Democrats threaten boycott of Starbucks after frmr CEO Schultz considers running as independent in 2020 presidential race

Howard Schultz presidential bid

Schultz is facing backlash from both establishment Democrats and the wider left-wing camp after he told 60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley on Sunday that he was “seriously thinking of running for president as a centrist independent.”
Democrats have ganged up on former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, threatening to make him a "target" and ditch their morning coffee amid fears he can chip away at portions of Democratic with an independent 2020 presidential bid.

Schultz is facing backlash from both establishment Democrats and the wider left-wing camp after he told 60 Minutes' Scott Pelley on Sunday that he was "seriously thinking of running for president as a centrist independent." Schultz, a lifelong Democrat, has thrown his weight behind many anti-Trump causes - such as hiring 10,000 refugees in response to President Donald Trump's "Muslim ban". But the announcement has ruffled feathers with many in the anti-Trump crowd, who have now turned against him.

Justifying his decision, Schultz said that he believes that the both major parties are "consistently not doing what's necessary on behalf of the American people" and have instead become well-versed in "revenge politics."

He argued that the partial government shutdown that cost the US economy a mind-boggling $11 million according to one estimate - almost double the cost of Trump's proposed border wall - is "a reckless failure" of both the GOP and the Democrats.

Comment: As those in the Democratic party have already demonstrated, they will go to any lengths to defend their turf.

Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV) welcomes news that Beth Oloth Charitable Organization has had its tax-deductible status revoked by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

According to a Global News story published this morning, Beth Oloth had been funding activities deemed non-charitable under Canadian law, including those that increase "the efficiency and effectiveness of the Israeli armed forces." The organization had also been funding Israeli projects in the occupied Palestinian territory, which the CRA has noted runs contrary to Canada's policy on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"Well-meaning donors to Jewish community foundations may be surprised to learn that they have been funding illegal Israeli settlement activity," said Rabbi David Mivasair of Hamilton, Ontario. "The CRA doing its job and removing Beth Oloth's illegitimate charitable status strengthens our confidence that our generosity is not being abused."

How the West has weaponized the refugees it creates

The only thing more sinister than intentionally creating refugees, is weaponizing them as leverage to further coerce nations and advance hegemonic ambitions.

The United States and its allies have done both extensively - from exploiting the flow of refugees fleeing US-led wars in Libya and Syria - to the cynical exploitation of high-profile cases like Rahaf al-Qunun of Saudi Arabia and Hakeem al-Araibi of Bahrain - both of whom are fleeing autocratic regimes armed and propped up exclusively by the West.

In addition to creating the conditions ensuring a steady stream of refugees - the West has assembled an army of faux-rights advocates - most notably Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International to shift blame from those responsible for the creation of refugees to those saddled with growing numbers of people seeking refuge within their borders.

Thirty families have blamed social media for provoking their children's suicides as it emerged Pinterest sent tragic Molly Russell a personalized email containing images of self-harm.

Molly, 14, of Harrow, north west London, was found dead in her bedroom in November 2017 after showing 'no obvious signs' of severe mental health issues.

Her family later found she had been viewing material on social media linked to anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicide.

The teenager's father has now criticized Pinterest, alongside Instagram, for hosting 'harmful' images he said may have played a part in her death.

How humans get in the way of clean water

There are many cheap and effective ways to provide safe water to the world's poor regions. But projects often fail due to inadequate planning, maintenance or persuasive power

For more than 2 billion people, safe drinking water isn't a given. Not for them a clean, reliable supply of treated water splurting out on demand from a kitchen tap - instead, they face often long treks to wells, rivers, pools of rainwater or faucets that yield water laced with disease-transmitting feces and other contaminants.

More than 500,000 deaths a year from diarrhea are linked to this very basic lack, and public health officials, philanthropic groups and researchers have worked to move the needle on the problem for decades.

So enthusiasm soared in the early 2000s for a new and compellingly simple approach. Instead of waiting for governments to act, or for projects that progressed at a snail's pace, what if villages and households were empowered to clean water themselves? A slew of cheap and easy technologies were available for the job.

A Sundance documentary ostensibly about the 1961 plane crash which killed then UN Secretary-General, Dag Hammarskjöld, contains explosive claims of a conspiracy to spread HIV among South Africa's black population.

Directed by controversial Danish journalist, filmmaker, and provocateur Mads Brügger, Cold Case Hammarskjöld, debuted Saturday at the Sundance Film Festival.

It details an investigation into the largely unsolved death of Swedish diplomat and former UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, whose DC-6 plane crashed near Ndola, Northern Rhodesia (modern Zambia). Initial investigations identified the cause as pilot error or mere mechanical fault, though doubts have persisted in the 50+ years since the crash.

Throughout the course of the new documentary, Brügger and his team investigate a white militia, the South African Institute for Maritime Research (SAIMR). According to documents the filmmakers uncovered, the group operated with support from the CIA and British Intelligence and orchestrated the 1961 plane crash which killed Hammarskjöld. The documentarians eventually encounter and interview a man named Alexander Jones who is allegedly a former member of the group.

Comment: The AIDs experimentation in Africa theory has surfaced many times without conclusion. Conspiracy or truth? Anything is possible. Everything can be denied.

Duke University professor to students: Don't speak Chinese

Duke University
A Duke University Professor sent an email to students on Friday asking them to refrain from speaking Chinese in school buildings in order to prevent "unintended consequences." Megan Lee Neely, an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics and Director of Graduate Studies of the department, sent the email in response to two faculty members allegedly coming to her in order to find out the names of students they heard speaking loudly in Chinese in the student lounge and study areas.

Neely provided the faculty members with photos of the students taken during orientation. According to her email, Neely was told by the faculty that they "wanted to write down the names so they could remember them if the students ever interviewed for an internship or asked to work with them for a master's project." Neely went on to relay that the two unnamed faculty members were disappointed that the students "were not taking the opportunity to improve their English." Neely then urged international students to "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep these unintended consequences in mind when you chose to speak Chinese in the building."

Comment: We have become a society of heightened sensitivities, polarization and persecution - not unlike certain times in the past that resulted in dire circumstances for the unsuspecting 'offender'.

Political catchwords disable debate and demonize opposition

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Empty catchwords reveal a mind that's unwilling to analyze and debate.

In this era when there has been more information available to more people than at any time in the past, it is also true that there has been more misinformation from more different sources than ever. We are not talking about differences of opinion or inadequate verification, but about statements and catchwords in utter defiance of facts.

Among the most popular current catchwords are "climate change deniers." Stop and think. Have you ever - even once in your entire life - seen, heard or read even one human being who denied that climates change?

Denmark hopes 43-mile fence along German frontier will save its bacon, prevent African swine fever

Wild boar
Denmark began constructing a 43-mile fence along its border with Germany on Monday - but the new barrier is not the latest bulwark in Fortress Europe's defenses against migrants.

The metal fence, which will be only five feet high, is intended to keep out wild boar.

Denmark and Germany are both members of the Schengen Area, and there are no border formalities between the two countries. But the right to border-free travel does not extend to wild boar.

The Danish government says it is building the fence to prevent African swine fever ever crossing the border and decimating the country's bacon industry.
