Hundreds of people protested in Paris on Wednesday against the introduction of a health pass for some activities and against compulsory vaccinations for health workers as the government seeks to curb a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections in France.

From Wednesday visitors heading to museums, cinemas or swimming pools in France will be denied entry if they cannot produce the health pass showing that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have had a recent negative test.

Some of the protesters waved banners that read "Freedom to choose" and "Hands off my natural immunity!"

"They want to force us to be vaccinated at any price. No, no, no", Nathalie Labedade, a care home worker, told Reuters.

The health pass, previously only required for large-scale festivals or to go clubbing, will also be needed from the start of August to enter restaurants and bars and for long-distance train and plane journeys.

Comment: The good news is that the technology they're using for this New Order is crappy. People can download fake apps that mimic each country's 'official apps', and they're being accepted in most places by staff who either don't know 'the real app' from the fake ones, or don't care to police people for the state.

The "pingdemic" isn't just damaging business and social life, but also the ability of the police to deal with crime. The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) says that response times are "under strain" due to staff shortages caused by self-isolation rules. 7.3% of police officers and staff are currently absent from work, yet the Government appears to be in no hurry to come up with a solution. Sky News has the story.

The NPCC said that in some forces, functions such as control room operations are being hit by high numbers of absent staff, impacting their ability to respond quickly to calls.

Earlier, one police and crime commissioner warned the public that call response times will rise due to the large amount of people being asked to self-isolate after coming into contact with a positive coronavirus case.

With Sydney still in lockdown amid a handful of new Covid-19 cases, the top health official for New South Wales has called for a new level of social-distancing inhumanity: not having conversations with other people.

After reporting a whopping 78 new Covid-19 cases and one death in the state, Chief Health Officer Dr. Kerry Chant told reporters on Tuesday that Australians shouldn't engage in conversations, even if both parties were wearing masks, and regardless of vaccination status.

"Whilst it's human nature to engage in conversation with others, to be friendly, unfortunately, this is not the time to do that," Chant said.

Comment: Just when you thought Australia couldn't get anymore draconian, they go and pull something like this. Human interaction is a vital psychological need for humans, and trying to minimize this is a form of abuse. The lockdowns were bad enough for the sanity of the population, but this is taking it to another level.

A Melbourne couple found guilty of secretly enslaving a woman in their suburban home for close to a decade have been jailed for their "crime against humanity".

Kandasamy and Kumuthini Kannan on Wednesday appeared in Victoria's Supreme Court where they were convicted for subjugating the woman, which ultimately left her in hospital weighing just 40 kilograms.

Kumuthini Kannan, 53, was ordered to spend eight years behind bars.

Comment: What a disgusting story. It sounds like these two got off with rather light sentences, all things considered.

The billionaire's flight at least resulted in breaking two records - those of the oldest and the youngest person to have flown into space.

On 20 July, American billionaire Jeff Bezos embarked on a suborbital flight aboard the New Shepard launch vehicle built by Blue Origin, the company he founded more than two decades ago.

Three other crew members accompanied Bezos on this first human flight conducted by Blue Origin.

The chiropractor for the American women's wrestling team has apologized after comparing Olympic COVID-19 protocols to Nazi Germany in a social media post.

Rosie Gallegos-Main, a chiropractor for women's wrestling since 2009, said in a letter to the USA Wrestling Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee on Wednesday she was sorry "for my poor judgment and my choice to share this message."

The post, sent to her Instagram and Facebook accounts last week, was flagged by both social media platforms for spreading misinformation.

Police in Athens have broken up a protest outside the Greek parliament, using tear gas and water cannon to scatter the demonstrators. The protest was a response to the government's announcement of compulsory vaccination for some.

A crowd of more than 3,500 protesters gathered in Syntagma Square, outside the Hellenic Parliament in Athens on Wednesday. After being asked to leave, some of the protesters threw bottles and other projectiles at police officers, Greek news outlet Kathimerini reported.

The police responded with tear gas, flash grenades, and a truck-mounted water cannon. Videos shared on social media captured the crackdown.

More than 100,000 people have called on the British government to review plans to bring in vaccine passports and prevent discriminatory policies against people who have refused to be part of the national inoculation programme.

A petition which started in February has gathered pace on Tuesday, with thousands adding their names to the growing list of people calling for the government to do more to prevent legalised 'discrimination' against people who aren't vaccinated against Covid-19.

"The Government must specifically outlaw discrimination based on vaccine status, this includes access to private businesses, jobs and public life. No individual should ever feel coerced into having a vaccine," the petition states.

Tens of thousands of people signed the petition on Tuesday morning, following a day of unrest in the capital in which hundreds of angry protesters clashed with police, having called for the arrest of Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Links to the petition have been widely shared across Twitter, with English band Right Said Fred receiving more than 1,200 retweets on their call for people to sign.

More than 17.6 million people aged 18 and above in Beijing, about 90.6 percent of the city's adult population, had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Tuesday noon, local authorities said.

The Chinese capital had administered over 36.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines amid its mass vaccination drive, with over 95.6 percent of its adult population receiving at least one dose of vaccine, according to the municipal government.

The city on Tuesday started COVID-19 vaccination for minors aged between 12 and 17, the municipal government announced.

The border crisis is worsening, undercutting President Biden's early assurances that the chaos along the U.S.-Mexico boundary was just a seasonal blip.

The Border Patrol reported the most action in 21 years in June. Agents recorded 178,416 arrests, defying Homeland Security officials' public predictions that activity at the border would cool off in the summer.

Perhaps more worrying is the surge of illegal immigrant children, which came roaring back after a lull in the late spring. The government last week caught minors at the border faster than it could release them from government-run shelters. The Border Patrol had more than 1,400 in its custody as of Sunday night, the highest number in nearly three months.

Tuesday marked six months into Mr. Biden's tenure. On just about every measure of mayhem, the border situation looks worse than it did on Jan. 20.

Deaths of migrants are up, and the numbers would be worse but for a record-setting year of Border Patrol rescues.
