Massachusetts supreme court rules black men have legitimate reason to run from police

Based on the disproportionate number of police stops of black males in Boston and a state law that does not require individuals to speak to police or remain in their presence, Massachusetts' highest court ruled that a black man had reason to flee police.

The case before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court was based on the gun conviction of Jimmy Warren, who was arrested in December 2011 while Roxbury police investigated a break-in. Based on a description of "dark clothing," police approached Warren and another man. The pair ran from the cops, but were later searched and arrested. Warren was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm even though he was not armed at the time of his arrest. An unlicensed gun had been recovered by police in a nearby yard, WBUR reported, and Warren was eventually convicted.

A suspicious duffel bag left outside the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles prompted the arrival of a police bomb squad and the closure of some downtown streets, authorities said.

An unidentified man was seen dropping off a duffel bag about 8:15 p.m. outside the building, which houses a federal courthouse and offices for the U.S. Marshals, among other agencies, according to Officer Jenny Houser of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD's bomb squad was called to the building in the 200 block of East Temple Street, and found the bag did not pose a threat.

The bag contained personal items, police said.

Church, parents fail to report Colorado pastor's pedophilia because 'biblical counseling' would solve problem

A church in Thornton, Colorado has come under fire after court documents revealed this week that it failed to report a pastor's sexual abuse to police because it believed the problem could be solved with "biblical counseling."

Local news station KDVR reports that Pastor Robert Wyatt repeatedly had sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl who was parishioner at the Agape Bible Church in Thornton. What's even more disturbing about this case, however, is the fact that court documents show church officials knew about Wyatt's sexual abuse and did nothing.

According to an arrest affidavit for Wyatt, both head pastor Darrell Ferguson and the 12-year-old girl's adoptive parents agreed that it would be best to not go to the police because they were concerned about what would happen to Wyatt.

Instead, the affidavit claims, the church and the parents agreed that "biblical counseling they would receive through the church was sufficient" to fixing the problem.

The officer who interviewed the girl's adoptive father said that the man "made it clear his interest was in protecting the church and its reputation more than protecting his daughter."

Police only learned about the pastor's abuse because another parishioner told them about it after being disgusted by the church's inaction.

Shades of Fahrenheit 451: Did NYC's mass-text manhunt set a precedent?

Yesterday morning, millions of phones across New York City's five boroughs blared with a siren-like alarm and an ominous message. "Wanted: Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28-yr-old male. See media for pic," it said. "Call 9-1-1 if seen." Though the text didn't mention it, Rahami was wanted for questioning over a Saturday bombing in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea — hours later, he would be arrested in Linden, New Jersey, where he was found sleeping in the doorway of a bar.

At a press conference after Rahami was apprehended, newly sworn NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill said the phone alert had given police a pivotal advantage. "It gets everybody involved. It's that sense of shared responsibility," said O'Neill. "If we can get everybody in the city engaged in helping us keep it safe, I think this is the way to go. This is the future."

Comment: What a way to ramp up the fear and immediately plant thoughts into the minds of millions of people. Once can only expect more government mass texts in the future.

Israeli guards have shot and injured an unarmed 13-year-old Palestinian girl after she refused to stop at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank. The area has seen a recent spike in violence with shootings and stabbing attacks occurring in the past few days.

The incident took place at a crossing near the settlement of Alfei Menashe and the Palestinian town of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday.

The teenager was carrying a bag, which raised suspicion from Israeli guards. She approached the checkpoint on foot, Israel's Defense Ministry said. The checkpoint is a car-only crossing and does not allow pedestrians to walk through it.

German police special forces (SEK) have arrested a 16-year-old refugee from Syria in Cologne after allegations he had become radicalized and prayed for Islamic State. Three migrants were slightly injured during the operation.

The SEK raided a temporary refugee camp in Cologne's Porz district on Tuesday, arresting a 16-year-old boy named Mohammad.

"According to the information by the State Security Service the teen has radicalized himself in a very short time," the statement by the Cologne police reads.

"The evaluation of the available evidence pointed to a serious threat," the press release adds.

Police also confirmed that three refugees sustained minor injuries while trying to escape the migrant camp after law enforcers moved in. The facility currently houses some 200 refugees.

Encouraged segregation: Universities offering separate school events, dorm housing to black students

Black segregation protesters

Comment: The ponerization of young minds continues.

Back-to-school activities kicked into high gear in recent weeks as the fall semester began, and in addition to the typical orientations that greet all students, several universities hosted additional events specifically for black students.

They're billed as ways to enhance black students' experiences on campus and get them comfortable and involved with their schools. While segregation of the past has a negative connotation, today its general definition — to set apart from the rest, isolate or divide — describes what's going on at universities in which special events are designed for students of color, and often specifically for black students.

California State University Fresno recently held a three-day student retreat for black students, for example. The $16,000 undertaking in August included a trip to a water park, skits, and talks of encouragement from professors and peers.

It was hosted so that "new and continuing African-American students, along with African-American faculty, staff and alumni, could exchange ideas of how to create a greater sense of belonging on campus," according to Fresno State President Joseph Castro.

George Mason University also recently hosted a "Black Freshman Orientation" that sought to "introduce the incoming freshman class to George Mason from the perspective of Black students,"according to a description of the event on the school's website.

Georgia 11-year-old who took knife to school says she needed it to fend off clowns

Police say a fearful 11-year-old Georgia girl who took a knife to school told officers she needed the weapon to fend off clowns.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the girl was arrested Friday at Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School in Athens amid reports and social media posts about clowns frightening children in Georgia and other states.

An Athens-Clarke County police report states the girl said she needed the knife to protect her and her family because she had heard the stories about clowns jumping out of the woods and attacking children.

Police say they released the girl to her mother on a charge of possession of a weapon on school grounds.

In neighboring Alabama, law enforcement officials are warning that people involved in a rash of creepy clown hoaxes across the state could be prosecuted.

Beck's disintegration continues: Ex-exec sues 'erratic,' 'reckless,' 'paranoid' Glenn Beck

© Jose Luis Magana/AP
The abrupt end of a beautiful friendship—nearly two decades of mutual admiration between struggling media entrepreneur Glenn Beck and his fired top executive, Christopher Balfe—has become a legal battle of ugly accusations that only promise to get uglier.

"Beck has driven [Mercury Radio Arts, Beck's wholly owned private umbrella company] into the ground due to his own erratic behavior, excessive spending, and mismanagement," Balfe alleges in a countersuit filed Monday afternoon in Dallas County, Texas, District Court—a response to Beck's July 29 lawsuit accusing his former protégé of fraud, breach of contract, dereliction of duty and various other misdeeds.

Balfe—whom Beck quietly fired in December 2014 while publicly lavishing praise—is demanding more than $3 million in deferred compensation and unpaid bonuses and legal fees, as well as unspecified "exemplary," or punitive, damages.

Comment: Glenn Becks looks as if he continues to disintegrate into his own pathological, grandiose lies to himself. Perhaps it is a total disconnect from objective reality and lies he has told and believes that have caused this disintegration as mentioned in the SOTT comment at the end of this article:
Andrew Lobaczewski in his seminal work, Political Ponerology - A Science on the Nature of Evil Adjusted for Political Purposes, talked about "the first criterion for ponerogenesis" being the atrophy of critical faculties.

One of the reasons this particular point is so interesting is because we at SOTT.net have observed this "turning into half-wits" over and over again. It's the damnedest thing! The instant an individual makes a decision to believe a lie, it's as though their ability to use accurate reasoning about anything else - not just a contentious item - grinds to a halt.

Which, of course, leads to the consideration of Faith itself. Soren Kierkegaard suggested that religion is, of its essence, not persuasion of the truth of a doctrine, but commitment to a position which is inherently absurd. Human beings attain their identity by believing something that deeply offends their minds (or others). To exist, he says, we must believe, and to really believe means to believe something that is dreadfully hard to believe. You can't just believe something plausible because that is easy...So, for some people, it may be that believing lies is some kind of proof that they are in control of their choices, they aren't being pushed around or dominated by irritating things like facts and evidence.

We wonder if lying, holding onto a lie, even if one is only lying to the self (and in case of Glenn Beck is being an intentionally lying presstitute of the PTB), causes some kind of damage to this area of the brain? Or, if not actual damage, just sets up a pattern of activity that affects other areas of the brain in a detrimental way? One suspects that even when people believe a lie that some part of their brain knows the truth and they know, at some level, that they are lying or believing lies (which amounts to lying to the self).

We also wonder what kinds of results would show up doing these kinds of scans on psychopaths? Do psychopaths know they are lying in all cases? And if that is the case, does it have the same physiological effect on them as it does on an individual with a conscience?

Just a whole lot of thoughts and questions...
