'Nobody is panicking!' Rachel Maddow sheds 500,000 viewers in post-Mueller slump

After putting all its eggs in the Russiagate conspiracy-theory 'basket' only to be let down by the contents (or lack thereof) of the Mueller report, MSNBC - and its top attraction, Rachel Maddow - are hemorrhaging viewers.

Russian-collusion high priestess Rachel Maddow's nightly news show has slipped from number one in cable news to number six since Special Counsel Robert Mueller turned in his report on Friday, hemorrhaging half a million viewers in the space of a week. An MSNBC insider spilled the beans to the Daily Beast, assuring them that no one at the network was panicking.

"It was obviously a big couple of nights for Fox," they said. MSNBC's second-top-rated program, 'The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell,' was also down half a million pairs of eyes.

Comment: Here's a little bit more on the numbers from the New York Post:
Rachel Maddow's audience plummeted 19 percent since the Justice Department announced the special counsel investigation turned up no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The MSNBC host drew an audience of 2.5 million viewers on Monday, the day after Attorney General William Barr's announcement - down 19 percent from her average this year.

On Tuesday, her audience dwindled further to 2.3 million, the Nielsen company said.

Massachusetts AG issues 'Rollins Memo': Freezes out ICE, confirms no-prosecution list

Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins is ordering her staff to be on the lookout for federal ICE agents in or around courthouses, telling them to "immediately notify" her if the feds are looking for illegal immigrants in court.

It's part of "The Rollins Memo" - a 65-page policy blueprint released Monday to staffers that also doubles down on her controversial no-prosecute list and details how she wants suspects, victims, cops and federal agents to be treated. Jail, she states throughout the memo, should not be the first option in many cases - not prosecuting certain crimes, she said, is a "default" position.

"I don't believe accountability has to equal incarceration. There are many ways we can hold people accountable without putting them in jail," Rollins writes, according to the policy paper obtained by the Herald and later made public by the DA Monday.

Comment: "Collateral consequences"? Isn't that what's supposed to kick in when breaking society's norms? Granted the unjustly accused should not suffer them, though they often do. Shielding a sex offender from being registered, or an offender from losing a job, or scholarship, does neither them nor society any good. But then these are the days of Jussie Smollett.

Footage shows multiple explosions rock city in Ukraine

ukraine explosion
At about 8pm Wednesday night local time a massive blast shook the central Ukrainian city of Kropivnitsky in what is being initially described as a mystery explosion.

Conflicting Ukrainian social media accounts include city residents citing anywhere between four and up to nine blasts, with initial reports of an electrical blackout in the city.

Among the locations where explosions and a fire were observed in Kropivnitsky, which is the administrative center of the Kirovohrad Oblast, was at a local gas station which may have held fuel storage tanks.

Comment: The cause of these explosions remains to be seen but there are certainly a number of possible perpetrators given the instability and corruption plaguing Ukraine these days:

Fairground workers riot in French city of Le Mans

Masked fairground workers faced off with police
Clashes have erupted at a protest by fairground workers in the French city of Le Mans, who are demanding the right to set up stall in the town centre.

Police pushed back hundreds of demonstrators as rioters targeted the city hall, where staff were evacuated. There are reports of injuries.

Rioters pushed a burning caravan at police who fired rubber pellet grenades into the crowd, French media say.

At one point protesters occupied the city's railway station.

The violence broke out on the fourth day of protests against a decision by the mayor, Stéphane Le Foll, to move their fairground away from the city centre. Fairground workers accuse the city authorities of discrimination.

Comment: The article doesn't tell us whether or not the mayor's decision was backed by the majority of people in the area because if people don't want this entertainment in their town centre, they have every right to refuse their business. However the Yellow Vest's, who this article compares them to, do enjoy support from the majority in France, and therefore any comparison to them is likely inaccurate.

18 statistics that demonstrate how America is indeed an "Idiocracy"

idiocracy
What in the world has happened to us? Once upon a time, America had the greatest system of education on the entire planet, and our people were sharp, capable and extremely well informed. Sadly, none of those things are true anymore. In 2006, Mike Judge made a movie entitled "Idiocracy" in which an individual of below average intelligence wakes up after being asleep for 500 years thanks to a military hibernation experiment. When he wakes up, he quickly realizes that he is now the smartest man in America, and that is not a good thing. The film became an instant classic, but when I originally watched it I thought that such a thing could never actually happen in this country. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Since 2006 our nation has been "dumbed down" at a pace that is absolutely staggering, and it is difficult to see a positive future for America if this trend continues.

The following are 18 statistics that prove that America has become an "idiocracy"...

All new UK cars to have speed limiters by 2022 under EU rules

Speed-limiting devices and automatic emergency braking will be mandatory if the proposal is ratified.
All new cars sold in the UK and Europe are to be fitted with devices to automatically stop drivers exceeding the speed limit under sweeping changes to vehicle safety rules that the EU has provisionally agreed.

Although Britain may no longer be part of the EU when the rules come into effect, the UK regulator, the Vehicle Certification Agency, has said it will mirror safety standards for vehicles in the UK.

The speed limiter is one of a range of safety features to be made mandatory from 2022, along with automated emergency braking, electronic data recorders and improved visibility built into lorries for drivers to see vulnerable cyclists and pedestrians around the vehicle.

Safety campaigners described the move as one of the biggest leaps forward in 50 years and said it could save 25,000 lives by 2037.

The package of measures needs to be ratified by the European parliament, which is likely by September.

Vicious left-wing attack dog SPLC, which frequently targets conservatives, reels from harassment, intolerance claims

Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)
Amid a departure of top executives at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a new report details allegations of sexual misconduct and racial discrimination against those very individuals at the progressive nonprofit which frequently has targeted conservative groups.

A report from the New York Times on Monday detailed several complaints by both current and former employees that indicated a "climate of intolerance" in the workplace -- complaints including sexual harassment and a lack of diversity based on race and gender.

In recent years, the center has drawn criticism from Republicans and conservatives who have accused the SPLC of unfairly labeling people and groups with conservative viewpoints as bigots. Republican lawmakers have also questioned the working relationship between the SPLC and the FBI.

New Zealand mosque leader enrages Jews: Blames Mossad for Christchurch attack

Agroup called Love Aotearoa Hate Racism organised a rally for the victims in Auckland's Aotea Square.
"I am not afraid to say I feel Mossad is behind this."

On Saturday, a group called Love Aotearoa Hate Racism organised a rally for the victims in Auckland's Aotea Square.

Ahmed Bhamji, chairman of the Mt Roskill Masjid E Umar, gave a speech questioning where the gunman got his funding from. He said he suspected it came from "Mossad" and "Zionist business".

Mossad is the foreign intelligence agency of Israel responsible for covert operations, intelligence gathering and counterterrorism.

"I really want to say one thing today. Do you think this guy was alone... I want to ask you - where did he get the funding from?" he can be heard saying in video footage.

Comment: There are plenty of strange circumstances surrounding the attack on the Christchurch mosque. There were several gunmen, but they have disappeared from mainstream media reporting. The leader had no visible means of support and a strange travel history to boot. All of that just might lead to wondering about an intelligence operation. As a bonus to the local elite, repressive policies have become more acceptable in New Zealand in the wake of the shooting: Human Rights Watch gets involved:
HRC has called out Bhamji for his statements, saying it's important to "give nothing to racism".

"Prejudice against Jewish people has no place in New Zealand," it tweeted. "We must condemn racism, hate and anti-Semitism whenever we see it."

They're not the only ones disappointed; many Muslims say these views have no place at a time when New Zealand's Jewish and Islamic communities have been coming together to support each other.

Lawyer and White Ribbon ambassador Umar Abdul Kuddus said Bhamji's speech was "absolutely absurd and unacceptable".

"I am horrified and offended that the chairman made these ridiculous and hurtful comments towards the Jewish community," he wrote on Facebook.

"I was on the ground in Christchurch and I saw Rabbis and Jewish community leaders coming to support and pray with us for the victims and their families.

"I feel embarrassed that this individual is seen as a representative of my community when in fact he represents no one person of the Muslim community but for his own unacceptable views."

Kuddus' powerful message has won applause from the community, who say Bhamji doesn't represent them.

"The Jewish community has been so forthcoming with its support. Hate speeches like that has no place here regardless of one's position," one person said.

"What a waste of an opportunity to spread the message of peace, love, support and true reflection of our Muslim community," another commented.

A newly formed migrant caravan of more than 2,500 departed the southern Mexican border in Chiapas Saturday and is now traveling north for the U.S.

The group formed in Tapachula, Chiapas, over several weeks and is labeled the first Central American-Caribbean caravan since it includes a large number of Cubans.

The caravan departed Saturday morning at approximately 4:30 am. They spent the first night in the town of Huehuetán and later the outskirts of Huixtla. The caravan planned to reach Mapastepec by Monday, which would total approximately 65 miles since their departure on Saturday morning.

According to numbers released by Mexican immigration officials, the caravan consists of 1,199 Hondurans, 764 Salvadorans, 300 Guatemalans, 176 Nicaraguans, and 85 Cubans. Some expect the Cuban cohort to swell to 600 after immigration officials suspended the issuance of one-year humanitarian visas.
