SEATTLE - A man who tried to position himself as a leader of the anti-war movement by claiming to have participated in war crimes while serving in Iraq is facing federal charges of falsifying his record.
Jesse Adam Macbeth, 23, formerly of Phoenix, garnered attention on blogs and in some alternative media after he began claiming in 2005 to have been awarded a Purple Heart for his service, which he said included slaughtering innocents in a Fallujah mosque. His story was contradicted by his discharge form, showing that he was kicked out of the Army after six weeks at Fort Benning, Ga., in 2003 because of his "entry level performance and conduct."
THE US wishes to be part of any fresh effort, under UN leadership, to renew the stalled talks on Cyprus with a view to finding a negotiated settlement, US Undersecretary at the State Department Nicholas Burns has said.
In his remarks to participants of the third annual meeting of the International Coordinating Committee- Justice For Cyprus, Burns dismissed any suggestions of bringing back a the Annan plan, which the overwhelming majority of Greek Cypriots rejected in the April 2004 referendum and which the Turkish Cypriots approved.

Over 500 cat carcasses and skins were found in the apartment of a murder suspect in central Israel. A gag order on the case was removed Thursday.
Rostislas Bugoslavsky, an 18-year-old from Petach Tikva, has been arrested for allegedly committing two murders, an attempted murder and killing approximately 500 stray cats.
The suspect initially denied the allegations; however, the police investigation team has gathered evidence linking him to the crimes.
The investigation began in March, when a 68-year-old man was stabbed in the neck and left to bleed to death. A prior, similar attack that wounded a 32-year-old, gave rise to the possibility that this was the doing of a serial killer and a gag order was put on the investigation.
'Reaper' droids prepare to harvest fleeing humans
The US Air Force has announced it has ordered a further quartet of MQ-9 'Reapers', worth $59m, to supplement its initial fleet of seven.
A decision on full-rate production is expected in 2009. Meanwhile, the head of the Royal Air Force said last week that the UK will also deploy its first fully-armed Reapers "later this year".

The MQ-9 is the most formidable killer robot currently in operation. It's a big beast, 36 feet long with an 86-foot wingspan. It can fly for 14 hours without refuelling, going at a maximum speed of 300mph and as high as 50,000 feet - nine and a half miles up.

A Church of England Dean will tell a BBC Radio 4 audience this evening that traditional teaching of Christ's crucifixion is both "repulsive" and "insane."
The Very Rev Jeffrey John is an openly gay Dean who was forced to step down as a candidate for bishop after a row about his sexuality.
Traditionally, Christian theology has taught that because humans have sinned, God sent Christ to suffer and die in our place.
He is expected to say in the Lent Talks broadcast that clergy who preach that Christ was sent to earth to die in atonement for the sins of mankind are "making God sound like a psychopath."
"In other words, Jesus took the rap and we got forgiven as long as we said we believed in him," Mr John says.
