A huge fireball has been seen rising over a port in Dubai as the UAE's largest city was rocked by a major blast. The blaze broke out within a container stored on a ship anchored in the Jebel Ali port, the city government has said.

Local residents reported hearing a loud bang across the city late on Wednesday, with some eyewitnesses posting footage and photos of the blaze in the distance. It's not clear what caused the incident.

Opinion: What is Trump to Us?

To be worthy of following, post-Trump leadership must become consistent in deed with the insight that vaulted Donald Trump to public attention.
Donald Trump
Donald Trump became the political vehicle for the American people's resentment of an overweening, corrupt ruling class. Trump's invaluable contribution to the Republic was to lead Americans publicly to disrespect that class.

Americans elected Trump to preserve freedoms and prosperity against the encroachments of that class. But instead, he became the catalyst by which that class cohered to transform the American Republic into an oligarchy.

During Trump's presidency, more wealth passed from ordinary Americans to oligarchs, and more freedoms were lost than anyone imagined possible. As we consider how to remedy these losses, Trump's fateful combination of things said and unsaid, of things done and not done, must be part of our search for the persons and policies most likely to lead republican Americans out of our quandary.

UK schools are 'overtly' politicising sex & gender issues - British education watchdog warns

British education watchdog Ofsted has warned that schools are using "overtly political materials" to instruct students on sex, sexual orientation and gender reassignment due to "increasing political sensitivities" in these areas.

Recent research by Ofsted into how gender issues are taught in schools found that staff sometimes "inadvertently" include political material in their classes.

Summarising the findings, Ofsted corporate strategy director Chris Jones identified one such instance in which schools and parents did not "see eye-to-eye" on the "content and age-appropriateness" of materials used to teach primary school children about same-sex relationships.

Comment: Laws suddenly being rolled out across Europe may make it increasingly difficult for schools to resist the warped ideological propaganda:

Twitter bemoans 'snowflake generation' after UK regulator re-rates 'violent', 'discriminatory' films such as Rocky and Flash Gordon

Classics films including Star Wars, Rocky and Flash Gordon have had their content advisory ratings ratcheted up by Britain's film-screening board, in what has been described as a victory for 'woke' culture.

In a newly-released report outlining its activities during 2020, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) explained why it issued new ratings for popular titles such as Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Rocky, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring and Flash Gordon.

The organisation reclassified several fan favourites from Parental Guidance (PG) to 12A, meaning no child under the age of 12 should watch without adult supervision. Films with PG ratings are considered appropriate for children around eight and up.

For example, the iconic 1976 boxing drama Rocky was initially given a PG rating, but its 2020 theatrical re-release was slapped with a 12A label for "moderate violence, mouthed strong language and domestic abuse."

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was similarly "reclassified upwards" to 12A for moderate fantasy violence, bringing it in line with the other two films in the trilogy.

NY Governor Andrew Cuomo
Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday declared a state of "disaster emergency" over gun violence across New York — and announced $138 million in new spending to try to stop the surge in shootings.

Speaking at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan, Cuomo said:
"Gun violence and crime should be the top priority for every mayor in this state because every city has been affected by it. It's a matter of saving lives — and New York's future depends on it. People are not coming back to this city — they are not coming back to any city — until they know it's safe."
Cuomo made no mention of hiring more cops, although he said he wanted to "rebuild the police-community relationship."

Comment: How is this guy still in office? A leader in saving lives? That's a joke, right?

Russia's FSB security agency announced on Tuesday that it had detained Estonia's top diplomat in the country's second city, St. Petersburg. Consul Mart Laette is accused of receiving "classified materials" from a Russian citizen.

In a statement issued through the agency's press service, officials said that Laette has been taken into custody after being "caught red-handed while receiving materials of a classified nature from a Russian citizen."

The FSB stated that such activities
"are incompatible with the status of a diplomatic representative and are clearly hostile in nature towards the Russian Federation. Measures will be applied to the foreign envoy in accordance with the norms of international law."
However, responding to the allegations, Estonian government officials said that the detention was "a set up" and the charges against Laette were "groundless."

Woman receives Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in Arequipa, Peru
Scientists fear that a highly contagious new COVID-19 variant that is ravaging Peru may be resistant to vaccines.

The lambda mutation, or C.37, appears to have emerged in Peru last August — and is being blamed for the country having the highest pandemic death rate in the world.

The concerning strain has since spread to around 30 countries, mostly in Latin America — but also as far as the UK, which has recorded at least eight cases, according to government figures. There are no known cases of the lambda strain in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In Peru, lambda has accounted for 81 percent of new infections tested for variants since April, according to the World Health Organization. The South American nation currently has by far the highest mortality rate in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Israeli security forces confront Palestinians gathering outside the Israeli Central Court in east Jerusalem on June 10, 2021, during a protest over Israel's planned evictions of Palestinian families from homes in the eastern sector's Silwan district
The Israeli-run municipality of Jerusalem has called for the eviction of 100 Palestinian families from their homes under the pretext that they were built without permits, Shehab news agency reported on Sunday. Once the families are evicted, said local media, they will be demolished to make way for the construction of a "biblical park" for use by illegal settlers.

According to Arieh King, the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, the municipality proposed to the Palestinian residents that they can be moved elsewhere, but they refused. "God gave us this land, and who are we to give this land to somebody else? The law is the law. Any illegal building should be demolished in Jerusalem."

Bustan neighbourhood, he confirmed, is going to be demolished for "a park, public buildings, street lights, everything." As a leader in the settler movement, King planning for more settlers to move to occupied Jerusalem in order to ensure that "it is the eternal Jewish capital".
