Vice President Mike Pence held the rally in the Waterford Township of Detroit. It took place less than 48 hours after the Pittsburgh Synagogue tragedy and was opened by a rabbi who held a prayer to honor the victims.
Rabbi Loren Jacobs represents the Messianic synagogue Shema Yisrael based in Michigan. Though the followers call themselves members of Messianic Judaism, a combination of Christianity and Judaism, many of the main Jewish movements refuse to accept them as 'true' Jews.
Pence couldn't possibly "have done something more offensive to Jews" than choose Jacobs to open the rally, people on Twitter were quick to point out.

Matt Drudge hosting his show on Fox News in 1999 and the Fox News panel he criticized on October 29, 2018.
On Monday, Drudge broke his silence on Twitter to criticize Fox News for making light of the political climate in America. He posted screenshots of smiling Fox panelists, whose cheerfulness apparently clashed with the phrase "Questions on how mail-bomb scare, synagogue attack could impact midterm voters eight days from now" below.
"Not even 48 hours since blood flowed at synagogue? Check your soul in the makeup chair!" he wrote.
Ashleigh and Bliss Coulter from Mountain Springs, Texas both wanted to experience carrying their child and, thanks to a novel IVF method, known as reciprocal effortless in vitro fertilization, this was able to become a reality.
"This represents the first time that two women have both physically carried their child together," fertility specialist Dr. Kathy Doody of The Center for Assisted Reproduction told CBS11.
Doctors from Doody's clinic placed a capsule containing Bliss's eggs fertilized with donor sperm into Bliss's body, creating a kind of incubator for the cells, keeping them warm and shedding any toxins.

The Scandinavian commercial flight from Manchester to Bilund, Denmark, was hit by the laser at 18:45 GMT on Sunday.
A spokesman for the force stated that the "captain of the flight reported to National Air Traffic Services (NATS) that he was over the Ottringham Beacon and had the cockpit illuminated by a laser coming from a coastal town to the starboard (right) side of aircraft.
"The NATS team have assessed the flight's path and location and have assessed that it came from the Grimsby area."
The list, which includes names and addresses, was found in the van where he is believed to have lived and constructed the devices. Sources familiar with the probe say Sayoc told FBI agents and other authorities that he did not mean to hurt the targets during a brief interview at their South Florida field office.
The fifteenth envelope - a third mailing destined for CNN headquarters in Atlanta after two earlier packages were sent to the station's New York offices - was intercepted Monday afternoon at a postal facility.
Comment: The Twitterati weighed in almost immediately, as hundreds of armchair detectives dug into Sayoc's background and cast scorn of the over-the-top van decals and amateurish "bomb" construction. Many remarked on the fact that the postage stamps on the packages were never cancelled, and how would a nobody find George Soros' home address to make a delivery.
Has some operative group overplayed their hand?
Then they took a closer look, the station reported.
"It was decomposed and had a little bit of flesh on it," Sgt. Michael Cardoza told KGO. "I can say in my years of service I've never had a human skull delivered to the police station."
Two visitors to an Oakland apartment complex had discovered the decaying head in the backyard earlier Friday morning, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. They decided to take it to police.
"They thought it was real enough that it had to be brought to our attention immediately," Cardoza told KGO.

Stretching through Arctic waters, the Northern Sea Route is operated within Russia’s Exclusive Economic Zone. The passage is gradually becoming a major trade route for goods shipped between Europe and Asia.
The volume of cargo transported through the route totaled 13 million tons as of October 1, marking a significant increase against three million tons shipped five years ago, according to Kalashnikov, who heads the navigational, hydrographic, and hydro-meteorological department.
Cargo shipping in Russia's northernmost territorial waters has increased by more than four times since 2013, according to Aleksandr Kalashnikov, the department head at the Northern Sea Route Administration.

The helpline is a two-year pilot project organized by local authorities in the nation's capital of Stockholm and the southern region of Skane, where Sweden's third-largest city Malmo is located. The service will start accepting calls in January.
While confidential helplines for abuse victims are already commonplace, providing support to the abusers themselves is a novel approach, one the organizers say will help them overcome shame, make amends, and stop hurting their loved ones.
Comment: And is there any research data to show this approach actually works? We guess we will find out...
There is "no obvious way of getting into contact with those perpetrating the violence," but this project can change that, project leader Christina Ericson told state broadcaster SVT.
Trained social workers and psychologists will be ready to advise and counsel the perpetrators who want to stop hurting their partners. They will also work with people who experience thoughts of beating their loved ones, and help them to avoid violence.

Clashes in Athens as Greek students demonstrate against a draft bill changing university entrance requirements
Some 2,000 people, most of them youth, took to the streets of Athens on Monday to demonstrate against a draft bill altering requirements for university entrance.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) noted four earthquakes from 11.30am until 11.58am, which the first measuring 1.1 on the magnitude scale. The others measured -0.2, -0.4, and 0.1.
In a statement, Cuadrilla said the "micro seismic event measuring 1.1ML (local magnitude) was detected" while fracking was taking place at its exploration site in Preston New Road, Little Plumpton.
Comment: In an area which rarely experiences earthquakes, that it was caused by fracking is clear.
"This is the latest micro seismic event to be detected by the organisation's highly sophisticated monitoring systems and verified by the British Geological Survey (BGS)," it said.
"This will be classed as a 'red' event as part of the traffic light system operated by the Oil and Gas Authority but as we have said many times this level is way below anything that can be felt at surface and a very long way from anything that would cause damage or harm.

Comment: Drudge seems to have knocked a screw loose! Seems in his outrage he missed the message about the value of civility during tragedies. In any case, we're seeing more and more of this rabid misconstruction of reality. The social climate has been primed for people to take offense at pretty much anything and interpret intentions in the worst light possible. People appear to be quickly losing the ability to discern information within context. It seems relational understanding is being bypassed in favor of impulsive and aggressive emotion, which is perversely given the full authority of truth by its mere existence. This is a growing trend, fostered in no small part out of the acceptance of 'accusation as fact' craze in the anti-Russian crusade and the #metoo movement.
