Recent study reveals catastrophic impact of fracking on US drinking water sources

Fracking contaminates drinking water
According to a recent study conducted at Duke University revealed that Hydraulic fracking is having a catastrophic impact on water supplies throughout the US. The findings of the study suggest that fracking is using far much more water than before, and putting a huge dent in the amount of drinkable water available in water supplies.

Hydraulic fracturing is a natural gas extraction method that has become extremely controversial for its environmental impacts. Fracking is the process of drilling down into the earth before a high-pressure water mixture is directed at the rock to release the gas inside. Water, sand, and chemicals are injected into the rock at high pressure, which allows the gas to flow out to the head of the well. Wastewater produced from this process is highly toxic and filled with a variety of chemicals.

In many cases, people who live near fracking sites have been able to set fire to the water and air that comes through their pipes. It has also been found to contaminate drinking water. Unfortunately, fracking is still somewhat popular publicly because people know very little about it and it is also popular politically because all of the politicians have a hand in it.

Due to an increased prevalence of seismic activity in the vicinity of fracking areas, many activists have pointed out that this process may cause earthquakes as well.

Comment: Without clean water we die. Water literally is life. Much of the drinking water in the US is contaminated with chemicals ranging from pesticides to pharmaceutical drugs, yet this fact is generally ignored until some major crisis (like Flint) bursts into the headlines:

Is the collapse of the career politician nigh?

The prevailing consensus among political analysts in the United States about Donald Trump's victory in 2016 centers on the idea that career politicians in America have, over time, become divorced from the realities of day to day existence in America. Washington politicians seem less able to relate to individuals while relating to policies those individuals do not think are helping them.

This is playing out across the country with upstart candidates who have never been in politics convincing voters that they have a better understanding of what to do than career politicians who have dedicated their lives to public service. One of these races is happening in Oklahoma where political newcomer Kevin Stitt is in a runoff against long time Mayor of Oklahoma City, Mick Cornett.

Saudi-led coalition's bombing and blockade of Yemen prevents cancer patients from receiving vital medicine

Civilians are paying a high price in the country’s war, but those who are seriously ill are even more affected. Around 35,000 people have cancer in Yemen, with 11,000 cases diagnosed each year, according to the World Health Organization.
As the Saudi-led coalition continues to bomb and blockade Yemen with no signs of stopping, patients with cancer are being prevented from receiving medicine that could potentially save their lives.

Civilians are paying a high price in the country's war, but those who are seriously ill are even more affected. RT's Ruptly agency spoke to Dr. Anwar Al-Rajawi, head of the oncology department at the National Oncology Center in Sanaa.

"Here in the oncology unit, we suffer from a severe lack of chemotherapy [drugs]. If a child is diagnosed with a malignant tumor, we cannot provide the treatment in a timely manner. We cannot do anything due to the lack of drugs in the protocol," he said.

Comment: The 'world's moral authority' sheds crocodile tears over civilian deaths that can be blamed (whether true or no) on non-allies while ignoring the devastation wrought by their own policies:

Belgian police have busted a massive cocaine shipment in Ghent, marked with a bear symbol, identical to United Russia Party logo. Party officials took the news lightheartedly.

Nearly two tons of cocaine was uncovered on Tuesday. The drugs were stashed in three containers, arriving at the port city of Ghent from Brazil. Cocaine was packaged into more than 1,900 separate bricks, some of which were branded with a logo depicting a polar bear under the Russian tricolor. The image is practically identical to the official logo of Russia's ruling Party.

Reading isn't fundamental: Police attempt to make family remove mailbox library

mailbox library
We can now add giving away free books as a reason police will show up to your home and threaten you with fines. Earlier this month, that is exactly what happened to a New Jersey family when they built a "Mailbox Library" in their front yard to encourage the neighborhood children to read.

The Hagemeyer family had just finished construction of their new library - which was already being used by children in the neighborhood - when police showed up at their door telling them it needed to be removed.

"We're still shaking our heads over the whole thing," Grace Hagemeyer told Patch.

As Patch reports,
After getting the call and talking to the family, the police initially said there was nothing they can do about it, according to the family, even though thousands of "mailbox libraries" have been popping up all over the country.

Grace said she and her husband, Peter, put one up on their property and had a grand opening on July 29 at their Hardenbergh Avenue home. That same day, they had a visit from police. The next day, they were contacted by code enforcement officers.

The Hagemeyers then were told they had 10 days to take the structure down off their property. The family was initially told that such libraries are not allowed because they're not mentioned in the land-use ordinance.

Asia Argento reportedly dropped from 'X Factor Italy' over Bennett sex assault scandal

Italian actress Asia Argento has reportedly been dropped by 'X Factor Italy' after accusations that she sexually assaulted a teenager who appeared in a movie with her came to light.

The dramatic exit follows the recent bombshell that Argento paid former child actor and musician Jimmy Bennett a $380,000 settlement after he alleged that they had sex in a California hotel room in 2013. Bennett was 17 at the time, one year shy of the state's legal age of consent, and Argento was 37.

Argento has been reportedly pulled from the live version of the talent show, which is scheduled to start airing on September 6. However, she will still appear in the first seven pre-recorded episodes that show Argento and her fellow judges select the show's contestants through auditions, because otherwise they would've had to audition thousands of people all over again.

Funeral homes in Chicago have been accused of cashing in on the city's crime wave. Advocates claim they are taking advantage of a taxpayer-funded scheme that pays $7,500 in funeral expenses to homicide victims' families.

Some funeral directors have been reportedly inflating prices or charging families for services they never received.

"Every funeral home in the state knows that victims get $7,500 for a funeral and it's their goal to charge the entire amount because it's easy money," Susan Johnson, executive director of Chicago Survivors, told Fox News.

Victims of violent crime receive up to $27,000 in financial assistance for out-of-pocket expenses from the state and the federal government. The families of murder victims get $7,500 for funeral costs.

According to the National Funeral Directors Association, the average cost of a funeral for an adult is between $7,000 and $8,300. The Federal Trade Commission puts the figure slightly higher at around $10,000.

Police have stressed that people need to stay 'many blocks away.'

A suspect is dead and there were multiple other fatalities after a "mass shooting" on Sunday in downtown Jacksonville, Fla., at a popular area filled with bars and restaurants, police said.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said there were "multiple fatalities" from the mass shooting at Jacksonville Landing and many people were transported to the hospital.

"One suspect is dead at the scene, unknown at this time if we have a second suspect. Searches are being conducted," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tweeted.

Comment: More information from the Los Angeles Times:
Sources told News4Jax, a Jacksonville broadcast station, that at least four people had been fatally shot, and 11 total.

The shooter was a gamer who was competing in the tournament and lost, according to Steven "Steveyj" Javaruski, one of the competitors.

The shooter "targeted a few people" and shot at least five victims before killing himself, Javaruski told The Times in a direct message on Twitter. The gunman killed two or three people "that I saw," Javaruski said.
From First Coast News:
Information from hospitals:

Three victims of the mass shooting are being treated at Memorial Hospital and are labeled in stable condition, according to Memorial's spokesperson, Peter Moberg.

UF Health has six victims in their hospital. One victim is in serious condition and the other five are in good condition.
UPDATE August 27: Witnesses have come forward corroborating the sheriff's statement that the shooter was a gamer. One witness said the suspect 'just went crazy shooting up the room' after losing. Another said 'there was just so many gunshots - at least 20 of them at most'. Most are still in shock; one contestant who was on his way to the tournament said that "it could have been me, it could have been any one of us."

A man in Texas has been arrested a second time for shooting female drivers because he doesn't believe women should be allowed to get behind the wheel. Authorities say the man has a "dim" view of the opposite sex.

Nicholas D'Agostino was initially arrested for shooting a mother as she drove to a car wash in Katy, Texas, on July 10. The bullet went straight through her arm, lodging just millimeters from her heart.

96 percent of Google search results for 'Trump' are from liberal media outlets

Is Google manipulating its algorithm to prioritize left-leaning news outlets in their coverage of President Trump? It sure looks that way based on recent search results for news on the president.

Conservatives and Trump supporters have for the last several years questioned whether Google was deprioritizing conservative news sites, hiding them from users who utilize their search engine. Google has maintained that all outlets are treated fairly, but nevertheless, conservative sites have reported reduced search traffic and, in the case of Google-owned YouTube, content creators have been banned and demonetized. Google's high-profile firing of conservative James Damore, purportedly over his conservative political views, only reinforces the idea that Google is picking winners and losers.

To test the premise, I performed a Google search for "Trump" using the search engine's "News" tab and analyzed the results using Sharyl Attkisson's media bias chart.
