French take pole position behind US in latest military action as UK defence cuts leave it ill-equipped for illegal bombing of Syria

Britain was forced to take a backseat in this weekend's US-led military action in Syria as defense cuts left the country without a single warship and just a few dinosaur jets.

Once in lock-step, the UK has seemingly been leapfrogged by France as the US' 'special' friend, with the French providing significantly more military support than the British in Donald Trump's recent attack on Syria.

While Prime Minister Theresa May sought to highlight Britain's military might by declaring, following the attack, that she was confident the strikes had been a "success," little was said about the diminished role played by UK forces in the operation. Ongoing cuts to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) meant the UK's equipment was either too old or too weak to be involved.

The concept of "diversity" has such a lovely ring to it, conjuring up romantic notions of being forward-thinking and living harmoniously in society. But what if diversity is being used as a way to justify discrimination?

On April 4, documents obtained by a group suing Harvard University demonstrated that the university's admissions process has been discriminating against Asian applicants for decades.

As discussed in a complaint filed by 64 Asian-American organizations in 2015, affirmative action requires the SAT scores of Asian applicants to be hundreds of points higher than applicants from other ethnic backgrounds. It has reached a point where mixed-raced Asian applicants will choose to hide their Asian heritage when they apply to Ivy League schools.

The case echoes discrimination documented by former YouTube recruiter, Arne Wilberg, in a recent lawsuit against its parent company, Google. In the suit, Mr. Wilberg alleges that Google implemented diversity quotas that favoured female, Hispanic or black applicants, and discriminated against white and Asian men. Mr. Wilberg contends he was fired for challenging these illegal practices.

'No release of chemicals - best proof there were none'

An engineer at the now-bombed-out research facility north of Damascus, which the US claims was the heart of Syria's chemical weapons program, says the labs were making medicine and testing toys for safety.

RT Arabic correspondents have visited one of the main targets of the US-led missile attack on Syria, the Scientific Studies and Research Center in the Barzeh district in northern Damascus. The three-story building was pelted with 57 Tomahawk missiles launched from US warships and 19 air-to-surface missiles, the Pentagon said.

The massive bombardment left it lying in ruins, with its walls and roof almost completely collapsed and lab equipment scattered around.

Comment: There is no 'chem mystery' here. The West would rather bomb innocent facilities than read repetitious yearly reports by the OPCW inspectors and abide by their findings.

RNC launches 'Lyin' Comey' website

The Republican National Committee (RNC), the organization that provides leadership and funding for the official Republican Party of the United States, has put its reputation on the line along with every Republican that's running for public office in November by setting up an official RNC website calling former FBI Director James Comey "Lyin' Comey."

It has been the longstanding position of President Donald Trump that Comey is a liar. Trump fired Comey in the midst of the FBI's investigation into Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election and has disparaged him ever since. Comey is highly respected by the rank and file of the FBI, the most esteemed law enforcement agency in the United States.

The RNC has apparently taken Trump's personal loyalty pledge - the one Comey says he refused to take when asked by the President. But there's no escape hatch for the rest of the Republican Party if Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe exposes the President as the serial liar, and potentially worse. (The Washington Post has already chronicled 2,001 lies the President told in his first year in office.)

However, when you scroll down you see quotes from Democrats who suggested Comey did not do a good job: Nancy Pelosi suggested shortly after the election that Comey was 'not in the right job'." The website then directs you to click for more facts and directs you to the factually mixed GOP.com. This website is new and more content will be added as they have promised to fact check and refute claims in Comey's new book. This source will require fact checking.

Ahead of the release of his much-anticipated memoir, former FBI director James Comey has spoken to ABC about his views on Donald Trump, Trump's nemesis Hillary Clinton, as well as Russia. RT has picked 5 most interesting scoops.

Comey is the latest author set to make a fortune from a damning tell-all book about Trump. Titled A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, his book paints a predictably unflattering picture of Trump, who fired Comey in May 2017 over his handling of the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private server for classified emails during her time as secretary of state. Speculations about Trump's potential ties to the Kremlin keep swirling without producing much in the way of evidence. Asked if he believes Moscow could possibly be holding Trump on a tight leash, Comey essentially said that he has no clue.

"I think it's possible. I don't know. These are more words I never thought I'd utter about a president of the United States, but it's possible," he told ABC News' chief anchor, George Stephanopoulos, before adding that it "always struck and still strikes" him as "unlikely."

Most mainstream US media chose to latch onto the "it's possible" part, though.

US television channel CBS appear to have wrongly reported the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush, who is in fact still alive but gravely ill.

The blunder occurred on Sunday following reports that the health of Mrs Bush, wife of former US President George H W Bush, is failing. It's understood she has declined further medical care. Bush served as the 37th first lady of the US from 1989 until 1993.

CBS News appears to have accidentally published an obituary article prepared for when 92-year-old first lady does pass away. According to reports in the US, the first lines of the article described Bush as a "witty, gregarious matriarch" before informing readers of her mistaken death.

Barbara Bush, the witty, gregarious matriarch of a political dynasty that propelled two of its members to the White House and dominated Republican politics for decades, has died after a series of recent hospitalizations. She was 92. A Bush family spokesperson said Bush passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones," the CBS News article reportedly said.

US President Donald Trump's approval rating has climbed to 51 percent, according to the conservative-leaning Rasmussen polling group.

The poll revealed that 39 percent of likely American voters "strongly disapprove" of the way Trump is performing, while 35 percent "strongly approve" of the job he is doing.

The research, released on Monday morning, comes in the aftermath of military action taken by the Trump administration in Syria late last Friday. The US, along with the United Kingdom and France, launched strikes against Syrian government positions in retaliation for an alleged chemical attack in the city of Douma.
