The money was used to settle lawsuits from more than 200 citizens over things such as wrongful deaths, physical abuses, sexual misconduct and harassment. According to the investigation, which was conducted the Asbury Park Press, not only did the majority of the officers never face charges for their actions-they often kept their jobs and were later promoted.
Nearly 65,000 internal affairs complaints have been filed since 2011, and only 226-which is less than 1 percent-resulted in the officers being charged with a crime.
The officers who resigned often received compensation, even when it was their deadly or corrupt actions that led to their resignation in the first place. The report claimed that taxpayers shelled out more than $700,000 to 68 officers as compensation for their quiet resignations. Three of those officers went on to become "gypsy cops," a phenomenon documented by The Free Thought Project that occurs when officers commit heinous offenses, and then simply transfer to a new department.

People react as former Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar listens to impact statements during the sentencing phase in Ingham County Circuit Court, on January 24, 2018, in Lansing, Michigan.
USAG said Friday that it would comply with the US Olympic Committee, which had demanded the board resign by January 13 or lose status as a sports governing body.
In an open letter on Wednesday, USOC chief operating officer Scott Blackmun called for a "full turnover of leadership."
Nassar was sentenced on Wednesday to between 40 and 175 years in prison by a judge in Michigan for sexually abusing young athletes, including winning gymnasts Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber.
Rajesh Maru, 32, was visiting an elderly female relative at Nair Hospital in Agripada in south Mumbai on Saturday evening when the freak incident happened. The patient was given an oxygen cylinder to breathe from and Maru was carrying it for her while she was taken for an MRI scan.
The machines have a strong magnetic field when operating, and patients undergoing scans are not allowed to carry metal items such as jewelry.
Maru's brother-in-law, who was also at the hospital, told police that Maru stopped at the entrance to the MRI room but was told to enter by staff who assured him the machine was switched off, reports NDTV.
The real Jessica Rychly is a Minnesota teenager with a broad smile and wavy hair. She likes reading and the rapper Post Malone. When she goes on Facebook or Twitter, she sometimes muses about being bored or trades jokes with friends. Occasionally, like many teenagers, she posts a duck-face selfie.
But on Twitter, there is a version of Jessica that none of her friends or family would recognize. While the two Jessicas share a name, photograph and whimsical bio - "I have issues" - the other Jessica promoted accounts hawking Canadian real estate investments, cryptocurrency and a radio station in Ghana. The fake Jessica followed or retweeted accounts using Arabic and Indonesian, languages the real Jessica does not speak. While she was a 17-year-old high school senior, her fake counterpart frequently promoted graphic pornography, retweeting accounts called Squirtamania and Porno Dan.
Comment: An interesting expose into the shady underworld of twitter bots, in this case, homegrown ones. Although further on in the article it states:
Former employees said the company's security team for many years was more focused on abuse by real users, including racist and sexist content and orchestrated harassment campaigns. Only recently, they said, after revelations that Russia-aligned hackers had deployed networks of Twitter bots to spread divisive content and junk news, has Twitter turned more attention to weeding out fake accounts. They state it as fact but so far, no evidence has yet to surface that proves without doubt the "Russian bots" narrative. If the Times were able to reveal so much about Devumi's tactics through their investigation, then surely they'd be able find some "proof" of Russian Twitter bots? Or perhaps they can't because there isn't any. See also:

Originally arrested for disorderly conduct, Scott was booked into jail following the attack. Those charges were later dropped. Scott hired several lawyers and sued the officer as well as the city of Fort Smith. Defense attorneys attempted to characterize Scott as only looking for a payday, while the plaintiffs insisted the attack was unprovoked. Unfortunately, the jury did not rule in favor of the brutalized man.
It took less than an hour for the jury in the federal civil rights lawsuit to rule in favor of Deleon. Even the local media reported Scott simply fell on his face as he was being escorted to jail. According to Arkansas Online:
"I've declared the state of emergency in San Lorenzo and Eloy Alfaro to strengthen the security of the citizens and the border, as well as to strengthen the attention of the Health, Inclusion, Risks and Housing Ministries for an integrated solution," the country's president Lenin Moreno said on Twitter on Saturday afternoon in the aftermath of the morning blast.
There were no fatalities in what the president described as a "terrorist act linked to drug trafficking and criminal groups," but at least 28 people were injured in the powerful blast - including 14 officers, according to local media.
The bizarre incident allegedly took place in Rukpoku, less than 20 kilometers north of the city of Port Harcourt in southern Nigeria, according to the Daily Post.
A 36-year-old man was seen being followed around by a black goat, which somehow raised suspicions among locals who accused him of Voodooism. They reportedly suspected him of using magic to transform a human into the animal which was now chasing him.
The Nigerian newspaper report that mob then attacked the man, beating him until he lost consciousness. The beating could have been even more severe if not for the intervention of security forces who broke up the altercation.

“Now it’s like basically anything you say about yourself may end up getting leaked to score political points in a lawsuit,” one employee says.
Now outspoken diversity advocates at Google say that they are being targeted by a small group of their coworkers in an effort to silence discussions about racial and gender diversity.
In interviews with Wired, 15 current Google employees accuse coworkers of inciting outsiders to harass rank-and-file employees who are minority advocates, including queer and transgender employees. Since August, screenshots from Google's internal discussion forums, including personal information, have been displayed on sites including Breitbart andVox Popoli, a blog run by alt-right author Theodore Beale, who goes by the name Vox Day. Other screenshots were included in a 161-page lawsuit that Damore filed in January, alleging that Google discriminates against whites, males, and conservatives.
Comment: Although the author is making appearances of maintaining a neutral stance, it's obvious that she's drunk the "diversity" koolaid and is defending the 'oppressed' against the evil white patriarchy. While it's undoubtedly true that some of these diversity advocates are being harassed by being doxed to outside sites (trolls can be cruel), it's paranoid and disingenuous to say "this was their plan all along! To goad us into saying things and then exposing it to the world!"
