Suspect detained as part of investigation into brutal rape and murder of Bulgarian journalist who investigated misuse of EU funds

A government source told Reuters that the Bulgarian police had detained a suspect over the possible killing of journalist Viktoria Marinova.

The suspect is considered to be a Romanian national, who also has a Moldovan citizenship, according to the Bulgarian National Radio.

The media outlet noted that the Interior Ministry had so far declined to comment on any information related to the case.

Earlier in the day, the BTA news agency reported that Bulgarian authorities were considering all possible versions of the assassination of Bulgarian journalist Viktoria Marinova and consider her murder an "extremely cruel" act.

Suicide attack at Afghanistan election office kills 10 including parliamentary candidate

The incident followed a blast at an election rally in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, in which 14 people were killed and more than 30 were injured. Daesh* terror group claimed responsibility for the attack

The governor's press service said in a Tuesday statement obtained by Sputnik, that at least 10 were killed and 10 more wounded by the blast at the campaign office in the city of Lashkargah in Helmand Province.

"The suicide attack left 10 people killed and 10 more injured, including the parliamentary candidate [Saleh Mohammad Achekzai]," the statement read.

9 killed, 14 injured in blast at Indian steel plant

According to preliminary reports, the blast occurred in one of the units of the Bhilai steel plant where at least 24 persons were working Tuesday morning.

At least nine persons have been killed and 14 have been seriously injured in a blast at the Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhatisgarh in eastern India. The explosion at the plant owned by the state-run Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) took place at around 10:30 a.m. (Indian Standard Time), the police said.

"A fire in the gas pipeline of Coke Oven Battery Complex No. 11 of its Bhilai Steel Plant broke out at around 10:30 a.m. today. The fire broke out during a scheduled maintenance job. Nine persons have lost their lives and 14 are undergoing medical treatment for burn injuries," the Ministry of Steel informed, releasing a statement.

Foreign aid workers who rallied to the island of Sulawesi after the devastating earthquake and tsunami more than a week ago have been asked to leave the country by the Indonesian government.

Foreign agencies flew in after a devastating earthquake on 28 September, which triggered a tsunami. The official death toll from the disaster is 1,944, about 5,000 people remain missing, presumed dead.

Indonesia's national disaster management authority (BNBP) issued regulations for international NGOs, including that: "Foreign NGOs who have deployed foreign personnel are advised to retrieve their personnel immediately."

The announcement has prompted concerns that the ability of NGOs to deliver aid will be hampered.

Comment: The Indonesian government likely does not want foreign NGOs going around their country stirring things up, as NGOs are wont to do.

Well-known conservative columnist and author Rod Dreher reacts to shocking video which emerged on Monday showing masked Antifa members taking over an entire busy intersection and claiming the authority to direct traffic in an American city.
Notice that these thugs include white people using racist anti-white language to order drivers to do as they say.

Is this America? Is this routine in Portland? Why are the Portland police not arresting these people? This video captures the faces of some of them. Arrest them. Jail them.
And yet the Portland resident and journalist, Andy Ngo, who first posted the now viral video says "This is the type of street anarchy that routinely happens where I live."

Comment: Antifa mob rule has been escalating in Portland for a while now. The local politicians appear to have abandoned any responsibility to keep the majority of Portland safe from harm. It's the logical outcome of three decades of social justice indoctrination. The lunatics really are running the asylum.

At night they laid on the street, stopping traffic at a critical junction near a hospital. Police stayed away. "At this time I am denying your request for additional resources," the Portland Police Bureau's deputy chief, Robert Day, wrote to federal officers pleading for help. Hours later, the remaining ICE workers were finally evacuated by a small federal police team. The facility shut down for more than a week.
Every extreme provokes an oppositional reaction. Antifa and its ilk may be in for some unpleasant surprises if they continue along this course.

Pop star Taylor Swift has finally voiced a political opinion and endorsed two Democrats running in Tennessee's midterms, one of whom came out in support of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh over sexual assault allegations.

Swift took to Instagram to explain that she could not support the Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn because of her record of voting against women and the LGBT community.

Swift instead endorsed former Governor Phil Bredesen, who recently angered Democratic voters when he said he would have supported Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court because the sexual assault allegations levied against him lacked sufficient evidence.

French and Italian maritime authorities have begun cleaning up a fuel spill that has spread 20 kilometers (12.5 miles) in the Mediterranean Sea after two cargo ships collided north of the island of Corsica.

Italy's coast guard said Monday it's recovering some of the polluted material and monitoring the spill amid changing weather conditions.

A Tunisian cargo ship pierced a hole in the hull of a Cypriot container ship in Sunday's collision, causing the fuel leak. No one was injured.

Residents across California were dumbfounded and awe-struck Sunday night as a strange object ignited the night sky. While many people's first instinct was to think aliens were en route, it was, in fact, a SpaceX rocket launch.

Despite repeated warnings during the week in the build-up to the launch, it appears many residents in California didn't get the memo.

In fact, according to Google trends, quite a lot of people in the tri-state area in California, New Mexico, and Arizona were concerned about ET making an appearance Sunday night.

Tens of thousands of British citizens who pose a sexual threat to children online are increasingly seeking out victims in poor and war-torn countries, the nation's top law enforcement agency has said.

The Philippines has become recognised as a commercial hub for child abuse imagery and live streaming of child abuse for foreign buyers. Children in Kenya, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries are also increasingly at risk as broadband access and free encrypted technology spreads across the world, the National Crime Agency (NCA) has warned.

"There is an increasing threat to children in developing countries where safeguarding capabilities cannot keep pace with advancing technologies, and this threat is likely to grow," said Rob Jones, an expert on the sexual exploitation of children online for the NCA.
