The "tough, immediate" measures involve an incredible police crackdown, a ban on home deliveries of knives and acid, and expanding law enforcement stop-and-search powers so that police may stop anyone they believe to be a threat, or planning a knife or acid attack.
Khan announced Friday that the city has created a "violent crime taskforce of 120 officers" tasked with rooting out knife-wielding individuals in public spaces, and is pumping nearly $50 million into the Metropolitan Police department so that they can better arm themselves against knife attacks. He's also empowering the Met Police to introduce "targeted patrols with extra stop and search powers for areas worst-affected," according to a statement.

A member of forces of President Bashar al Assad hold a Syrian flag as buses carrying freed hostages and rebels who were evacuated from the rebel-held city of Douma drive at Wafideen camp in Damascus, Syria.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Monday that medics of the Syrian Douma had received no patients with signs of chemical poisoning.
"Representatives of the Reconciliation Center interviewed doctors and employees of the hospital in the city of Duma. They denied the reports about allegedly receiving patients with symptoms of chemical poisoning," a press release, issued by the ministry said.
At the same time, employees of the Syrian Red Crescent Society have not recorded any cases of poisoning caused by a chemical attack in the past two days, the organization's spokesperson told Sputnik.
"We, as the Red Crescent organization, have not recorded any cases for the past two days, since our doctors did not work because of the latest events. The statement that was issued on behalf of the Red Crescent is not valid, because we have never made any statements in media. We wrote about this on our official website," the spokesperson said.

Freeze frame of video shot through rifle scope of Israeli sniper shooting unarmed Palestinian on Gaza border and then celebrating.
In sharing the video, Jewish Voice for Peace says the shooting took place last week:
An IDF soldier filmed himself shooting at unarmed Palestinian protesters on Gaza border this last Friday and then celebrating with his friends saying "Take that sons of bitches." The IDF has responded that it will investigateThe New York Times has also covered it, honestly, saying the video shows "Israeli troops shooting a Palestinian man across the border fence at a time when he posed no obvious threat - and then rejoicing."
Comment: More details from RT:
Yehuda Glick, an MK with the Likud party, said the footage is "very hard to watch," adding that the atmosphere was "troubling and disappointing," Haaretz reported.
However, Likud MK Oren Hazan, who has been suspended from the Knesset over sexual harassment and stalking incidents, had a different view. "What's all the fuss about? It was noted in advance: anyone who approaches the fence, armed or not, is gonna get hit. As it should be!" he tweeted.
What's the fuss about? The message was given in advance: anyone approaching the fence, armed or unabducted. And good thing! Then let the soldiers defend us all--I am personally proud of them! Hope that through the clip the other side will be clearer. and a note to Yonit Levy: do everyone a favor and keep your msoazaim looks where you really need them...Hazan continued to state that he was proud of the soldiers defending Israel, and that he hopes the footage sends "a clearer message to the other side."
According to IDF protocol, any live fire directed at protests requires approval by the most senior leadership in the field.
Meanwhile, a sniper is permitted to fire towards anyone who approaches the border fence with the intention of penetrating Israeli territory, with the permitted distance being 100 meters (328 feet).
There is a separate fence in front of the border fence, and rules allow for shooting only in the lower body of anyone entering the territory between the two fences.
Protests as part of the 'Great Return March' have been taking place at the border since March 30, and are scheduled to continue until 'Nakba' on May 15 - a day which Israelis celebrate as Independence Day and Palestinians believe is the day of mass exodus from their land as a result of the establishment of the Jewish state.
"We're not in a position at this point to independently verify the allegations [about the alleged chemical attack in Douma], but, obviously, any allegation of continued use of chemical weapons is extremely, extremely troubling," Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said in a statement on Monday evening.
Law enforcement officials were mobilized for evictions in Notre-Dame-des-Landes commune, 20km from the city of Nantes on Monday. Some 250 activists occupied the 1,650-hectare site, once reserved for a proposed airport, calling it their "Zone a Defendre" (Zone to be Defended). The illegal occupants of the anarchist commune demanded the right to stay after creating a so-called "self-governing utopia."
The Russian embassy in London welcomed confirmation of Skripal's release from hospital, but appealed for "urgent proof that what is being done to her is done on her own free will."
Comment: An interesting development. So what are we to make of the media reports suggesting that MI6 wanted to "disappear" the Skripals by putting them in witness protection in another country - with no public statement from either of them confirming that's what they actually want? See: Chemical Cover-up Continues: British Consider 'Disappearing' Skripals Somewhere in The Anglosphere. Moscow responded, saying that such an action would be seen by them as citizen abduction.
The embassy said any secret relocation of the duo from their current position in the Wiltshire town of Salisbury would negate any chance of hearing their account of what happened on March 4, when Sergei and Yulia were struck by a powerful military-grade nerve agent. That makes it sound as if Viktoria thinks Yulia might genuinely want asylum. This should clarify what she thinks: 'I fear Yulia will now be pushed to disown us and get political asylum - and we will never be able to see her and Sergei again.'
"The world, while having no opportunity to interact with them, will have every reason to see this as an abduction of two Russian nationals or at least as their isolation," the embassy's website said.

Yulia, a Russian citizen who lived in Moscow and was attacked in the UK while visiting her father, reportedly intends to seek political asylum in Britain, Russia's RIA news agency reported on Monday.
"I know that Yulia Skripal's statement about political asylum is coming already," her cousin, Viktoria Skripal, said on a Russian TV talk show, according to RIA.
The hospital's handling of the case (and the Skripals) has been abysmal, but they're probably under a lot of pressure to obey. See:

"All three had been exposed to a nerve agent," Blanshard said. She added that the Skripals had "both received round-the-clock care" throughout the last four weeks.Yep, it's a "miracle", all right.
"I won't go into great detail about the treatment but nerve agents attach themselves to certain enzymes in the body. This results in hallucinations and sickness. We then needed to use a variety of drugs to supplement the patients to create more enzymes to fight the poisoning," she said.
"Both patients have responded exceptionally well to the treatment we've been providing, but equally, both patients are at different stages in their recovery.
"Her father has also made good progress. On Friday, I announced he was no longer in a critical condition. Although he is recovering more slowly than Yulia, we hope that he too will be able to leave hospital in due course."
According to Friedman, the rebuilding of Russia by nurturing human talent and strengthening the rule of law was too hard for Putin. By contrast, he decided to look for dignity for Russia, by developing oil industry and strengthening the Russian military."Putin has undertaken so many actions in recent years that contributed to the weakening of Russia's economy and human capital base that you have to wonder whether he's secretly on the C.I.A.'s payroll" , Friedman wrote.
Comment: Another insane theory that tries to reconcile what Putin does and what the MSM says Putin does.
Here's what the poll shows
The Monmouth poll shows that more Americans believe that the mainstream news participates at least partly in "fake news" than they did last year.
About 77 percent of Americans polled think "traditional major TV and newspaper media outlets" report fake news at least occasionally. Of those, 31 percent believe they report fake news so regularly.
Last year, 63 percent believed the same, meaning that 14 percent more of Americans believe the mainstream media reports fake news at least occasionally.
"These findings are troubling, no matter how you define 'fake news.' Confidence in an independent fourth estate is a cornerstone of a healthy democracy," said Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray. "Ours appears to be headed for the intensive care unit."
