MSNBC and CNN employ lying CIA apologists to spin intelligence stories

John McLaughlin cia

Former CIA Deputy Director John McLaughlin
MSNBC prides itself for progressive reporting on national security issues but continues to use apologists for the Central Intelligence Agency in reporting on key intelligence issues. The network's reliance on former deputy director of the CIA John McLaughlin is an excellent example of the skewed and tailored information that it offers to viewers on matters dealing with CIA. McLaughlin, a former colleague of mine at the CIA who I remember as an amateur magician, regularly pulls the wool over the eyes of such MSNBC veterans as Andrea Mitchell.

The most recent example took place over the past several days, when McLaughlin made the case for confirmation of Gina Haspel as the first woman to become director of the CIA. McLaughlin and former CIA directors Leon Panetta and John Brennan referred to Haspel as a "seasoned veteran" who had the support of senior CIA leaders. Perhaps MSNBC should acknowledge the fact that Deputy Director McLaughlin was Haspel's boss during this terrible period in American history.

Comment: Yet another reason to tune out the MSM.There are better source of information out there.

China's four-decade plan made it the world's strongest economy

china factory
Within our lifetimes, China has transformed from an agrarian economy to a world-beating digital and consumption-led powerhouse, driven by smartphone-wallet shoppers.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's economic reform and opening. In December 1978, China's "open door" policy signposted a turning point in its economic management and trajectory.

Over the period, the character of China's economic management has evolved from being strictly centrally planned, export oriented and state led to one that is more market led and oriented towards domestic consumption.

China's gross domestic product has achieved an average annual growth rate of 10 per cent in the past 40 years - three times the rate in the United States over the same period.

Israel drops hundreds of tear gas cannisters on Gaza marchers

Israel drones Gaza
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) used drones to drop tear gas canisters on the unarmed Palestinian civilians taking part in the Great March of Return in Gaza on Friday. As tens of thousands of Palestinians gathered at five locations along the eastern borders of the Gaza Strip, the occupation IDF used live ammunition and tear gas to disperse them, as well as the occasional artillery and tank shells.

The drones flew between 10 and 20 metres over the heads of protesters and dropped tear gas canisters on every flypast, causing huge panic among the people. It is believed that they carry 20 tear gas canisters on each flight.

For the powerful: socialism, privacy, charity - For the powerless: capitalism, surveillance, rugged individualism

Andrew McCabe

Andrew McCabe
"The crowning achievement in hypocrisy must go to those staunch Republicans and Democrats of the Midwest and West who were given land by our government when they came here as immigrants from Europe. They were given education through the land grant colleges. They were provided with agricultural agents to keep them abreast of forming trends. They were granted low interest loans to aid in the mechanization of their farms, and now that they have succeeded in becoming successful, they are paid not to farm. And these are the same people that now say to black people, whose ancestors were brought to this country in chains and who were emancipated in 1863 without being given land to cultivate or bread to eat, that they must pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. What they truly advocate is socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor."
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
"I gotta get rid of this stuff. Man, I don't know what I'm gonna do with it. The more money you make, the more free shit they give you. It makes no sense."
~ Adam Sandler, Funny People (2009)
A GoFundMe for former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was fired two weeks ago by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has raised over $400,000 in less than a day.

Another way to say that would be that a former officer from the US intelligence community, who is married to a successful physician and will surely receive a book deal worth millions of dollars, just had a charity drive which in less than a day raised an amount of money it would take the average American years to earn.

Meanwhile, an impoverished American recently died because his GoFundMe failed to raise enough money for his insulin and an FBI whistleblower was just arrested for trying to bring transparency to the Bureau's secret domestic surveillance practices while banks receive massive bailouts, global fossil fuel subsidies total trillions of dollars, and Amazon paid zero federal taxes last year despite earning billions.

You want trade war? China to slap US with 15-25% import tariff increase

Beijing is hiking up tariffs on more than 128 US imports, including fruit and pork, as part of a tit-for-tat response to US President Donald Trump's $60 billion package of tariffs imposed against China.

The additional fares, which range from 15 to 25 percent, will take effect on Monday, the Chinese Finance Ministry said on their website. It added that the measure, aimed at "safeguarding China's interests," was in response to Washington's package of tariffs targeting more than 100 types of Chinese goods, from clothing to electronics.

The statement said China has suspended duty concessions on imported goods originating from the US, and has imposed a duty rate of 15 percent on 120 items of imports, such as fruits and products. The tariff rate for eight items of imported goods, such as pork and food products, is now 25 percent.

China's current tax-free and tax-exemption policy "remains unchanged," the ministry noted, adding that the move comes in compliance with multilateral trading mechanisms and rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Ziyavudin Magomedov, co-owner of Russia's Summa investment and trading group.
Russian billionaire businessman Ziyavudin Magomedov, a co-owner of the Summa investment group, was arrested on Saturday on charges of misappropriating millions in state funds designed for infrastructure and energy projects.

Magomedov was arrested in Moscow together with his brother and Summa co-owner, Magomed Magomedov, and the head of one of the companies involved in Summa, Artur Maksidov.

The businessmen brothers are suspected of theft by fraud and embezzlement while acting as part of an organized crime group. The prosecution believes the stolen money, some 2.5 billion rubles ($44 million), have been transferred from Russia to be deposited in offshore accounts controlled by Magomedov. The exact whereabouts of the money is unknown, the prosecutor's office admitted on Saturday.

Magomedov, who has stakes in construction, logistics, transportation and energy companies through his multi-profile Summa group, landed the sixty-third spot on the Forbes' list of Russia's richest businessmen. His personal assets are estimated to be worth $1.4 billion. His brother, Magomed Magomedov, has an estimated net worth of $0.45 billion.

US' expulsion of Russian diplomats from United Nations HQ violates all international deals says envoy

United Nations

The US acted unlawfully when it expelled Russian diplomats from the UN headquarters in New York and has failed as the host country for the international body, Gennady Gatilov, Russia's envoy to the UN Office in Geneva, said.

Washington's decision to include 12 Russian UN mission employees to the list of diplomats expelled from the US over the Sergei Skripal case, is "absolutely illegal and contradicting all international agreements and conventions on diplomatic relations," Gatilov told RIA Novosti.

"This is absolutely unlawful because... those diplomats are accredited at the United Nations and have a completely different status. They work as representatives of Russia at the UN, but not with the US government," he explained.

The envoy said that the US used "unscrupulous methods" to put pressure on Russian diplomats at the UN long before announcing the expulsion on Monday. One of these means was through the "non-renewal of visas for our diplomats working in New York," he said.

Comment: Washington had notified the UN of its decision, made under Section 13b of the Treaty between the United Nations and the United States as the host country.

Trump's budget offers billions for guns, crumbs for working people

The food line
In December, the U.N. special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights visited the U.S., including L.A., with its 55,000 homeless; the Deep and not-so-Deep South; and Puerto Rico. He found that although arguably the richest and most powerful country on earth, the U.S. has the highest infant mortality and is close to the bottom in healthcare, inequality, access to water and sanitation, and child and youth poverty among industrialized countries.

These realities put into context Pres. Trump's February 12 budget proposal, as just part of a long-term trend destroying the social safety net. This 1,988-page tome in four parts reflects ruling class priorities of further chopping services for people and the environment, increasing funding for an already bloated military, and expanding a "fortress Americana" of anti-immigrant fences, prisons and technology.

This proposal to Congress, which controls spending, is another episode in a convoluted drama that aims to confuse. The media skips from episode to episode, keeping everyone distracted and exasperated with every little dust up, while incremental cuts to human services, education and the environment proceed year after year.

Trump's cruel budget.

This year's budget proposal is a warmed-over version of last year's, with similar reductions and increases.

The biggest winner is the Department of Defense with more than $700 billion in 2019 alone. The air, land and sea nuclear arsenals get a $24 billion increase. This part of the budget was passed by Congress on Feb. 9, several days before the president's budget was officially released.

Comment: Congress passed the Omnibus Bill having 2 days to print, read, comprehend, debate almost 2000 pages of budgetary proposals. Was it read, debated, revised? Are there hidden caveats, pet projects, negative consequences? A government shutdown deadline was the voting impetus...and Congress got a raise. Hooray. Lunch, anyone?

Expel Americans from historic Moscow mansion suggests leader of Russian nationalist party

Spaso House, Residence of the U.S. Ambassador in Moscow.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky has proposed having the US ambassador expelled from the famous Spaso House residence in Moscow, and suggested that his party should occupy the building after it becomes vacant.
"We have repeatedly proposed using asymmetrical measures. For example, we could reply to the expulsion of our diplomats by depriving the US Embassy in Moscow of the magnificent Spaso House mansion that is currently the US ambassador's residence. After this, the building could be handed over to the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia," the head of the Liberal Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, wrote on Telegram on Friday.
In the same post, Zhirinovsky wrote that it is wrong to only react to the hostile actions of other nations.

The comment came after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Russia will expel 60 US diplomats and close the US Consulate in St. Petersburg in response to the US' expulsion of the same number of Russian diplomats and the closure of the Russian Consulate in Seattle.

Comment: When it all gets down to the international food fight, we can look for another planet to live on. In the meantime, the US should grow up and lead with integrity and diplomacy that is extended to all countries, dignitaries and people around the world.

Feminist propaganda: CNN article claims Easter story is like a '#metoo moment'

facepalm picard
An article from CNN.com published Friday bewilderingly claims that the biblical story of Easter is a #MeToo story from Mary Magdalene's perspective.

"The men refused to listen to her story," the article begins. "She was publicly smeared as a whore. And when she emerged as celebrated advocate, powerful men tried to silence her because she threatened their status. Nevertheless she persisted."

"The woman we're talking about, though, is not a leader in the #MeToo movement - the viral campaign raising awareness about sexual assault and harassment against women," it continues.
