Russian online media outlet Mash has published footage showing the exact moment when 19-year-old shooter Ilnaz Galyaviev entered Kazan's High School No. 175, shortly before he opened fire on students early on Tuesday morning.

In the video, posted online after the assailant was captured, Galyaviev can be seen walking up to the school and pointing a weapon at someone just outside the building.

Another clip, also published by Mash, shows the killer walking down a Kazan street, carrying a firearm in his hand. Filmed at 9:24am local time, Galyaviev is seen wearing a mask and waving his gun at a passer-by.

According to local authorities, Galyaviev went on to kill one teacher and seven students, sending many more to hospital. Reports from news agency RIA Novosti suggest that two of the pupils had died after jumping out of the window to escape gunfire.

Prior to the terrorist attack, Galyaviev had announced his intention to kill on social media, calling himself a "god."

Kazan is located around 700 kilometers east of Moscow and is the capital of Tatarstan, a Muslim-majority republic. With over 1.2 million residents, Kazan is often referred to as the 'third capital of Russia.'

Following the shooting, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered National Guard head Viktor Zolotov to begin an emergency review of gun laws and impose new restrictions on the types of weapons that can be owned by civilians.

Media in the country named the suspect as 19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviev, identified as a former student at School No. 175, where the attack took place on Tuesday morning. He had subsequently gone on to study at the nearby TISBI management university, but a spokesperson for the college told Moscow's RBC that he had been expelled after falling behind on his studies.

The source told reporters that Galyaviev had "shown himself to be a quiet and non-abrasive student during his studies. He was always neat and calm, and respectful of fellow students and teachers." The teenager had apparently stopped attending classes in January and lost touch with tutors. "He did not appear to defend his industrial experience project or to sit three state exams, as a result of which he was expelled," the press office added.

Last week, Galyaviev is reported to have set up a channel on the Telegram service, with messages purporting to be from "God." In a series of comments written last Thursday, the account announced that "I am like a God."

The account went on to say that the population of the world were his "slaves," and should kill each other before ultimately killing themselves. He added that there should be no living creatures left in the world, and that life was a "mistake of the universe."

Prior to the shooting, he is reported to have written that he would kill a large number of people before ending his own life. A photograph posted to the channel showed a man resembling the one detained by police posing for a selfie while wearing what appears to be a combat vest and a face covering, emblazoned with the word "Bog," or "God" in Russian.

The Baza news site quotes Galyaviev's father as saying that his son was "not religious, and he never expressed or showed any bad thoughts or ideas."

Rustam Minnikhanov, the president of the majority Muslim Russian region of Tatarstan, where Kazan is located, said that Galyaviev was a registered firearm owner.

Speaking to journalists later on Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had given an order to begin an emergency review of gun control legislation. "The fact is that sometimes types of small arms are registered as hunting weapons, which in some countries are defined as assault rifles and so on," he said. "This, too, will be urgently worked out by the Russian Guard."

Extinction Rebellion trial delayed after defendant dons pink eye mask & GLUES HIMSELF to courtroom table

The trial of climate change activists accused of blocking a roadway last year in Hertfordshire took an unexpected turn, after one of the defendants glued his hand to the dock and began lecturing the presiding judge.

Liam Norton and five other Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists have been charged with using vehicles and large bamboo structures to obstruct roads near the Newsprinters printing works in Broxbourne in September. The disruptive protest halted the delivery of an estimated 3.5 million copies of newspapers. The Daily Mail, the Daily Telegraph and the Times are all printed at the site. XR UK defended the civil disobedience, accusing the press of dividing and distracting people during a "climate emergency". Extinction Rebellion said it had specifically targeted Rupert Murdoch's newspapers because they were "polluting the national debate on climate change" and obfuscating other important issues, such as the refugee crisis.

At the opening of the case at St Albans Magistrates' Court, the 36-year-old put on a pink eye mask and began filming the proceedings on his iPhone.

"I would like to make clear that what's going on in this courtroom today is completely absurd," he said.

District Judge Sally Fudge called for his phone to be confiscated, to which Norton responded that it was glued to his hand. He had apparently glued his other hand to the table at which he was sitting, for good measure.

Despite protests from the judge, the activist continued with his speech, claiming he was compelled to disobey the court due to "decades" of "organised criminality in this country".

He further accused the UK government of showing "contempt for the planet", and challenged the judge and prosecutors to stop serving and defending "criminality".

After Norton had lectured the courtroom for about a minute and a half, a security guard appeared. Moments later, the phone was knocked from his hand, suggesting the glue had either not been very effective, or was non-existent.

The adhesive he had used to bind himself to the table seemed to have done a better job. According to the BBC, it took police two hours to remove him before the trial could continue.

The judge later condemned Norton for his "particularly disruptive" behavior and expressed her concern that he would likely try to halt proceedings again were he allowed back in court.

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza exclave rose to 65 by Wednesday night, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said.

"Sixty-five Palestinians died in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in the past two days, including 16 children and five women, while 365 others were wounded," he said.

Israel has reported seven deaths, including a soldier and a six-year-old. It responded to barrages of rockets fired from Gaza by pounding Gazan cities with airstrikes and leveling three high-rises.

Israel and Palestine's Hamas have exchanged hundreds of rocket strikes since cross-border violence erupted on Monday night. It was sparked by days of clashes in East Jerusalem and the eviction of several Palestinian families from their homes in the disputed city.
