Venezuela inflation tops 1.3 million percent in November

Venezuela reforma
Venezuela's consumer prices rose 1.3 million percent in the year ending in November, the opposition-controlled National Assembly said on Monday, as hyperinflation and recession grip the OPEC member.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecast earlier this year that inflation would top 1 million percent in 2018 and 10 million percent next year. Monthly inflation decelerated to 144 percent in November from 148 percent the prior month and 233 percent in September, the National Assembly said in a report.

Socialist President Nicolas Maduro late last month increased the monthly minimum wage by 150 percent to 4,500 bolivars, fewer than $10 at the black market exchange rate. Citizens had complained that they could not afford basic items despite a previous 60-fold minimum wage increase in August.

Comment: The black market exchange rate is not a valid measure:

The National Assembly has become the only reliable source for consumer price data since the government stopped publishing economic indicators years ago as falling oil prices sent activity tumbling. The IMF has been pressuring Venezuela to provide it with official economic data, sources said last month.

Maduro blames an 'economic war' waged by domestic business interests and the United States for Venezuela's woes. Critics point to his interventionist policies and printing of money to finance a wide fiscal deficit as the causes of hyperinflation and shortages of basic goods.

In this Friday Dec. 7, 2018 image, Madison greets his owner, Andrea Gaylord.
A dog that survived the catastrophic "Camp Fire" in Northern California apparently protected the ruins of his home for almost a month until his owner returned. Madison was there waiting when Andrea Gaylord was allowed back to check on her burned property in Paradise this week.

The "Camp Fire," which destroyed the historical mining town, is the most deadly in state history, with at least 88 fatalities. The wildfire destroyed nearly 19,000 buildings, including 13,954 homes.

Gaylord fled when the November 8 fire broke out and decimated the historical mining town of 27,000. An animal rescuer who responded to Gaylord's request to check on Madison first spotted the male Anatolian shepherd mix several days later.

An Afghan citizen is suspected of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old girl in her own home in Austria. The alleged perpetrator - also a teenager - has been detained after being on the run, police announced in a tweet.

The 17-year-old is alleged to have stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the back, puncturing her lung. According to media reports, the victim's mother had to force the bedroom door open after becoming worried about her daughter.

Despite the door being barricaded from inside, the woman still managed to make her way in... only to discover the teen's body. Investigators believe the suspect jumped out the window (as it was wide open) - leaving the girl dead on the floor.

The murder occurred in the town of Steyr, just about two hours west of Vienna. It is said that the ex-boyfriend lived nearby at home for asylum seekers and had an on-off relationship with the 16-year-old. The motive behind the tragedy is still being investigated.

New York physician took pics of sex abuse, patients seek their whereabouts

Rockefeller Hospital
Former patients of a doctor accused of molesting children at Rockefeller University Hospital for decades are demanding to know what happened to photos they say the physician took while the abuse was occurring.

The physician, Reginald Archibald, worked at the New York City hospital from 1948 to 1982 as an endocrinologist who specialized in childhood growth. Former patients have said that in addition to molesting them, he would photograph them naked for what he said was scientific research. Archibald died in 2007.

Peter Katsikis had only one appointment with Archibald, in 1969. He said Archibald directed him to remove his clothes; he touched him sexually and then took several photos of him in the nude. Katsikis was 12 and said it was his first sexual experience. He wouldn't tell anyone until he told his wife 26 years later.

The trauma changed him, he said, making him cynical and sometimes short-tempered as an adult. The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are sexual assault victims unless they grant permission.

Leftist parties in France encourage Yellow Vests to continue protests

Macron's concessions to the Yellow Vests has failed to appease protesters and opposition politicians, such as Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who called for "citizen's revolution" to continue until a fair distribution of wealth is achieved.

Immediately after French President Macron declared a "social and economic state of emergency" in response to large-scale protests by members of the Yellow Vest movement, promising a range of concessions to address their grievances, left-wing opposition politician Mélenchon called on the grassroots campaign to continue their revolution next Saturday.
"I believe that Act 5 of the citizen revolution in our country will be a moment of great mobilization."
Macron's promise of a €100 minimum wage increase, tax-free overtime pay and end-of-year bonuses, Mélenchon argued, will not affect any "considerable part" of the French population. Yet the leader of La France Insoumise stressed that the "decision" to rise up rests with "those who are in action."

Comment: Macron at least showed some contrition in his address to the nation.

The trade unions and the Left parties are clearly utterly useless.

The leftist parties lining up to goad the protests on is not a good sign.

Do they seek to co-opt the movement?

No matter, this whole episode has been a display of NATIONALIST unity against the corrupt elites.

Ultra-Orthodox Israelis clash with police during an anti-draft protest in Bnei Brak, December 10, 2018
Protesters block central road, demand no changes be made to legislation granting exemption to all seminary students

Police arrested 28 protesters during an ultra-Orthodox demonstration against the army draft that saw demonstrators disrupt traffic on a main road in the city of Bnei Brak on Monday.

Police said the demonstrators "caused disturbances and blocked roads."

Protesters sat down in the middle of Jabotinsky Road and chanted slogans against the drafting of ultra-Orthodox community members into the army, saying, "We will die and not be drafted."

Comment: The ultra-Orthodox clash with the idea of military service for Israel is deep-rooted. Reasons vary, from believing that studying Torah is more valuable than military duty, fear of yeshiva students being exposed to secular influences, to opposing the existence of Israel as a state, because they believe the Messiah to come will establish a true Jewish homeland.

How 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' led to the creation of the Muslim Brotherhood

sayyid qutb
With all the controversy that keeps popping up over Baby, It's Cold Outside. . . . and no doubt many more....

so much ado as new semantics clash with perceptions of old values, but curiously not a word, at least none I have noticed, about the role the song played in the rise of anti-Western terrorism.

Seriously .... it was a turning point in the life of the man who was to become the ideologue of Islamist terrorism, like a certain decorated corporal learning of the Treaty of Versailles . . . .

The Founder of Islamist Extremism and Terrorism
A famous tipping point for Qutb that seems to pop up frequently in any discussion of his experiences in America was a church dance, and not least the lyrics of the pop song being played, Baby It's Cold Outside.

Russia's National Guard commander, Viktor Zolotov, has filed a defamation lawsuit against, anti-corruption blogger, Aleksey Navalny. The two earlier wanted to settle their differences in a duel, but couldn't agree on the terms.

In September, a report by Navalny's NGO, the Foundation for Countering Corruption, alleged that tenders for food purchases by the National Guard were rigged in favor of a single supplier.

Zolotov now wants a Moscow court to declare that those claims didn't correspond with reality and tarnished his business reputation, his lawyer said.

The National Guard commander demands 1 million rubles ($15,000) from the opposition blogger, he said, adding that if the court rules in Zolotov's favor, the money will go to one of the orphanages.

Drunk Columbia University sophomore triggered minority students by saying he loved white men

Columbia University

A white student at Columbia University launched into a racist tirade about the virtues of white people to a group of minority students late Sunday night, according to a video of the encounter published Monday by the New York Post.

In the video, which was posted at 3:54 a.m., an apparently drunk student can be seen yelling, "We invented science and industry and you want to tell us to stop because, 'Oh my God, we're so bad!'"

The student was identified by the Columbia Daily Spectator as sophomore Julian von Abele.

In the video, he continues his rant by saying, "We saved billions of people from starvation, we built modern civilization! White people are the best thing that ever happened to the world!"

Comment: Julian von Abele says in the video that he doesn't hate other people (presumably he means people of other ethnicities), he just loves white men for what they've contributed to the world. This doesn't make him a racist. It means that he doesn't hate himself for being white and he doesn't want to follow the postmodern party line where everything white and male is intrinsically evil "because patriarchy". Unfortunately, such a position is unacceptable for the SJW thought police.

A student club at the University of London is requiring that all comedians sign a "behavioral agreement" as a condition of performing at a January comedy night.

According to emails reviewed by PJ Media, the UNICEF on Campus chapter at the University of London sent five local comedians - including Russian-born free speech advocate Konstantin Kisin - a request to perform.

"Attached is a short behavioural agreement form that we will ask for you to sign on the day to avoid problems," wrote Fisayo Eniolorunda, the club's event organizer, in an email to Kisin and four other comedians sent Sunday.

Comment: The guy was willing to work for free, and the "woke" snowflakes presumed to dictate his material? SJWs could not get any more arrogant. Twitter, where Kisin posted the contract text, responded with appropriate ridicule:
