The Russian Orthodox Church is not proposing a blanket ban on abortion and its official position is actually "more flexible" than a complete prohibition. That's according to Vladimir Legoyda, the institution's main spokesperson.

Speaking on Saturday to RTVI, a New York-based Russian-language channel aimed at expats, Legoyda revealed that the Church is not entirely against the termination of pregnancy being legal.

"We are taking a softer and more flexible position in this case: we demand [abortion] be withdrawn from the compulsory health insurance fund," he said. The Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund is a taxpayer-funded state program that guarantees the provision of free medical care for a wide range of illnesses.

China lowers age of criminal responsibility to 12 for 'abominable' crimes

judge
China has lowered the age of criminal responsibility to 12 years old for "abominable" crimes such as murder or causing injury that leads to death or severe disabilities by extremely cruel means, the China Daily said.

The revision was passed by the National People's Congress Standing Committee on Saturday after a third review and will be effective from March 1. It applies to children aged between 12 and 14, the state-backed newspaper said.

Children in China aged 14-16 can be held criminally liable if they intentionally commit serious violent crimes such as murder and rape. For most other offences, the age of criminal liability is 16.

Twelve times the lockdowners were wrong

This has been a year of astonishing policy failure. We are surrounded by devastation conceived and cheered by intellectuals and their political handmaidens. The errors number in the thousands, so please consider the following little more than a first draft, a mere guide to what will surely be unearthed in the coming months and years. We trusted these people with our lives and liberties and here is what they did with that trust.

1. Anthony Fauci says lockdowns are not possible in the United States (January 24):

When asked about the mass quarantine containment efforts underway in Wuhan, China back in January, Fauci dismissed the prospect of lockdowns ever coming to the United States:
"That's something that I don't think we could possibly do in the United States, I can't imagine shutting down New York or Los Angeles, but the judgement on the part of the Chinese health authorities is that given the fact that it's spreading throughout the provinces... it's their judgement that this is something that in fact is going to help in containing it. Whether or not it does or does not is really open to question because historically when you shut things down it doesn't have a major effect."
Less than two months later, 43 of 50 US states were under lockdown - a policy advocated by Fauci himself.

Comment: No matter what they say or tell us to do, the responsibility to recognize the truth and research the correct response is ours.

Israeli security forces look at a Palestinian boy with a national flag.
Israeli occupation courts imposed fines worth 350,000 shekels ($102,000) on Palestinian minors during 2020, Director of the Palestine Centre for Prisoners Studies Riyadh Al-Ashqar said yesterday.

According to Safa news agency, most of the Palestinian minors arrested appeared in Ofer military court and were ordered to pay high fines, Al-Ashqar said, adding to the financial burdens experienced by families.

Al-Ashqar said that the Israeli courts impose fines on Palestinian children for all alleged aggressions including stone throwing or being spotted near an Israeli settlement or military checkpoint.

He called for the regional and international rights groups to help end Israel's detention of Palestinian minors and stop the system of "blackmailing" their families by forcing them to pay high fines for the release of their children.

Israel is the only country in the world that automatically prosecutes children in military courts that lack fundamental fair rights and guarantees.

The US has given its support to the EastMed pipeline project that is expected to deliver natural gas from offshore Israel via Greece and Cyprus to the wider European market.

"We are going to continue to work with Israel, Greece and other interested parties to ensure that the infrastructure will be developed," US Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette said during a visit to Greece on Thursday, as quoted by Reuters.

The planned EastMed pipeline, for which a final investment decision is expected in 2022, is expected to deliver around 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the European Union (EU) through Greece and Italy. The EU backs the project as a means to diversify its natural gas imports away from Russia. The EastMed project is expected to meet some 10-15 percent of the EU's projected natural gas needs.

"Greece and its neighbors are redrawing the energy map of southeastern Europe through a variety of major projects like the recently completed TAP and making progress on renewables, e-mobility, and wind power," Secretary Brouillette tweeted from Athens today.

US Surgeon General: Companies shouldn't mandate COVID-19 vaccine

Debates over whether an employer can mandate a COVID-19 vaccine once offices reopen continue to swirl as the U.S. waits to start vaccinating non-priority individuals in the spring of 2021. While current guidance shows it is possible for employers to do so, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams doesn't recommend it.

"Right now, we are not recommending that anyone mandate a vaccine," Adams said in an interview with Yahoo Finance. He explained that it is because the vaccine is still not fully approved, but the company expects fll licensure by the first half of 2021.

"This vaccine hasn't been fully approved yet. It's been authorized. And that means that scientists, the FDA, and independent scientists feel that the benefit far outweighs the risk," he said, explaining the elements of an emergency use authorization.

But with a significant anti-vaccination movement in place around the country, and many still unsure about severe vaccine side effects, it's likely a mandate could face pushback. Even with the most recent poll, by Kaiser Family Foundation, showing 71% of Americans are willing to take a vaccine, internet searches show concern remains.

Explosion, factory fire, Taoyuan City
An explosion at a pharmaceutical factory in Taoyuan City left two injured and caused a fire early this afternoon, December 20.

People as far as Tamsui District in New Taipei City reported hearing the massive blast shortly after noon. Immediately after the blast, thick black smoke could be seen pouring out of the SCI Pharmtech factory.

Comment: Is this just an unfortunate incident or is somebody aggressively trying to reduce the production of the cheap and well-known drug hydroxychloroquine?

Hydroxychloroquine is an affordable and effective drug against Covid-19, which means that there is no need for a dangerous vaccine that is aggressively promoted by Big-Pharma, mainstream media, and national governments of most countries.

Twitterers may love Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but a majority of Americans don't much care for her or the socialist ideas she's selling.

Nearly 60% of Americans said they didn't like the New York Democrat, and 75% reject the socialism she preaches, according to a Heartland Institute/Rasmussen poll.

"When asked, 'Do you have a very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable or very unfavorable impression of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?,' only 18% said 'very favorable,' while 19% said 'somewhat favorable,'" analysts for the pro-market Heartland Institute reported. "On the other hand, 38% of likely voters said they have a 'very unfavorable' impression of AOC, and 20% said they have a 'somewhat unfavorable' impression of her. About 15% said they are not sure."

Two Minnesota state lawmakers are calling for an audit of death certificates that were attributed to the coronavirus, saying COVID-19 deaths could have been inflated by 40%.

State Rep. Mary Franson and state Sen. Scott Jensen released a video last week revealing that after reviewing thousands of death certificates in the state, 40% did not have COVID-19 as the underlying cause of death.

"I have other examples where COVID isn't the underlying cause of death, where we have a fall. Another example is we have a freshwater drowning. We have dementia. We have a stroke and multiorgan failure," Franson said in the video.

She added that in one case, a person who was ejected from a car was "counted as a COVID death" because the virus was in his system.

A federal judge in California ordered the video journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood's practices in the harvesting and sales of aborted baby body parts to pay the abortion giant $13.6 million to cover its legal costs in its case against them.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge William Orrick III ordered David Daleiden and his associates at Center for Medical Progress (CMP) to pay $13.6 million over the $2 million in damages they were ordered to pay last year for recording the abortion vendor's officials while they discussed how they harvest the fetal tissue for sale.

Daleiden and his advocates have now appealed the verdict to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
