is none-to-happy about Bowser's announcement. From Fort Russ:
US President Donald Trump has slammed DC Mayor Muriel Bowser's proposal to demolish monuments to several historical figures allegedly guilty of racism. Among them are several presidents, including the famous Washington monument, as well as the navigator credited as leading the first major European expedition to the Americas, Christopher Columbus. The Orwellian march towards fascism continues.
Trump's position on this issue was announced in a statement published on the White House website."By publishing a plan that recommends the potential demolition of the Washington Monument, the Christopher Columbus Statue, Andrew Jackson and the Jefferson Memorial, Washington's radically liberal mayor is repeating the same story used by the left to incite dangerous riots: the destruction of our history and the destruction of our great heritage," Trump said in the statement.Trump believes that these monuments need to be preserved and respected, because they are installed in honor of the people who built the country.
Earlier, on August 31, a special committee at the mayor's office of the American capital renamed, removed or contextualized 1,330 objects allegedly related to racism.
Recall that the fight against the monuments to the founding fathers of the United States is part of the campaign against racism, held under the slogan "Black Lives Matter". This movement arose in May after the death of an African American, George Floyd, at the hands of police officers .
The movement to destroy statues and monuments has also been criticized by the left, chiefly for being a middle-class 'feel good' distraction which costs nothing to those in power, and does nothing to address the real-existing socioeconomic needs of people on the whole.

Comment: He's not the only one. Democratic St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson hasn't been living in her home for 2 months. She gave a similar excuse as Wheeler: Maybe Democrats will realize these Antifa and BLM nutjobs aren't their friends. But we're not holding our breath!
