While third party candidates have experienced growing success in the dearth of acceptable duopoly offerings, a dark horse has emerged.
According to Public Policy Polling, 'Giant Meteor for President' now ranks as a serious contender — garnering "far more support than the third party candidates actually on the ballot."
No, this most certainly is not the Onion.
"[W]e find that the Meteor would poll at 13% ... with Clinton at 43% and Trump at 38%," with the Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson the favorite among just 5 percent and Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein winning just 2 percent of votes.
Yes, seriously.
In fact, the PPP notes, "The Meteor is particularly appealing to independent voters, functionally in a three way tie at 27% to 35% for Clinton and 31% for Trump."
Several sightings of unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, over the Savannah River Site (SRS) have been reported by site security in the month of June, the US Department of Energy announced Thursday.
Monte Volk, a spokesman for SRS, told The State it is yet unknown who is behind the flights or why they are occurring.
"The protective force at Savannah River Site (SRS) has confirmed several sightings of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) flying in SRS airspace in June. SRS takes these reports very seriously and is coordinating with appropriate federal, state, and local authorities," the Energy Department said in a statement.
Christie issued the executive order declaring the emergency late Thursday, the day when the Senate negotiations to save the Transportation Trust Fund - which is expected to run out of money this summer - failed.
Christie said that he is instructing the New Jersey Department of Transportation to shut down all work by the end of Saturday that isn't directly essential to the safety and welfare of citizens.
"As this executive order states, in order to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of this state, it is necessary that the remaining amounts held by the TTF not be spent on any transportation project that is not absolutely essential," Christie said in a statement.

Leader of the opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn delivers a speech to supporters at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in central London on June 29, 2016
Labour Party officials claim that 60,000 new members have joined the party since the EU referendum results were announced last Friday. The figure is said to represent one of the fastest rises in membership of any political party in British history.
The surge puts Labour's new total member base at 450,000 - higher than its last peak of 440,000 under former Prime Minister Tony Blair.
This figure dwarfs other political parties in the UK, with the Liberal Democrats currently fairing at around 70,000 members and the last available Conservative membership figures putting the total at 134,000.
Of the new intake, 20,000 have been checked and more than half are said to have joined to support Corbyn in a potential leadership challenge.
Comment: The people clearly are happy with the job that Corbyn is doing. Despite that, the elites in the UK would like a more pro-Empire leader there and may have even orchestrated the recent Brexit as a way to remove him from power:

Data provided to The Hill by the conservative polling outlet WPA Research found that 67 percent of Democrats would take a third term for Obama over a potential Clinton administration.

Fighters from the Islamic State group parade in Raqqa, north Syria, June 30, 2014. Islamic State militants are cracking down on the few remaining Christians and preventing them from leaving Raqqa, Syria, local activists told VOA on April 5, 2016.
John (name changed for protection), a student in his early 20s, recalled in an interview with persecution charity Open Doors the day that Raqqa was overrun by Islamic State on 13 January 2014.
ISIS militants gathered together the church leaders in Raqqa and gave them the now infamous ultimatum leveled at Christians all over its self-proclaimed caliphate: flee, convert to Islam, or pay the 'jizya' tax for the right to remain in the city."They were coming from Iraq with tanks, military vehicles, and even a big rocket that was at least five metres in length," he said. "It was very intimidating".
At the beginning of 2014 there were around 1,500 Christian families living in Raqqa. After ISIS took over, just 50 remained; the rest having chosen to flee.
John's family, forbidden from selling or renting their property and afraid of losing their business, decided to stay and pay the jizya, which was initially 54,000 Syrian pounds per man. Last year, that figure more than trebled.
This past Saturday, June 25th, Harris talked about her work to a group of journalists and bloggers who traveled to Washington D.C. from different corners of the country to hear from leaders of the criminal justice reform movement. Harris was the first speaker at FreedomWorks' #JusticeForAll event, and as the leader of USJAN, she set the tone for what turned out to be a fascinating conference.
The veteran litigator opened her speech by outlining USJAN's goals, explaining the organization believes "our [criminal] code just doesn't make sense." That's why their "goal is to shrink criminal codes" and "get rid of these unfair, unnecessary duplicative and inconsistent laws."
But it was something else she told the crowd a few minutes later that got attendees worked up.
Saying it's the right thing to do, Defense Secretary Ash Carter laid out a yearlong implementation plan declaring that "Americans who want to serve and can meet our standards should be afforded the opportunity to compete to do so."
"Our mission is to defend this country, and we don't want barriers unrelated to a person's qualification to serve preventing us from recruiting or retaining the soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine who can best accomplish the mission," Carter said at a Pentagon news conference.
Under the new policy, by Oct. 1, transgender troops already serving should be able to receive medical care and begin formally changing their gender identifications in the Pentagon's personnel system.

Comment: This is the same nuclear site that was supposed to be completed as part of an agreement with Russia on converting weapons-grade plutonium into nuclear reactor fuel. Russia isn't pleased the US is not holding it's part of the deal.
