Why is disgraced MI6 author of the dodgy Trump-Russia dossier involved in a controversial group seeking harsh Covid restrictions?

Christopher Steele, a former British spy who wrote a 2016 dossier about alleged links between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, leaves the High Court in London following a hearing in the libel case brought against him by Russian businessman Aleksej Gubarev.
Christopher Steele, the ex-MI6 spy, is involved in the 'parent' organisation called Independent SAGE - a collective that regularly criticizes the UK government for not introducing tougher measures to achieve 'Zero Covid.'

On July 17, The Daily Telegraph brought to public attention that Independent SAGE, the highly controversial scientist collective advocating for excessively harsh coronavirus restrictions, was the creation of The Citizens, a shadowy campaign organization led by Guardian journalist Carole Cadwalladr.

In response, Cadwalladr took to Twitter to rubbish the "scoop," noting that the connection between the two groups had been acknowledged on Independent SAGE's website for 17 months - which is true, although the scientist collective seems very much keen to downplay it, merely referring to The Citizens as "a small support team" helping with public events and media activities.

Cleveland's baseball team has changed its name from the Indians to the Guardians. Critics have long called the old name racist, but the rebrand is now dividing fans.

The team announced the change on Friday, releasing a slick video in which actor Tom Hanks declares "we are all Guardians." The name itself is a reference to a pair of Art Deco statues located on the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge between downtown Cleveland and the Ohio City neighborhood, known as the Guardians of Traffic.

The Pentagon on Wednesday denied it "secured the services" of Moonshot CVE, an extremism analysis company that considers the web search "the truth about Black Lives Matter" and others to be signs of interest in or engagement with White supremacism.

Defense One reported last month that Moonshot CVE, which has ties to the Obama Foundation, was working on data that would identify which military bases and branches had the most troops searching for domestic extremist content. While that particular project's contours were unclear, the company had released a June report, in conjunction with the left-leaning Anti-Defamation League, on purported "White supremacy trends in the United States."

I have just been handed my second stint in the Social Media Outer Darkness by the Twitter Totalitarians. The first was because I told the truth about the experimental gene therapies masquerading as vaccines, particularly the fact that they have not completed the clinical trials (which they haven't), and that they are causing a huge amount of adverse reactions and deaths (which they are). On that occasion I was slapped on the wrist for 12 hours, but this time — presumably to teach me a lesson good and proper — the sentence has been increased to a whole week. Will it be the death sentence next?

And the crime m'lud? This was the Tweet that did it:
"The "Covid emergency" is a manufactured crisis, held up by 2 monumental lies: Asymptomatic Transmission + Fraudulent PCR Tests. The "Pingdemic" is thus part of the same manufactured crisis. Remember that when you struggle to put food on the table."
Bearing in mind that they allow all sorts of scandalous, libelous, hateful content on their platform, which part of this in particular did the Twitter Totalitarians think was unpalatable? Note that I did not dispute the existence of a respiratory illness, which has proved deadly to some people. What I did was to state that a "crisis" was manufactured, chiefly by the use of two falsehoods, one being the claim that healthy people with no symptoms transmit the illness to others, and the other that the RT-PCR test can diagnose infection.

Two Covid vaccination centers vandalized in France

More than 100,000 people protested against the French government's new coronavirus measures at the weekend
Two vaccination centres have been ransacked in France, as people protested against the introduction of tougher coronavirus rules.

One site in south-east France was vandalised and flooded using fire hoses on Friday night, authorities said.

A day later, another clinic in the south-west was partially destroyed by an arson attack, local media reported.

The incidents came on a weekend of demonstrations. More than 100,000 came out to protest on Saturday.

Critics have accused President Emmanuel Macron's government of violating freedoms by introducing new rules.

The most controversial of the rules include mandatory vaccinations for health workers and health passes to access most public places.

Anti-vaccine graffiti was found near a vandalised vaccination centre in Lans-en-Vercors near the south-eastern city of Grenoble. Saturday's arson attack targeted a clinic in the village of Urrugne near Biarritz in the south-west.

The protests in Khuzestan come as Iran struggles through another wave of the coronavirus pandemic and the economy suffers under U.S. sanctions.
An Iranian police officer was killed in the southwestern province of Khuzestan during the sixth consecutive night of protests over severe water shortages, raising the official death toll in the unrest to three.

State-run broadcaster IRIB quoted a local official in the port city of Bandar Mahshahr, Fereydoun Bandari, as saying on July 21 that the officer was killed by gunfire in the city overnight, while another policeman sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

State media blamed "rioters" for the killing.

Pennsylvania officials have decertified voting machines in Fulton County after they were subjected to an audit following the 2020 presidential election.

In a letter to the Fulton County Board of Elections, Acting Secretary of State Veronica Degraffenreid said that the Dominion voting machines would be decertified after being audited by software company Wake TSI.

The company was contracted following a request from Republican State Sen. Doug Mastriano and from Fulton County election officials, The Hill reported. County officials allowed Wake TSI to access certain components of their election system, including their "election database, results files, and Windows system logs."

The county also allowed the company to use a "system imaging tool to take complete hard drive images of these computers" and "complete images of two USB thumb drives" used to transfer election results.

US government pumps $200M into Aspen vaccine plant in Gqeberha, South Africa

The US government will pump $200 million dollars into the Aspen Pharmaceutical plant in Gqeberha to expand its Johnson & Johnson vaccine production for Africa.

Acting US Consul-General Will Stevens announced the major investment in an email to the Eastern Cape government, which News24 had seen.

The Aspen Pharmacare Covid-19 sterile manufacturing facility, in Gqeberha, was currently manufacturing 220 million doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine for African countries. In March, President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed that the number of doses to be produced for the continent would, at a later stage, increase to 400 million. The South African government had placed an initial order of 30 million doses for its citizens.

The production of the vaccines at the plant formed part of the partnership between government and the private sector in the national vaccination programme.

Comment: Buyer beware! If the US is investing in this facility, it has something else in mind. Vaccines have not treated Africa kindly in the past.

Investigators in Moscow have filed charges against a number of doctors at a medical center in the Russian capital, alleging that they ran a secret off-the-books scheme to sell almost a dozen babies from the clinic to shadowy men.

A lawyer representing the doctors, one of whom is the head of the reproductive health facility, outlined the accusations his clients are facing in comments to TASS on Friday. "According to the final accusation, the defendants in the case are charged with 11 episodes of the sale of children, of which eight, according to the investigation, have been completed, and in three cases they allegedly failed to complete the crime."

"As the investigators established, under the guise of infertility treatment, the accused made illegal use of assisted reproductive technologies and, in exchange for a reward, handed over the children to the buyers, violating the foundations of law and order and morality," he said.

Comment: It brings to mind the ban on foreign adoptions Putin instituted in 2012 following a number of high profile human trafficking cases:

Some of our readers may have noticed a couple of days ago that our post entitled "The BBC versus Trump" (not, for the sake of clarity, the full article of the same name by Freddie Attenborough) elicited an excited reaction from their web browser: the "red screen of death". Google had decided that our website was doing something nefarious, and even though they couldn't quite manage to be specific about what it was - and even though they sent me an email alert (thanks!) - neverthless when I loaded their helpful webpage and dug in to to the details they only told me that the reason was "N/A". They suggested we were possibly running a phishing scam, or maybe running malware... they couldn't be precise, but they made certain that our readers knew about it. Nice of them.

But besides making it very difficult for our readers to view our website (or at least, that particular page), the repercussions included the inability to forward our email newsletter to others, the inability to post links on other sites - a reader couldn't post a link to the site under an article in the Times, for instance - and even (comically, at least to me) anti-virus alerts from McAfee. All very troubling to a webmaster, I'm sure. But I knew from the moment I got the email alert from Google that it was almost certainly bunk.
