Monsanto's newest poison is drifting to neighboring fields killing more than 42K acres of crops

pesticide drift, dicamba
Now that glyphosate has been denounced by the World Health Organization, there's a new spray in town from our friendly neighborhood purveyor of poison, Monsanto. It hasn't yet been approved, but given the history of blatant collusion between Monsanto and the government, there's little doubt that it will be.

But there's a bit of a catch: even though dicamba, the newest toxic ingredient in the Monsanto line-up, hasn't actually been approved for this use by the EPA, it is already being widely used on genetically modified crops...And the illegal spray is killing the crops of neighboring farmers.

The Environmental Working Group reports:
Farmers in 10 states have now complained that dicamba is hurting their crops, according to a notice issued last week by the Environmental Protection Agency. The reported damage from dicamba has spread from two to 10 states in a matter of weeks, and now includes Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

The EPA has done very little in response to the complaints, and some states are beginning to take matters into their own hands to protect their farmers and prevent further crop loss...

Dicamba easily drifts in the air after it's sprayed, and damages crops when it lands on neighboring fields. More than 100 Missouri farmers have reported damage to their peaches, tomatoes, cantaloupes, watermelons, rice, cotton, peas, peanuts, alfalfa and soybeans.

The man who held Elizabeth Smart captive when she was a teenager regularly looked at pornography, which "just led to him raping me more," the now 28-year-old woman says in a new video.

"He would just sit and look at it and stare at it, and he would just talk about these women, and then when he was done, he would turn and look at me, and he would be like, 'Now we're going to do this,'" Smart said of her convicted abductor, Brian David Mitchell.

The video, posted to YouTube on Friday, was produced by Fight the New Drug, an anti-porn non-profit group.

During a most unusual surgery, doctors at an Indian hospital were stunned to discover scores of knives in a patient's stomach. As it turns out, the man has had an "uncontrollable urge" to eat them for the past two months.

In a rather "dreadful" operation, doctors at a hospital in Amritsar in northwestern India recovered 40 knives from a patient's body after the man was admitted to the facility with severe stomach pain, the Times of India reports. According to Barcroft Media, Police head constable Jarnail Singh had been eating the cutlery for the past two months, as he simply "liked the way they tasted."

"In my 20 years of practice, this is the most dreadful surgery I have ever seen or done," said Dr. Jatinder Malhotra, managing director of The Corporate Hospital.

Portrait of a psychopath: Felix Vail found guilty of 1962 murder of his wife - later romantic partners disappeared or died

Nearly 54 years after a young woman died in southwest Louisiana, Felix Vail, her husband, is going on trial, accused of killing her.
Update: A jury found Felix Vail guilty Friday in the 1962 homicide of his first wife, Mary Horton Vail. The Lake Charles, La., jury deliberated less than an hour, the Clarion-Ledger reported.

For more than half a century, Felix Vail's love life has left a trail of dead bodies and missing persons.

His first wife, Mary Horton Vail, died while out fishing with him. Her body was found in the Calcasieu River with four inches of her scarf stuffed into her mouth and down her throat. When police pulled her body from the water near Lake Charles, La., the day before Halloween in 1962, her corpse was covered in bruises and crabs had burrowed into her scalp. She was 22 years old, with a 4-month-old son at home.

Eleven years later, he was dating a girl named Sharon Hensley, who disappeared into thin air in 1973. She was never heard from again.

A decade after Hensley's disappearance, Vail remarried, this time to Annette Craver. Much like Hensley, she disappeared, in 1984. Also much like Hensley, she was never heard from again.

Though the circumstances in each case were strange — and family members of each woman think Vail had a hand in their demise — he has never faced criminal charges in any of the three cases. He was arrested following his first wife's death but never prosecuted, according to the Associated Press.

He has never been put on trial.

Until now.

"The latest news is she passed away," Bello said, adding, "I tried to talk to her. I introduced myself and whispered to her to move her fingers if she can hear me but there was no response."

Blow to debtor's prisons: U.S. DOJ rules that jailing poor people for inability to post bail or pay fines is unconstitutional

jailing poor people, debtor prison
Last Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) made the shocking statement that it will no longer use private prisons to incarcerate federal prisoners, saying they are less safe and less effective than government-run facilities.

This was welcome news for those who realize that for-profit prisons contribute to the problem of mass incarceration, but the feds still need to address the glaring issue of jailing people for victimless crimes such as drug use.

The effects on the prison-industrial complex were immediate, as stock values crashed for the Corrections Corporation of America and the GEO Group. Now, another DoJ ruling has the for-profit prison system reeling.

For the first time, the DoJ said in a federal appeals court that defendants cannot be held in jail solely because they can't afford to pay bail.

Comment: This is a welcome start to ending the practice of jailing poor people for minor offenses; unfortunately local governments who sustain their departments by preying on the poor may find ways to circumvent the ruling.

A suspected drug dealer who had managed to evade US police for more than five months was finally caught after he was found disguised as a balding "elderly man" at a Massachusetts home.

Shaun "Shizz" Miller had reportedly been on the run since April, when authorities named him as a suspect in a drug trafficking investigation.

On Thursday, law enforcement officers surrounded a house in South Yarmouth in Barnstable County, where the 31-year-old was thought to be staying. However, after officers called for Miller to give himself up there was apparently some confusion when an elderly man emerged from the house.

Not divisive enough? Lamestream media stops coverage of Louisiana flooding

Last week, Louisianians were hit with what meteorologists dubbed a '1,000-year' flood. Tragic displays of people losing their homes, death tolls, images of destruction, and general chaos dominated mainstream media. However, when the rain stopped — so did the media's coverage.

Prior to the media descending into the Cajun heartland to catch drive-by scenes of death and destruction, they were here to stoke further divide after three officers were tragically gunned down. Before that, the mainstream media were here stoking divide, using the tragic killing of Alton Sterling by Baton Rouge cops as their fodder.

When there was no more hate to propagate in a community reeling from three back to back tragedies, and the media couldn't find anyone to blame, the talking heads rolled up their cords, got into their vans, and headed to the next disaster.

Cop kills deaf man trying to communicate with him in sign language

Daniel Kevin Harris

Daniel Kevin Harris
A community and family is mourning the loss of Daniel Kevin Harris, whose life was taken this week by a State Trooper who apparently fears sign language. Harris, who is deaf and mute, was gunned down in front of his house.

According to police, trooper Jermaine Saunders attempted to pull Harris over around 6:14 p.m. on Thursday. For an unknown reason, Harris did not stop and, instead, drove to his home.

During the pursuit, both cars became damaged and eventually came to a stop near Harris' home.

"I was here in my driveway and I saw the highway patrol car come through and it was smoking really bad," said neighbor Mark Barringer. "About 10 seconds later, I heard one gunshot."

Oklahoma police kill innocent man holding a hammer

Dominic Rollice, 49, of Tahlequah was shot and killed by Tahlequah police officers last night after he allegedly lunged at them with a hammer.
Graphic body cam footage was released this week showing officers needlessly escalate to deadly force as they surrounded a man who was holding up a hammer. One of the officers effectively deployed his taser to stop the man, however, it was futile as two other cops put three bullets each into him.

The victim was 49-year-old Dominic Rollice of Park Hill who was drunk and in the house where he used to live. He was in the garage when his ex-wife called the police to have him removed.

"He's drunk, and it's gonna get ugly real quick," the woman could be heard telling a 911 dispatcher.

The dispatcher warned the woman that if officers come out, they will have to take him in for public intoxication.
