An ambitious train rail link, designed to connect the Finnish and Estonian capitals through the bottom of the Gulf of Finland, has attracted €15 billion (US$17 billion) from China-owned Touchstone Capital Partners.

Finest Bay Area Development Oy inked a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese fund, which sponsors Beijing's Belt and Road initiative, to provide funding for the Helsinki-Tallinn tunnel, the company announced on Friday. One-third of the €15 billion funding will come as a private equity investment, with Touchstone taking a minority share in the project, and the remaining two-thirds as debt financing.

The Chinese financing will be available to Finest Bay Area Development as the project progresses. The partners are to further agree on financial details of the contract over the next six months.

Comment: China continues to be a leader in creating win-win arrangements with other countries, while expanding its ambitious One Belt and One Road Initiative and establishing itself as a growing power center of the world.

Congo's Mai Mai militiamen attack Ebola treatment facility at center of epidemic

Ebola treatment center
Mai Mai militiamen attacked an Ebola treatment center at the heart of an outbreak of the disease in eastern Congo on Saturday, killing a policeman and wounding health workers before being repelled by security forces.

The center in Butembo was the same one torched by unknown assailants last week, an attack that prompted medical aid agency Medecins Sans Frontieres to suspend activities in the area.

Aid workers have faced deep mistrust in some areas as they work to contain the outbreak of the deadly hemorrhagic fever, the worst in Democratic Republic of Congo's history, killing close to 600 people so far.

Efforts to contain the virus have been hampered by a plethora of armed groups operating in Congo's lawless east.

Comment: This is by far Congo's worst-ever Ebola outbreak, and the world's second-largest Ebola epidemic ever recorded, behind only the West Africa outbreak of 2014-16.

That outbreak killed 11,300 people.

Global warming is a hoax pushed by corrupt scientists: The 'greatest scam in history' - Greenpeace founder

Greenpeace co-founder and former president of Greenpeace Canada Patrick Moore described the cynical and corrupt machinations fueling the narrative of anthropocentric global warming and "climate change" in a Wednesday interview on SiriusXM's Breitbart News Tonight with hosts Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollak.

Moore explained how fear and guilt are leveraged by proponents of climate change:
Fear has been used all through history to gain control of people's minds and wallets and all else, and the climate catastrophe is strictly a fear campaign - well, fear and guilt - you're afraid you're killing your children because you're driving them in your SUV and emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and you feel guilty for doing that. There's no stronger motivation than those two.
Scientists are co-opted and corrupted by politicians and bureaucracies invested in advancing the narrative of "climate change" in order to further centralize political power and control, explained Moore.

Comment: RT comments:
Moore, who founded the pioneering environmental activist group almost 50 years ago to protest nuclear war, met with an outpouring of support from conservatives and weary Democrats alike, after tweeting a scathing rebuke earlier this week to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose quixotic Green New Deal has become the standard-bearer of the 21st century environmental movement. He continued along those lines, criticizing the anti-climate-change movement for "co-opting and corrupting" politicians and allowing the environment to be treated as a political football without understanding of the meaning behind the rhetoric.

Democrats "might as well have signed a suicide pact," Moore said. "Not just for their political future, but for the future of the economy of the US, for all these people to be piling on the Green New Deal, which is a complete and utter ridiculous document."

But Moore reserved his harshest words for the Sunrise Movement he believes is backing Ocasio-Cortez.
They're brainwashing these children into thinking the world is coming to an end in 10 years. There's got to be billionaires behind this. I want to know who they are. I think we need to hunt them down.

Some parents who are angry with LGBT lessons at a Birmingham school should stop protesting about it, as their actions may be used by extreme fringe groups to "further messages of division and hate," the city council has warned.

The 'No Outsider' program, which teaches kids about same-sex relations through story books from the age of four, has been suspended until late April at the Parkfield Community School, due to the parents' outcry.

The parents, residents of the predominantly Muslim area, believe their children are too young for the program, which is vigorously promoted by assistant head teacher Andrew Moffat, who is a gay man.

There were loud rallies against the LGBT lessons outside the school, with 600 pupils taken out of classes by their parents earlier this week to spare them from knowledge about something that's taboo in Islam. Moffat has also reportedly faced threats online.

Fish groups slam FDA lifting of import ban on GMO frankenfish

"A loophole has now been created that will allow the first genetically modified animal engineered for human consumption to enter the US market: GMO Atlantic salmon," said Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations executive director Noah Oppenheim. "Fishermen have been fighting against the possibility of these frankenfish entering our waters and our markets for years, and we won't stop now.

The federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 8 announced that it will lift the import ban on eggs of AquaBounty's genetically modified salmon product, drawing praise from the company and strong criticism from fishing organizations.

"Today, we are taking another important step by deactivating a 2016 import alert that prevented GE salmon from entering the U.S." claimed FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D. "The FDA's approval of the application related to AquAdvantage Salmon followed a comprehensive analysis of the scientific evidence, which determined that the GE Atlantic salmon met the statutory requirements for safety and effectiveness under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act."

AquaBounty Technologies, Inc. said the lifting of the import alert would allow the Company to start farming AquAdvantage Salmon in Indiana.

Shane Bouchard, the Republican mayor of Lewiston, Maine, has resigned, after messages were leaked showing he exchanged racist jokes with a former lover.

During his mayoral campaign in 2017, Bouchard was allegedly having an affair with a local woman, Heather Everly Berube. As well as discussing politics, Bouchard spiced up his text messages to Berube with some light flirting and some full-on racism.

"All my jokes are quite racist lol," he reportedly said in one message, adding: "What do you call 2 old black people sitting on your front lawn."

"Antique farm equipment," his 'punchline' followed.

Indian government bans import of solid plastic waste

garbage heap
Taking an important step towards tackling the menace of plastic waste in India, the government has completely banned import of solid plastic waste/scrap into the country. India generates 25,940 tonnes of plastic waste every day.

Earlier, such import was partly banned as India did not prohibit it in special economic zones (SEZ). Besides, import of plastic waste/scrap was also allowed by export oriented units (EOUs) which used to procure it from abroad as post-recycling resources.

"The country has now completely prohibited the import of solid plastic waste by amending the Hazardous Waste (Management & Trans-boundary Movement) Rules on March 1," an environment ministry official said.

He said the rules were amended keeping in view the huge gap between waste generation and recycling capacity in the country and also India's commitment to completely phase out single-use plastic by 2022.

After being banned by China a few years ago, India had emerged as one of the world's largest importers of plastic waste. The provision of partial ban was misused by many companies on the pretext of being in an SEZ.

Surveillance video on a Martin County school bus shows a bus aide yelling at a student to take off a "Make America Great Again" cap, then grabbing it off of his head.

Now, the Martin County Sheriff's Office is investigating whether the bus aide committed a crime.

According to Gunnar Johansson, 14, students were allowed to wear a hat to school this week if they made a donation to March of Dimes.

He decided to wear a Make America Great Again hat in support of President Donald Trump and "to show my pride in Trump America," Johansson said.

Within seconds of boarding a bus to Hidden Oaks Middle School, a bus aide told him to remove the hat and put it in his backpack..

Comment: The bus aide has since apologized:

Transgender cyclist and professor says excluding men from women's sports is like excluding black women

'It's obviously transphobic'

Rachel McKinnon is a biologically male women's cycling champion. The white philosopher's next challenge is successfully playing the race card.

The College of Charleston professor, a prolific digital-mob leader, has been active in trying to marginalize women who believe that men who identify as women should not be allowed to participate in women's sports.

One of the recent victims is the tennis great Martina Navratilova, an early public lesbian who was booted by an LGBTQ athletic organization for saying that men who "decide to be female" are "cheating" in women's sports. Former British swimmer Sharron Davies is the next target of McKinnon for similar sentiments.

As noted by Red State's Sister Toldjah this week, McKinnon is claiming that women who want women's sports to be limited to women are the functional equivalent of racists:
