Psychopathy Disinformation Alert! Use Twitter To Spot Psychopaths

Image

Beware stereotypes. Most often psychopaths come to us through a mist of pity ploys...

People's nasty traits have a way of revealing themselves on social networks: in writing. Or rather in how they write. That means an analysis of how someone tweets could reveal whether he or she is narcissistic, Machiavellian, or psychopathic, according to researchers who plan to present their findings at DefCon next week.

What are some of the Twitter stylings of these undesirables? Curse words. Angry responses to other people, including swearing and use of the word "hate." Using the word "we." Using periods. Using filler words such as "blah" and "I mean" and "um."

(I suspect that an analysis of the Twitter streams of many a blogger would suggest they are potentially a narcissist, a psychopath or an avid reader of "The Prince." Which may well be an accurate assessment.)

Comment: This new trend of 'spotting psychopaths in ten easy steps' and other such ludicrous notions is really worrying and harks back to the myth that you can discern the character of an individual by whether or not they look you in the eye.

It often takes months or years of living and working closely with someone before it becomes apparent that something may be 'not quite right' with them. Just because someone curses on Twitter or gets angry with you does not necessarily mean they're psychopathic!

A man arrested during the Olympic cycling road race says he was detained for "not smiling".

Martial arts trainer Mark Worsfold, 54, was arrested shortly before cyclists passed through Leatherhead on July 28 due to "his manner, his state of dress and his proximity to the course", according to police.

But Mr Worsfold, who had been doing a Taekwondo demonstration in Red House Gardens, said officers told him he was arrested because he was not smiling - and he added that his face can seem expressionless due to his Parkinson's disease.

"I was sitting minding my own business," he said. "Before I knew anything the police grabbed me off this seven-foot wall, threw me to the floor and cuffed me so all I saw of the cycle race was between the feet of people from the pavement."

ild an Islamic caliphate under the earth.

The digging began about a decade ago and 70 followers soon moved into an eight-level subterranean honeycomb of cramped cells with no light, heat or ventilation.

Children were born. They, too, lived in the cold underground cells for many years - until authorities raided the compound last week and freed the 27 sons and daughters of the sect.

Ages 1 to 17, the children rarely saw the light of day and had never left the property, attended school or been seen by a doctor, officials said Wednesday. Their parents - sect members who call themselves "muammin," from the Arabic for "believers" - were charged with child abuse.

The sect's 83-year-old founder, Faizrakhman Satarov, who declared himself a prophet in contradiction to the principles of Islam, was charged with negligence, said Irina Petrova, deputy prosecutor in the provincial capital of Kazan.

The children were discovered when police searched the sect grounds as part of an investigation into the recent killing of a top Tatarstan Muslim cleric, an attack local officials blame on radical Islamist groups that have mushroomed in the oil-rich, Volga River province of Tatarstan.

Ultra-Orthodox Jewish Men Offered Blurry Glasses to Keep Israeli Women out of Sight

Jerusalem - It's the latest prescription for extreme ultra-Orthodox Jewish men who shun contact with the opposite sex: Glasses that blur their vision, so they don't have to see women they consider to be immodestly dressed.

In an effort to maintain their strictly devout lifestyle, the ultra-Orthodox have separated the sexes on buses, sidewalks and other public spaces in their neighbourhoods. Their interpretation of Jewish law forbids contact between men and women who are not married.

Walls in their neighbourhoods feature signs exhorting women to wear closed-necked, long-sleeved blouses and long skirts. Extremists have accosted women they consider to have flouted the code.

Now they're trying to keep them out of clear sight altogether.

The ultra-Orthodox community's unofficial "modesty patrols" are selling glasses with special blur-inducing stickers on their lenses. The glasses provide clear vision for up to a few meters so as not to impede movement, but anything beyond that gets blurry - including women. It's not known how many have been sold.

For men forced to venture outside their insular communities, hoods and shields that block peripheral vision are also being offered.

The glasses are going for the "modest" price of $6.

Smart Meter Fires Spark Concerns in B.C.

BC Hydro plans to install 1.8 million smart meters across B.C. by the end of 2012.
Questions are being raised about the safety of smart meters after fire crews were called to a home in Coquitlam over problems with the box - the second such incident in weeks.

The latest incident happened at about 3 a.m. PT on Sunday morning. There was only minor damage to the home, said Coquitlam fire Chief Scott MacKenzie.

He declined to comment further as the case has now been handed over to BC Hydro for a full investigation.

Technicians had installed a smart meter at the residence - an older home - about a month ago, said a BC Hydro official.

The incident comes after a Mission woman's house burnt down on June 15, just one day after a smart meter was installed there.

A report by the Mission Fire Department said the fire originated at the base plate which the smart meter was plugged into.

BC Hydro says the base is part of the house, so any damage or fault with the equipment is the responsibility of the homeowner.

"There's a lot of steps underway to ensure that everything is safe," said BC Hydro spokeswoman Cindy Verschoor. "But that's not to say that equipment can't malfunction at any time."

The MoJ confirmed that prisoners from Prescoed prison had done 'work experience' at Becoming Green's call centre.
A business is bussing in inmates from an open prison 21 miles away and paying them only £3 a day to work in its call centre.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) confirmed that dozens of prisoners from Prescoed prison in Monmouthshire, south Wales, had done "work experience" for at least two months at a rate of 40p an hour in the private company's telephone sales division in Cardiff.

People working in the prisons sector described the scheme as "disgusting" and a "worrying development".

Christopher J. Wilson
Phoenix police say one of their officers was arrested Tuesday night for sexual misconduct with minors. Chief Daniel Garcia of Phoenix police identified the officer at a news conference Wednesday morning as 43-year-old Christopher J. Wilson.

A 14-year-old boy told his parents about the allegations of sexual misconduct, Garcia said. The investigation began when another victim, a 17-year-old boy, contacted police, he said. The relationship with the 17-year-old lasted three to four months, and the relationship with the 14-year-old was about three weeks long, Garcia said.

Wilson was a community relations officer that worked with a youth group, police said. He was arrested just after 8 p.m. Tuesday at his home without incident. Wilson admitted to the relationships and resigned, police said.

He was a 13-year veteran.

Marilyn Monroe 'Returns as Israeli'

Edith Daniel claims she is the reincarnation of Marilyn Monroe.
An Israeli alternative medicine practitioner claimed that the spirit of Hollywood actress and American legend Marilyn Monroe was reincarnated in her body.

In a video interview (Hebrew), Dr. Edith Daniel showed videos of herself in an ecstatic state, and told the camera Norma Jeane Mortenson was living in her body.

Edith was the name she was given by her mother, Daniel said. "I added Norma Jeane to my name when I received my doctorate," the Hebrew news site NRG reported on Sunday.

Daniel said that for years she felt something was strange and different about herself. At the age of five she saw a picture of the actress, kept by her father in his closet, for the first time. Marylin Monroe, unclothed, caused Daniel "to feel something" about herself.

Daniel, who holds a doctorate in alternative medicine and homeopathic remedies, turned to Dr. Bruce Goldberg, a hypnotherapist who authored a book on reincarnation, to try to understand what she was feeling.
