Silicon Pravda: YouTube exec says 'new rules and laws' needed to tackle platform's 'bad actors'

youtube prison
YouTube has grown so much that it needs new rules to handle "bad actors," its chief product officer claims. The company recently announced it would block racist content and disinformation amid accusations of biased censorship.

Comment: In practice, this means it will block anything critical of the Israeli state, and any alternative news that may happen to correlate with news provided by Russians - among other things.

"YouTube has now grown to a big city. More bad actors have come into place. And just like in any big city, you need a new set of rules and laws and kind of regulatory regime," Neal Mohan told AFP.

Comment: Not when you're imagining crimes where none exist.

The video platform and other tech companies are facing scrutiny and calls for regulation for their apparent failure to shut down content promoting hate speech, disinformation and the exploitation of minors. They are also accused of biased censorship which silences free speech, and of failing to enforce their own rules.

"We want to make sure that YouTube remains an open platform because that's where a lot of the magic comes from, even though there may be some opinions and voices on the platform that I don't agree with, that you don't agree with," Mohan said.

The company has faced a series of recent controversies, including an "Adpocalypse" (when major advertisers pull their ads) when it was revealed that an algorithm was directing users to videos of children which pedophiles were using to express their sexual thoughts in the comments and to share links to child porn. Many of the videos were monetized.

Comment: Ironically, with these policies - many of which are already in practice - YouTube is becoming more like the propaganda wing of a totalitarian fascist or communist regime.

NYPD in the grip of a mental health crisis; 5 suicides in two months

NYPD mental health
Another New York City police officer died by suicide amid what officials have declared a "mental health crisis."

The Sergeants Benevolent Association said on social media Saturday that the late officer was a sergeant, but neither the union nor the NYPD have identified the officer. Commissioner James O'Neill pleaded with his police force to seek help for any mental health issues that they may be facing.

"To every member of the NYPD, please know this: it is okay to feel vulnerable," O'Neill said in a statement Saturday. "It is okay if you are facing struggles. And it is okay to seek help from others. You may not know this, and it may be hard to imagine, but you are not out there all by yourself."

Jewish model subject to death, rape threats just for supporting Trump

Model
It is disgusting how the left treats minorities and people of color just for supporting Trump.

The people who claim to oppose fascism couldn't be more facistic themselves, calling into question whether or not the only thing they really oppose is true liberty and morals.

Jewish model Elizabeth Pipko is the leader of the pro-Trump movement "Jexodus" for former Democratic Jews who are sick and tired of the party's antisemitism and lies.

However, the model and activist says that there has been a violent backlash to her public support of Trump.

Protest demanding the arrest of Kuldeep Sengar in Lucknow, India, 2018
An Indian teenager who accused a lawmaker of rape in 2017 has been seriously injured in a 'suspicious' car crash that killed two of her relatives, her family said. It's the third fatal incident since the case came to light.

The Uttar Pradesh girl accused the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Sengar of raping her, and tried to self-immolate outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence to bring attention to her case. Sengar, a member of the Legislative Assembly, has been charged with criminal conspiracy, abduction of minor, rape, and threat and is currently in jail.

The teenager was travelling with her family and her lawyer on Sunday when their vehicle was hit by a speeding truck in Rae Bareli. Her aunt and her sister were killed in the collision and she was critically injured.

The truck involved in the crash had a blackened number plate, images shared on social media show. The truck driver fled the scene but he was later caught, and was the owner of the truck.

Caitlin Johnstone: What the hell is going on here, anyway?

Earth
Over the course of my young career here I've amassed a very eclectic group of readers from all across the political spectrum, which I quite enjoy. Sometimes I read the comments sections just to watch what happens when you bring people together from wildly different worldviews who wouldn't normally interact with each other very much and see how those reality tunnels dance together in a conversation or debate.

I can't rightly call my whole audience left-wing or right-wing, conspiracy theorists or anarchists, activists or intellectuals, or almost any other label I can think of. There's only one attribute that comes to mind which unites pretty much all of my readers and social media followers, and that's a drive to know what's really going on in the world. Their curiosity about what's going on in what specific field may differ from person to person, as do the conclusions they reach, but basically I think we're all united by a desire, perhaps often an obsessive one, to come to some understanding of what's really happening in the world.

Russian sailors and Navy officers celebrate their professional holiday on Sunday with dazzling warship parades, aircraft flybys, and simulated amphibious assault operations staged throughout the country and beyond.

Navy Day is one of Russia's major national holidays and is celebrated on the last Sunday of July. While the navy has over three centuries of history under its belt, the holiday in honor of its achievements and strength was established in 1939.

St. Petersburg, the former imperial capital that cemented Russia's claim for dominance in the Baltic Sea in the 18th century, traditionally holds the biggest naval parade. Forty-three ships from all four Russian fleets sailed in front of spectators. Dozens of aircraft operated by the navy, including advanced Su-30SM fighter jets and Be-12 amphibious anti-submarine warfare planes, took part.

YouTube terminates account of Sacramento family fighting Verizon 5G cell tower installed next to children's bedroom

youtube prison
Few people in Sacramento have signed up for 5G. Many want it gone, including the Davidson family who had a small cell tower installed next to their home. They have been very public about experiencing symptoms of Microwave Sickness and Electromagnetic Sensitivity from exposure. According to the family's GoFundMe page, YouTube has now cancelled their account.

You can also visit the family's blog 5G Awareness Now here.

The Telecom Industry has admitted they have no scientific evidence that 5G wireless is biologically safe and plenty of researchers say it isn't (see 1, 2, 3). American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and other health experts have also warned that children are more vulnerable than adults to all sources of cell phone and wireless radiation. Pets are affected by exposure too.
