"That type of action is hateful, no matter what the words were. There's hate behind it," Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson said, according to KOMO News. "That's the way that I feel about it."
Last week, the Mukilteo Police Department learned about the act of vandalism from an anonymous caller, who informed them about the flyers bearing "anti-Islamic" rhetoric left alongside an American flag at the intended site of the Islamic Center of Mukilteo. Titled "Ban Islam in America," the leaflets were attached to a sign that announced the construction of the mosque.
The mosque's sign was also hit by vandals.
But the additions of rat and human DNA could be harder to swallow.
A new study from US-based food testing company Clear Labs has discovered, from a sample of 258 burgers, two cases of meat in vegetarian products, three burgers with rat DNA and one case of human DNA.
"The most likely cause is hair, skin, or fingernail that was accidentally mixed in during the manufacturing process," it read, referring to the human DNA.
"What many consumers don't know is that some amounts of human and rat DNA may fall within an acceptable regulatory range," the report added.
It also found that there are "gaps" in food safety and quality standards, but overall the beef industry has "benefited from stringent regulation and aggressive testing requirements".
Of larger concern than the "unpleasant" DNA findings was that almost a quarter of vegetarian burgers have different ingredients to those on the label. Two veggie burgers contained beef, and one black bean burger contained no black beans.
Erin Caffey's manipulative actions led to the deaths of her mother and two brothers and the attempted murder of her father in 2008.
The former church pianist, who was then just 16 years old, persuaded her boyfriend, Charlie Wilkinson, 18, and his friend Charles Waid, 20, to wipe out her family, apparently after being told she couldn't see her boyfriend anymore.
One night, while Erin waited outside in a car with another friend, 18-year-old Bobbi Johnson, Wilkinson and Waid entered the Caffey family house in Emory, Texas. They repeatedly shot members of the family and used a samurai sword to stab Erin's mother, Penny, and Erin's brothers, Matthew, 13, and Tyler, 8.
Her father, Terry, was shot numerous times but managed to drag himself out of the house before it was burned to the ground by the attackers.
Comment: Erin Caffey appears to have manipulated her father into believing her lies. There are comments from objective observers who've dealt with Caffey that reveal a more likely understanding of her. Criminal therapist Israel Lewis, who worked with her after her capture, is quoted as saying, "I've never come across anyone as dangerous as Erin". That comment is probably not in reference to her physical appearance, as a woman of short stature with an All-American face. Most people never would nor could think she would capable of the things she's done. But anyone who's studied psychopathy knows, appearances mean nothing when it comes to pathology. Anyone could be a psychopath.
The list features 71 clergy members who have been accused of sexual abuse which the church found to be "credible."
Victims and advocates hope the list will allow others who suffered abuse to come forward.
The list was published in January by Archbishop William Lori, but was not publicized until the Baltimore Sun broke the story this week.
Following revelations by a Boston Globe investigative team into its city's diocese, which inspired this year's Best Picture Oscar winner "Spotlight", Baltimore's church leadership was one of the first to list accused priests publicly in 2002.
Comment: In the film version, Richard Sipe reveals that around 6% of clergymen are pedophiles. He gives a bit more detail on his website. It's hard to know whether this figure means the percent of pedophile priests is the same as the number of pedophiles in the general public, or whether they're overrepresented among the clergy. Even if the numbers are the same, the significance is this: the status of these priests gives them special access to children, potentially more than they would be able to abuse than in other positions. They were and are also 'protected' by the clergy as a whole.
On the other hand, the scandal should teach us a lesson: that pedophilia is rampant, much more so than we tend to believe. Think about it: up to 6% of people in any profession are potentially pedophiles who abuse children.
In a public opinion poll released on March 15, 28% of Americans responded that they would consider leaving the country if Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election. That once-remote possibility creeps nearer to reality with the controversial billionaire television producer securing the Republican Party nomination after rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich dropped out this week.
Trump's likely opponent, Hillary Clinton, continues to struggle in the Democratic Primary against Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and now faces a possible FBI investigation after infamous hacker Guccifer announced he had repeatedly compromised her private email server which contained improperly stored top-secret information.
Many US citizens have decided not to chance the likely instability of a Trump presidency, with a shocking 1700% surge in the number of Americans renouncing their citizenship. In the first three months of 2016, the US Treasury Department reported that a record 1,158 individuals had renounced their citizenship.
The mass drill involved dozens of people splashed with fake blood and feigning bomb injury to simulate a major terror attack in the busy shopping area.
Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan of Greater Manchester Police told Sky News Tuesday that the test was to prepare for a "suicide attack by an extremist Daesh-style organization," using the Arabic pejorative term for Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).
However, he acknowledged that "it was unacceptable to use this religious phrase immediately before the mock suicide bombing" because it "vocally linked" the exercise with Islam.
"We recognise and apologise for the offense that this has caused," he said.
Attorney John Deckers also said in a statement to The Associated Press that his client had no way of knowing that the April 21 altercation at Wilmington's Howard High School of Technology would result in the death of 16-year-old Amy Joyner-Francis.
Deckers' client, who is accused for repeatedly hitting Joyner-Francis in the head and torso, is charged with criminally negligent homicide. Prosecutors have said they will seek to have her tried as an adult. In the meantime, she is under home confinement after being released Tuesday on $13,000 unsecured bond.

Smoke and flames from the wildfires erupt behind a car on the highway near Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada, May 7, 2016
Although 90 percent of buildings in the evacuated oil sands town of Fort McMurray have survived, producers expect shutdowns for several weeks. Facilities and pipelines close to the fire need to be inspected before workers can return.
Consultancy Energy Aspects has estimated production of 1.6 million bpd will be lost.
Suncor Energy, Royal Dutch Shell, Syncrude Canada and ConocoPhillips are already preparing to bring workers back and restart plants as the fire moves away, according to Bloomberg.
Michal Moore, a professor of energy economics at the University of Calgary's School of Public Policy told the media that the plants are ready to open within a week after the threat is cleared.
The Duke University research, published in Environmental Science and Technology, highlights the possible health implications for humans and wildlife from the 3,900 reported brine spills in the region since the rise of fracking in 2007.
Some 9,700 wells have been drilled in North Dakota's Bakken shale and Bottineu oilfield region in the last 10 years, Truthout reports.
"Unlike other areas in the U.S. where decades of conventional oil and gas exploration have generated a legacy of contamination, the exploration rates of conventional oil and gas in North Dakota were significantly lower than recent unconventional operations," the Duke study says.
"Therefore, recent OGW [oil and gas wastewater] spills are directly associated with recent unconventional oil extraction."
