A Melbourne street artist who was threatened with a council fine over a provocative mural he painted of US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has responded by covering her image with a niqab.

Maribyrnong council took issue with the original mural, which depicted Clinton wearing a revealing swimsuit with $100 notes tucked into it. The council said residents complained about the piece, which was painted on to the side wall of a scooter shop in Footscray, 5km west of Melbourne.

In a statement, the council said the mural contravened its gender equity policy.

"We believe that this mural is offensive because of the depiction of a near-naked woman, not on the basis of disrespect to Hillary Clinton, and it is not in keeping with our stance on gender equity," the council chief executive, Stephen Wall, said.

Comment: Offensive? Possibly. A truthful representation of Hillary being a political whore who offers her services to the highest bidder? Certainly.

Thousands of Brazilians hold rallies overshadowing upcoming Rio Olympics

Protest Rio

For Brazilians, the clamor of the imminent Rio Olympics is somewhat overshadowed by rallies protesting the biggest political corruption scandal in decades, as they call for the president's impeachment and for the former leader to stand trial.

Brazil is just days away from Rio 2016, but already two of its biggest cities have been overrun by tens of thousands of protesters enraged by the state of affairs that sees their country accommodating one of the most expensive events in history, while millions continue living in poverty. By mid-June it became clear that Brazil was facing Olympics-related financial shortages - something the government referred to as "a state of calamity."

But just five days before the games kick off, people are out for seemingly opposing reasons, with pockets of pro-government rallies reported in some places, including Sao Paulo.

Amid the poverty and squalor of Rio's favelas, and rampant crime, former President Dilma Rousseff has been embroiled in a colossal scandal over spending. Protesters want her to be impeached, and for her predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, to also face charges. As if that wasn't enough, there are also suspicions that the current interim President Michel Temer may also be corrupt. Thousands clashed with police in early June over this issue. Many believe it was Temer who orchestrated Rousseff's downfall in order to stifle a corruption probe into Petrobras, the state-owned oil company.

Comment: "President Michel Temer may also be corrupt." There is no "may."

The process to impeach Rousseff could be over within weeks. It is widely suspected to be successful, and be finished by early September. The ex-president has already said she won't be attending the games, while Temer, according to Globo TV, will attend, but realizes he may be publicly shamed.

Currently, Rio and Sao Paulo - two of the largest cities in Brazil - are seeing tens of thousands out on the streets in support of two completely opposing causes.

Comment: Rio Olympics is a global focal point, facilitating organized (infiltrated) rally rousers with a built-in international audience. Given Western unipolar ideology, dismantling Brazil (BRICS) is the real target -- financially and politically. Framing Rousseff and pitting sides against each other, installing corrupt government stooges, the drug testing controversy targeting Russian athletes, fear-mongering warnings of terrorism activity, are all trigger points to a specific end: creating more poverty and civil unrest in Brazil and more submissiveness to Western influence via societal destruction and financial submission.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton to resign after protests called for his firing due to police brutality

New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton will resign Tuesday, a day after protesters called for his ouster, city officials said. He will be replaced by Chief of Department James O'Neill.

On Monday, an all-day demonstrationrun by the Millions March NYC group, a spin-off of the Black Lives Matter movement, vowed to shut down city hall until Mayor Bill de Blasio fired the commissioner. They also protested against police brutality and a justice system that is not race-blind.

Millions March NYC applauded and took credit for Bratton's decision. However, Bratton told de Blasio of his decision to resign on July 8, the two said at a press conference.

When the mayor was asked if the resignation was related to the protests, de Blasio answered that "110 percent it has nothing to do with it."

Police in Pittsburgh have arrested a man who attempted to flush a six-week-old baby down a toilet during a domestic dispute which eventually escalated into a standoff with a SWAT team.

An argument erupted between a man and woman, neither of whom have been named, at their home in the Mount Washington neighborhood of the city at around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, with the man reportedly pulling out a gun during the row. The man also attempted to flush the newborn down the toilet during the altercation. The woman managed to escape the house unharmed shortly after, along with her young child, and alerted the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, however, the man refused to exit the house and a SWAT team was called to handle the standoff. The man remained in the house for around two-and-a-half hours before eventually surrendering.

"Our negotiators worked hard to convince the actor to come out and surrender, which he did eventually. There was no deployment of gas or anything like that," Pittsburgh Public Safety Department spokeswoman Sonya Toler told CBS.

The suspect was arrested and brought to Allegheny County Jail, although the charges he will face are not yet known. The baby was transported to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC but her condition has not been made public, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Comment: Crazy state of human reason gone off the cliff. This woman and her child were very lucky. Kudos to the SWAT team, as well, for acting with reasonable restraint. Not a lot of that going around these days...have you noticed?

FBI employee who leaked 'sensitive' info to China, pleads guilty

After almost 20 years of service with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a 46-year-old Chinese-born electronics technician pleaded guilty to spying for Beijing. Kun Shan Chun told the federal court judge in New York on Monday that he was guilty of sharing sensitive US government information with China.

According to court documents, Kun Shan Chun, a naturalized US citizen, was charged with acting as a Chinese agent between 2011 and 2016. Chun had worked as an electronics technician for the FBI from 1997, where he had top secret security clearance and access to classified government information until his arrest this March.

The prosecution believes that starting from at least 2006, Chun established connections in China, including at least one with a "Chinese Official," which he failed to report to the FBI. In 2011, the 46-year-old started sharing US secrets with the Chinese. "On multiple occasions prior to his arrest in March 2016, Chun collected sensitive FBI information and caused it to be transmitted to Chinese Official-1 and others, while at the same time engaging in a prolonged and concerted effort to conceal from the FBI his illicit relationships with these individuals," the Justice Department said in a statement.

Oil prices crash again signalling bad news for the economy

petrodollar burning
This wasn't supposed to happen. The price of oil was supposed to start going back up, and this would have brought much needed relief to economically-depressed areas of North America that are heavily dependent on the energy industry. Instead, the price of oil is crashing again, and that is really bad news for a U.S. economy that is already mired in the worst "recovery" since 1949. On Monday, U.S. oil was down almost four percent, and for a brief time it actually fell below 40 dollars a barrel. Overall, the price of oil has fallen a staggering 21 percent since June 8th. In less than two months, the "oil rally" that so many were pinning their hopes on has been totally wiped out, and if the price of oil continues to stay this low it is going to have very seriously implications for our economy moving forward.

One of the big reasons why the price of oil has been declining is because the OPEC nations continue to pump oil at very high levels. The following comes from CNBC...

Cops kill suicidal man, claiming he 'lunged' at them

 Javier Garcia Gaona

Javier Garcia Gaona
California cops offered a typical bumbling explanation after video showed them execute a suicidal man holding a knife to his own throat: The man 'lunged' at them.

But bystander cellphone video shows something else, entirely: Several Santa Maria police officers cower behind a patrol car, training their weapons on the man, when โ€” following a half hour of failed negotiations โ€” they abruptly open fire, hitting him multiple times as he falls to the ground.

Javier Garcia Gaona, according to family members quoted by local station KSBY days after the July 20 shooting, did not struggle with mental illness.

"He never had problems with anyone," said brother Armando Garcia. "We were always together and I never saw him offend other people. Plus, he has always lived with my dad; he was never out there on the streets like people say."

Orlando cops dragged by car in botched search for drugs - senseless violence created by the war on drugs

war on drugs fail
Viral video uploaded to Instagram on Saturday shows an arrest gone awry, which โ€” though both the suspect and two officers were lucky to escape with their lives โ€” proves the absolute folly of the State's war on drugs.

Two Orlando bicycle officers were patrolling downtown when they passed by Antwan James Jordan and a friend sitting on the trunk of Jordan's car. Using the alleged odor of marijuana as a reason for the stop, the two cops approached the pair and frisked them for substances the State deems illegal.

According to an arrest report cited by the Orlando Sentinel, one of the officers discovered a baggie containing about nine grams of cocaine in Jordan's front pocket. When the cop tried to remove the stash from the man's pocket, he bolted for the driver's side door โ€” but the two officers then pulled him to the ground.

A coalition of over 50 organizations affiliated with the Black Lives Matter movement has issued a list of demands, calling for reparations for slavery and key criminal justice reforms amid "increasingly visible violence against black communities in the US."

"We demand that the government repair the harms that have been done to black communities in the form of reparations and targeted long-term investments. We also demand a defunding of the systems and institutions that criminalize and cage us," the Movement for Black Lives said in a statement released on Monday, highlighting six demands and 40 policy recommendations.

"The government, responsible corporations and other institutions that have profited off of the harm they have inflicted on black people โ€” from colonialism to slavery through food and housing redlining, mass incarceration, and surveillance โ€” must repair the harm done," the group said, calling for the passage of a bill designed to create a commission to study reparations for descendants of slaves.

The platform demands, among other things, reparations for the "wealth extracted from our communities through environmental racism, slavery, food apartheid, housing discrimination and racialized capitalism" as well as reparations for the "systemic denial of access to high quality educational opportunities in the form of full and free access for all black people (including undocumented and currently and formerly incarcerated people) to lifetime education."

NJ state police go to wrong address, shoot 76yo man armed with shotgun

A mistaken address on a 911 emergency call sent New Jersey state troopers to an isolated home, where an armed elderly man ended up critically hurt from gunshot wounds. A friend of the man said the trooper shot first.

Gerald Sykes saw someone approaching his back door and thought it was an intruder, so the 76-year-old retrieved his shotgun and waited inside. Upon entering the home, a state trooper fired at Sykes several times, according to a friend of the homeowner, Fox News reported.

The friend, Richard Kaser, said that after Sykes was fired upon, he shot his shotgun once before falling down.

Comment: Even if you don't call 911, you still can't be sure the cops won't shoot you. On the subject of 911 and mistaken addresses, the state the technology involved is deplorable:
