Man of conscience: An Israeli speaks for many when he addresses Iranian students and revolutionary guard cadets on what he hopes for

Regardless of how much demonizing goes on, regardless of how many times one reads that the "other" is evil, bloodthirsty and may be committed to terrorism, people's compassion comes through at moments like this, and here it did not fail.

Yazd, Iran - As I looked at the two hundred or so young cadets sitting on the floor of the prayer hall, all I could think of were my two boys, Eitan and Doron, who are about the same age as they. The previous day I visited the families of Iranian martyrs, boys who fell during the protracted war between Iran and Iraq. And while giving one's life in the service of one's country is often seen as a great honor, I do not share that feeling at all. So all I could say as I began my remarks was that, seeing how they are about the same age as my own boys, I wish for them and their families that they will not be martyrs but return home safe as soon as their service was over.

The Revolutionary Guard base in Yazd is right off the main road. I was informed the night before that I was to deliver a 7:30 a.m. lecture but no details were provided. That morning, as we were driving, I was told that I would need to leave my camera and phone behind because we were entering a military base. Then they told me that I would be speaking in front of cadets of the famed Iranian Revolutionary Guards, known in Iran as the "Sebah." I entered the prayer hall, accompanied by a translator and several reporters who escorted me throughout the trip, and we were greeted and led to a seat with a microphone. About 10 rows of young men seated 20-across were on the floor with their legs crossed and another hundred or so people in civilian clothes who were seated along the walls of the large hall.

Comment: Though Miko Peled speaks for many who see the pathological Israeli mindset for what it is, and works to address it, there are all too few with his knowledge, experience and fortitude to come out and say and do what he is.

Vladimir Putin has described his Chinese President Xi Jinping as a "reliable partner and good friend," striving for the good of his people. They even celebrated Putin's birthday together once, by having a shot of vodka, naturally.

Russia's president shared his thoughts on the special relationship with China's leader in an exclusive interview with the China Media Group.

Liberals (Once Again) exempt themselves from the rules

Samantha Bee
Imagine a scenario in which a woman posts a picture of herself with her son and people simply appreciate the expression of parental love. Sounds nice, and rational, doesn't it? Unfortunately, thanks to the liberal mob, nice and rational no longer exist in the public arena. Rather than enjoy it or ignore it, Ivanka Trump committing the simple act of posting a picture with her son set off a series of unhinged political commentary and attacks that culminated in the use of a slur that is more likely to get you slapped by a woman than setting them up on a blind date with Harvey Weinstein would. And liberal elites rushing to defend it.

It wouldn't work as a piece of fiction, no one would believe it. Yet this is where the political left has led their angry mob, or their angry mob has led the political left. It's an irrelevant "chicken and egg" scenario, because however they got there, that is where they are now.

I couldn't care less what causes liberals to clutch their collective pearls, especially since they've done it so much in the past 2 years their fingers seem to have fused to them like a fat guy who grew into his couch. My problem comes when they insist their will, their reaction to a seemingly endless stream of "outrages," must be addressed by everyone else.

Homeschooling skyrockets in the US - and the reasons are many

school hallway
Thanks to the incessant Left-wing counter-culture social engineering and increasing levels of violence and bullying, more American parents are pulling their kids out of failing government schools and teaching them at home.

As reported by The Washington Times, the recent school shooting at Parkland, Fla., was the last straw for scores of parents. The paper noted that "the phones started ringing at the Texas Home School Coalition, and they haven't stopped yet."

The Times added:

The Lubbock-based organization has been swamped with inquiries for months from parents seeking safer options for their kids in the aftermath of this year's deadly school massacres, first in Parkland and then in Santa Fe, Texas.
"When the Parkland shooting happened, our phone calls and emails exploded," said coalition president Tim Lambert. "In the last couple of months, our numbers have doubled. We're dealing with probably between 1,200 and 1,400 calls and emails per month, and prior to that it was 600 to 700."

Survey: Americans are hit with 'news fatigue' in the Trump era

© AFP Photo/Drew AngereMore Americans are expressing feelings of "news fatigue," with higher levels among Republicans and those who say the media isn't doing a good job.
Americans are becoming increasing exhausted by the avalanche of news -- even more so than during the 2016 presidential election, a survey showed Tuesday.

The Pew Research Center survey showed 68 percent of respondents feel "worn out" by the amount of news they are seeing, compared with only 30 percent who say they like the amount of information they get.

The percentage suffering from information overload is higher than the 59 percent in a similar survey during the 2016 election, Pew found.

More Republicans than Democrats expressed feelings of news exhaustion, and levels were higher among those with an unfavorable view of the media.

The survey of 5,035 adults conducted from February 22 to March 4 found that 77 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents expressed feelings of news exhaustion, compared with 61 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents.

Comment: With the mainstream media's reputation for pushing fake news it's no wonder Americans are 'fatigued'.

Polk County detectives arrested 11 men during their latest undercover child pornography investigation.

"Operation Guardians of Innocence II" focused on identifying and arresting those involved in the possession, promotion, and distribution of child pornography.

A total of 660 felony charges were filed against the suspects and more charges are pending.

A former Walt Disney employee, lego builder and Boy Scout parent helper were among the 11 arrested.

"As you know, this is just the beginning - once we serve search warrants and seize the devices that these suspects are using to download and distribute pornography, we will do a complete forensic analysis, and in all likelihood we will be adding on more charges related to the felony possession and distribution of images and videos of children being sexually battered. Most of the images we saw during this investigation depicted children being sexually battered, that we have seen before - which means we haven't yet identified any local child victims, but as always, that is also a part of our investigation" said Sheriff Grady Judd.

US continues its legacy of torture in Yemen as Congress probes military

us torture
Revelations on the use of torture by US intelligence personnel during the George W Bush presidency have been described as one of the "darkest chapters" in US history.

Not only did it erode whatever moral authority the US claimed to have had during the first decade of the "War on Terror," but the egregious mistreatment of Iraqi detainees at Abu Ghraib and Camp Bucca also helped to give birth to the self-proclaimed Islamic State and to re-energise the global jihad movement.

You'd be mistaken, however, if you believed this nefarious chapter in US history started and ended with the Bush administration - and given that the Republican-controlled Congress has voted to probe whether US troops resorted to torture as part of their interrogation of prisoners in Yemen, you can be sure there is still much to learn.

Simon Cowell got a boost in his mental health by ditching his smartphone

Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell has confessed he has not used his mobile phone in 10 months for the sake of his 'mental health and happiness'
His phone book is crammed with numbers of the rich and famous.

But if any of the A-listers try to call Simon Cowell, he won't answer - because his mobile is off. And it has been for ten months.

In an astonishing confession, the television mogul revealed he had become so distracted and irritated by his phone that he made himself uncontactable for the sake of his mental health and happiness.

He told The Mail on Sunday: 'I literally have not been on my phone for ten months.

'The difference it made was that I became more aware of the people around me and way more focused.

'The thing I get irritated with is when you have a meeting everyone's on their phone - and I was probably in that place too. You can't concentrate.

Comment: Simon Cowell is on to something. Overuse of smartphones is detrimental to health.

Haitian people's movements protest against neoliberal financial policies

haiti people's protest
On the morning of May 25th, a large group of people's organizations of Haiti mobilized in the capital, Puerto Principe, demanding the fulfillment of an extension agenda of demands from the State and the president Jovenel Moïse.

The mobilization was called by an platform known as "January 22nd Movement", that unites various sectors such as unions, peasants, students and urban fringes. The organizations also participate in the continental and global platforms: ALBA Movimientos and Vía Campesina.

The gathering took place in Chal Sounè, the central point of the city, where the ministries of Finance, Justice and Social Issues, and the Car Insurance Office against Third Parties (OAVCT) are situated. The protesters exhibited posters of rejection to International Monetary Fund (IMF) and protested against the government's attempt to increase fuel prices. An explicit order from government's financial entity is there behind these policies, which for years has been practicing a guardian role in the economy of this small island nation.

UN publishes a scathing report on poverty in the US; they mostly blame Trump

Philip Alston
© TONY KARUMBA/AFP/Getty ImagesUN special rapporteur Philip Alston addresses a press conference at UN headquarters in Nairobi on February 25, 2009.
The United Nations has released a scathing report on poverty and inequality in the United States. The findings, which will be presented to the U.N. Human Rights Council on June 21, follow an official visit to the United States by Philip Alston, the U.N. special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, to investigate whether economic insecurity in the country undermines human rights.

The conclusions are damning. "The United States already leads the developed world in income and wealth inequality, and it is now moving full steam ahead to make itself even more unequal," the report concludes. "High child and youth poverty rates perpetuate the intergenerational transmission of poverty very effectively, and ensure that the American dream is rapidly becoming the American illusion."

The U.N. explicitly lays blame with the Trump administration for policies that actively increase poverty and inequality in the country. "The $1.5 trillion in tax cuts in December 2017 overwhelmingly benefited the wealthy and worsened inequality. The consequences of neglecting poverty and promoting inequality are clear," it concludes. "The policies pursued over the past year seem deliberately designed to remove basic protections from the poorest, punish those who are not in employment and make even basic health care into a privilege to be earned rather than a right of citizenship."

In December, Alston visited seven locations throughout the country-ranging from Los Angeles's Skid Row neighborhood to rural Alabama, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico-to meet with people experiencing deep poverty, along with experts and civil society groups.
