Collapse in slow motion: The US Empire spends trillions on war while public health services crumble

Image

Washington escalates its military interventions abroad, launching simultaneous air and ground attacks in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan; multiplying drone attacks in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia; training, arming and financing proxy mercenaries in Jordan, the Gulf States and Iraq; and dispatching National Guard battalions to West Africa, ostensibly to combat the Ebola epidemic, though they lack the most elementary public health capabilities. All in all the US spent $3.5 trillion for military invasions over 6 years.

At the same time, the US domestic public health services have deteriorated. At the state and local level, like Dallas, Texas and at the national level, officials and major institutions demonstrate an inability to effectively detect and manage cases of Ebola infections among the general population in a timely manner. An infected Liberian immigrant was not diagnosed correctly when he presented to a major Dallas hospital emergency room. Instead he received irrelevant and unnecessary 'imaging studies' and was sent home with oral antibiotics. This confirmed the widespread belief that Emergency Room physicians and nurses are under pressure from their administration to order costly CT scans and MRI's on patients as a way to make money for the hospital and to cover-up their incompetence at basic patient history and physical examination. Despite the patient's informing hospital workers of his recent arrival from Liberia, an Ebola outbreak hot-spot, personnel did not put on basic protective gowns, gloves, hoods and masks and they allowed the febrile, vomiting, desperately sick man to contaminate large areas of the emergency department, waiting room and MRI suite. Quarantine was not even considered. . . .

Comment: The US is the greatest danger to itself and the planet. With the arming of lunatics in order to justify destroying their host countries, the US has proven that it has nothing to bring to the bargaining table except a plague of corruption. And the prognosis is not looking very good. As it's stated in the article, "The rise of the BRICS nations has ushered in a new order":
Putin has called for a "new world order," with the aim of stabilizing the globe. He believes the US is abusing its role as global leader. What's not being widely reported is the fact that the pillars of the old order have been crumbing for years.

People revolt in Burkina Faso, psychopathic power struggles ensue

Image

Hundreds of thousands of people in Burkina Faso have forced the longtime imperialist-backed leader, President Blaise Compaore, to resign amid mass demonstrations and rebellions in several cities across the West African country. Compaore took power in a French-supported coup on Oct. 15, 1987 against revolutionary Pan-Africanist and socialist leader Capt. Thomas Sankara.

Several political parties and movements that are seeking to reclaim the legacy of Sankara were very much in evidence during the unrest that reached a critical point on Oct. 30 when thousands stormed the parliament building and setting it alight. The legislative body was set to vote on a motion to extend the 27-year rule of Compaore, who although coming out of the military, ran for office repeatedly as a civilian candidate.

Compaore sought to reassert his authority by refusing to formally resign from the presidency until the evening of Oct. 31. Gen. Honore Traore announced after the rebellion on Oct. 30 that he was assuming power and dissolving parliament.

To avoid sanctions, Burkina Faso's military alleges it will hand over power to civilians

Image

Burkina Faso's military told religious leaders today that it plans to hand over power to civilians to avoid sanctions against the West African nation.

The heads of Catholic, evangelical Christian and Muslim faiths met with Lt. Col. Isaac Zida this morning, the Mogho Naaba, king of the Mossi ethnic group, said in an interview. The king was in the meeting. Zida was appointed as acting president after Blaise Compaore was ousted last week.

"They came to tell us that they intend to hand over power to civilians in order to avoid international sanctions on Burkina," the Mogho Naaba said. "We're asking political parties to agree among each other to end the protests. We're also asking youth to refrain from looting to save our country."

Comment: It looks like the protests for Compaore to step down broke out due to his decision to extend his time in power. But ultimately, to those with real power, it doesn't matter who's in charge as long as no fundamental changes are allowed to occur. This is why Compaore was installed in the first place.

Bodies of 286 women raped and shot dead discovered, 400 listed missing in East Ukraine: Donetsk official

The bodies of 286 women have recently been discovered in the eastern Ukrainian city of Krasnoarmeisk while almost 400 women between the ages of 18 and 25 are still listed as missing, Alexander Zakharchenko, prime minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said Friday.

"Around 400 women between the ages of 18 and 25 have gone missing in Krasnoarmeisk where [Ukrainian forces] Dnepr-1 was based. The bodies of 286 women around Krasnoarmeisk who had been raped have been discovered," Zakharchenko said at a meeting with students from Donetsk National Technical University.

The city of Krasnoarmeisk is located some 45 kilometers (28 miles) northwest of Donetsk, the capital of the self-proclaimed republic.

Comment: In another report we read that these women were later shot dead. Whether we have further confirmation or not, it would behoove us to remember that rape is a war crime and a major component of genocide - something that is definitely happening in Eastern Ukraine. It is a humanitarian disaster which only Russia has sought to relieve. For more information, see:

We look back to the 1940s and we wonder in horror how the Nazis were able to create such a repressive, inhumane and utterly insane system and cause all the destruction and deaths that they did for so long! But someone looking from the future back to our world today, would wonder with the same exact horror, provided that s/he has any conscience.

New hope for 43 missing Mexican students as Iguala's fugitive mayor detained

The detention of the fugitive mayor and his wife, who are suspected of being behind the disappearance of 43 student teachers in the southern Mexican city of Iguala six weeks ago, in coordination with a local drug trafficking gang, has raised hopes that the missing will soon be found.

"This was the missing piece," said Felipe de la Cruz, the father of one of the missing students. "This arrest will help us find our kids. It was the government who took our kids."

Mayor Abarca

Abarca and his wife, María de los Angeles Piñeda, were detained in the early hours of Tuesday in Mexico City by the federal authorities. They were immediately taken to the office of the attorney general for questioning and medical tests.

The government is under enormous pressure to find the students as a first step towards quelling the outrage triggered by the events in Iguala, in the state of Guerrero.

The disappearance of the students has highlighted both the degree of collusion of some local authorities around Mexico with organised crime, as well as federal tolerance of this. There have been numerous large emotional demonstrations demanding more action to find the students, as well as a few violent attacks on government buildings. More protests are planned for this week.

Comment: Mayor Abarca and his wife are publicly accused of being the masterminds behind the violent incidents of September 26, leading to six deaths (so far). More than 13 mass graves have been found since then with 38 still unidentified bodies. The students of the Ayotzinapa Teacher Training College, which is labelled by politicians as a "hotbed" for guerrilla groups, have been harassed by both the local and federal government. The disappearance of the missing 43 has prompted a wave of criticism all over the world against Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto.

New Delhi court overturns rape conviction ruling the victim couldn't be sexually assaulted because 'she was beyond the age of menopause'

Image
The Delhi high court noted in its judgement acquitting an alleged rapist, that sexual intercourse between the accused and the victim, who was "beyond the age of menopause", was "forceful [but] it was not forcible".

A bench comprising justices Pradeep Nandrajog and Mukta Gupta ruled that the absence of the victim's consent for sex was not proved beyond reasonable doubt because even though "forceful penetration is evident from the injuries on the vaginal orifices [...] however, besides the injuries on the vagina there is no other injury mark on the body of the deceased [victim]".

Acquitting the accused Achey Lal, justices Nandrajog and Gupta wrote in the judgement delivered on 30 October:
"Achey Lal even if held guilty for causing the offence of Section 376 IPC cannot be held guilty for offence under Section 302 IPC as he neither had any intention nor knowledge that such a forceful act of sexual intercourse would cause the death of the deceased. Consequently he is acquitted for the offence punishable under Section 302 IPC.

As regards the offence punishable under Section 376 IPC the deceased was aged around 65-70 years, thus beyond the age of menopause. We find force in the contention of the learned counsel for the appellant that even if the sexual intercourse was forceful it was not forcible and contrary to the wishes and consent of the deceased. From the MLC of Achey Lal and the post-mortem of the deceased it is evident that both Achey Lal and deceased had consumed alcohol. The forceful penetration is evident from the injuries on the vaginal orifices. However, besides the injuries on the vagina there is no other injury mark on the body of the deceased or on the appellant to show that there was any protest by the deceased. Hence we are of the opinion that it has not been proved beyond reasonable doubt that the appellant committed sexual intercourse with the deceased contrary to her wishes or her consent.

Consequently the appellant is also acquitted of the charges under Section 376 IPC. The impugned judgment of conviction and order on sentence are set aside."
With this precedent the bench takes a step back from the Mathura rape case in which it was held that there is no requirement of explaining injuries for rape and that consent should be unequivocal, reported DNA India.

Comment: We live in a culture that tends to blame the woman for rape in some way, shape or form. Menopause? That is beyond ridiculous!

Biowarfare? Researchers say current strain of Ebola much more lethal and suggest links to US biowarfare labs

ebola biological warfare
Noted infectious disease experts have said that the current strain of Ebola virus plaguing Africa and slowly spreading in the United States is potentially much more lethal than previous strains identified by virologists.

As reported by Washington's Blog, Dr. Michael Osterholm, the head of the Center for Infection Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, a prominent public health researcher who is nationally recognized, gave a talk in recent days explaining what another top Ebola virologist has found.

During his talk, which was broadcast on C-SPAN, Osterholm said Gary Kobinger, chief of Special Pathogens for Canada's national health agency, has said the current Ebola strain appears to be far worse than any previous strain. He added that Kobinger believes that the current strain could more easily be spread through aerosols than those previously identified as well.

Former police chief will plead guilty to sexually assaulting 4-year-old girl

Image
Andrew Demers
A former Maine State Police chief accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old child is scheduled to change his plea to guilty on Tuesday afternoon to a charge of unlawful sexual contact.

Andrew Demers Jr., 74, of New Gloucester is expected to be sentenced immediately after his plea in the Cumberland County Courthouse in Portland before Justice Thomas Warren at 2 p.m.

Demers' attorney, Walter McKee, and Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson confirmed last month that they had reached a plea agreement, but neither of them would release details other than to say the sentence will be contested.

As part of the plea agreement, the more serious Class A felony charge of gross sexual assault is expected to be dismissed in exchange for Demers' plea to the lesser charge.

Unlawful sexual contact is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Demers could have faced up to 30 years on the Class A felony had he not reached a plea agreement.

Criminalizing kindness: 90-year old homeless advocate in Florida faces 60 days in jail for feeding human beings

Image
Two ministers and a 90-year-old homeless advocate in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, face up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine for violating a city ordinance that effectively outlaws sharing food with homeless people in public.

Homeless advocate Arnold Abbott, head of the group Love Thy Neighbor, has been feeding the homeless for more than 20 years.

Abbott, along with pastors Dwayne Blackand and Mark Sims, were arrested on Sunday after distributing food to the needy on a public sidewalk.

"As contemplated on Sunday, I was arrested for feeding the homeless and received a citation to appear in court," Abbott explained on Facebook. "However, only 4 people were fed before an officer told me to, 'Drop that plate immediately!' As though it were a weapon I was holding, and to go with him to the police car. After a time I was allowed to get the food back on the van and we were able to find a small churches driveway, where we set up, and fed the people who followed us over."

The city commission voted Oct. 22 in favor of an ordinance that limits where outdoor feeding sites can be located, requires the permission of property owners and says the groups have to provide portable toilets, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The law took effect last Friday.

The new ordinance is part of a broader effort to deal with homeless people. The city has also made it illegal to sleep in public places downtown and to beg for money at major intersections. Commissioner Dean Trantalis told WLRN he doesn't think the new laws are mean-spirited, citing services the city also provides.

Comment: Society has become so apathetic on account of the influence and nature of our psychopathic leaders. Homelessness is being criminalized all over the U.S. Cities are passing tyrannical laws against feeding the homeless and their homes are being destroyed. One city has even created a hotline to report their presence. The psychopathic U.S. wastes BILLIONS on endless, bloody wars, but no funds to take care of hungry citizens?

British government 'made an enemy of Anonymous': Million Mask March descends on London

The Million Mask March will course through London on Wednesday November 5. The march, in which all demonstrators obscure their faces to protect their identity, is in protest against austerity, mass surveillance and attacks on human rights.

Organized by the global hacktivist group Anonymous, the London protest will march from Trafalgar Square and finish at the Houses of Parliament.

It is unknown how many demonstrators will join the march, as pleas from police for information have remained unanswered.

In 2013 the event gathered crowds of more than 2,500. The Facebook event suggests over 6,000 people may attend this year.

Speaking to RT, an Anonymous source said the Million Mask March, a tradition began in 2011, was originally called OpVendetta, and initially only gathered a crowd of 50.

Within a year, the following had grown to 2,000, and in 2013 the decision was made to rename the march the "Million Mask March," the source said.
