At least 17 injured in shooting at downtown Tuscaloosa bar

Tuscaloosa police are asking for information on this man, who is a suspect in an early morning shooting in Tuscaloosa at Copper Top.
Tuscaloosa, Alabama - At least 17 people were injured in an early morning shooting at a bar in downtown Tuscaloosa.

A man walked up to Copper Top in Temerson Square near Fourth Street and 23rd Avenue around 12:30 a.m. and fired into the bar, according to a witness.

Tuscaloosa police released photos taken from surveillance footage of the suspect. The TPD also posted video of the suspect on its Facebook page.

Seventeen people were treated at DCH Regional Medical Center, which was put on lockdown after the shooting. Two people were in critical condition early this morning, according to a nursing supervisor at DCH Regional Medical Center.

When I first read that genetically modified humans have already been born, I could hardly believe it. However, further research into this story featured in the UK's Daily Mail1 proved it to be true. They've really done it... they've created humans that nature could never allow for, and it's anyone's guess as to what will happen next.

Even more shocking was the discovery that this is actually old news!

The Daily Mail article was not dated, and upon investigation, the experiments cited actually took place over a decade ago; the study announcing their successful birth was published in 20012.

While I typically comment on recent findings and health related news, in this case I will make an exception, because I think many of you may be as surprised by this information as I was. I do not propose to have any answers here as this is out of my scope of expertise.

At best, I hope I can stir you to ponder the implications of this type of genetic engineering, and I invite you to share your perspective in the vital votes' comment section below. As reported in the featured article:
"The disclosure that 30 healthy babies were born after a series of experiments in the United States provoked another furious debate about ethics... Fifteen of the children were born... as a result of one experimental program at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of St Barnabas in New Jersey.

The babies were born to women who had problems conceiving. Extra genes from a female donor were inserted into their eggs before they were fertilized in an attempt to enable them to conceive.

Genetic fingerprint tests on two one-year- old children confirm that they have inherited DNA from three adults - two women and one man."

Comment: We shouldn't really be that surprised to learn that the psychopaths went ahead and did this without telling anyone...

Do you want to see where this country is headed? If so, don't focus on the few areas that are still very prosperous. New York City has Wall Street, Washington D.C. has the federal government and Silicon Valley has Google and Facebook. Those are the exceptions. The reality is that most of the country has been experiencing a slow decline for a very long time and once thriving cities such as Gary, Indiana and Flint, Michigan have become absolute hellholes. They are examples of what the rest of America will look like soon.

60 years ago, most Americans were decent, hard working people and there were always good jobs available for anyone that was willing to roll up his or her sleeves and put in an honest day of work. But now all of that has changed. Over the past decade, tens of thousands of manufacturing facilities have shut down and millions of jobs have left the country. Cities such as Cleveland, Baltimore and Detroit were once shining examples of everything that was right about America, but now they stand out like festering sores. The "blue collar cities" have been hit the hardest by the gutting of our economic infrastructure. There are many communities in America today where it seems like all of the hope and all of the life have been sucked right out of them. You can see it in the eyes of the people. The good times are gone permanently and they know it. Unfortunately, the remainder of the country will soon be experiencing the despair that those communities are feeling.

Bystanders Walk Past Accident Victim, Get on Bus

The Arlington County Police Department has released shocking video from a Metrobus that stopped at the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident earlier this month.

The video was taken on the evening of July 1. Just minutes prior to the start of the video, a man had been struck by a car on Columbia Pike near the intersection with Four Mile Run Drive, which was darkened due to power outages in the area following the June 29 derecho. The video shows the bus pulling up to the scene, which was next to a bus stop. The man's bloodied body - blurred out by police - is lying on the sidewalk.

With the bus stopped, passengers file past the man's body. Although someone had called 911 - lights from police cars heading to the scene can be seen in the background - not a single person stops to check on the man, who was either dead or dying. A woman carrying shopping bags walks right by, without hesitation. One man crosses himself after getting on the bus.

A recent Gallup poll shows that an all time low of on only 20% of the public trusts the news as citizen journalism continues to rise.

Bias and bungled reporting on US news networks are behind plummeting audience numbers, according to the Gallup Poll.

As far as the 20% who do still trust the news I would suppose they simply either don't have internet access or when they go online the don't dare stray to far from sites owned by the corporations that own the corporate media.

Of course that isn't even the tip of the iceberg.

Fukushima beaches reopen to the public

Holidaymakers have descended on a beach near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, the first time they have been allowed to swim in the area since last year's triple meltdown.

Local authorities decided to open Nakoso beach, located just 65km (40 miles) south of the stricken plant, after declaring the water safe. Radiation doses in the air were also low, at up to 0.07 microsieverts an hour, far below those considered a threat to health.

On Monday, which was a national holiday held to celebrate the ocean, about 1,000 people, including young families, headed to the beach for the first time in two summers.

"The water's still cold, but it's going to be a good season," Yukiei Hakozaki, a local guide, told Kyodo News. "We want lots of people to come."

The fictitious nation of Czervenia has just attacked its neighboring country with a "massive military offensive" and several Army soldiers sit around a conference table, planning how to rescue refugees and send a long-range surveillance team into enemy territory.

A helicopter hovers over a refugee camp in the rain, its blades whirring as rain falls. Soldiers parachute into the forest near a Czervenian staging area and watch through night-vision scopes.

The scenes are part of "America's Army," a graphic novel launched by the U.S. Army in 2009. Once available only in a static form through a web-based reader, the panels now come alive with sound effects and partial animation in a new iPad and Android app released last week.

Soldiers can be heard rustling in leaves as they try to hide from Czervenian forces on a night mission. Gunfire rattles as the screen flashes with "BOOM," "PING," and "PANG."

Large fire sweeps through Istanbul 42-storey building (which is still standing by the way)

A large fire has swept through a 42-storey building in the centre of the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Television footage showed the Polat Tower building engulfed in thick black plumes of smoke, with pieces of debris falling to the ground.

Firefighters - backed by helicopters - later managed to contain the blaze, the cause of which is being investigated.

Officials said no-one was injured in the building which houses shops, apartments and offices.

The officials said hundreds of people were safely evacuated.

Turkey's Anatolia news agencies earlier reported that many people had been stranded inside.

The risk of a new depression - a sustained, severe recession - has struck fear into the heart of markets and driven monetary policy in developed economies since the current financial crisis began. "We're in a very unfortunate position to be here," Richard Duncan, author of The New Depression, warned on CNBC's Squawk Box Europe Monday.

"When we broke the link between money and gold, this removed all constraints on credit creation. This explosion of credit created the world we live in, but it now seems that credit cannot expand any further because the private sector is incapable of repaying the debt it has already, and if credit begins to contract, there's a very real danger that we will collapse into a new Great Depression," he argued.

"If this credit bubble pops, the depression could be so severe that I don't think our civilization could survive it."

The explosion in cheap credit has been widely blamed for the global financial crisis, but the debate about how to fix the problem continues.

Two killed, 19 injured in another Toronto shooting

Two people were killed and at least 19 injured in a shooting at an outdoor party in Toronto, police said on Tuesday, raising fresh fears of a rise in gun crime in Canada's largest city.

Police said it was too early to say what prompted the shooting late on Monday in which a young man and young woman were killed. Many of those hurt were injured in the panic that ensued after shots were fired.

"This is the most serious crime of its kind to ever take place in the city of Toronto," Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair told reporters at the scene.
