A far-right mayor in France has made headlines for his anti-Muslim rhetoric once again, saying that being French means being "European, white, and Catholic." Now, an anti-racism organization has announced it is taking legal action against the politician.

Robert Ménard, the far-right mayor of the southern French town of Béziers, told French news channel LCI that being French means, "in the words of Charles De Gaulle, being European, white and Catholic."

He went on to complain that 91 percent of children in some French schools are Muslim.

"Naturally, that is a problem," he said, adding that there are "thresholds in tolerance."

Responding to the mayor's inflammatory comments, anti-racism organization LICRA announced on Twitter that it has submitted a complaint to the Prosecutor's Office, accusing Ménard of hate speech.

A twisted case of incestuous marriage between a mother and daughter, who tied the knot before unsuspecting Oklahoma officials, has landed the two behind bars after they were arrested for having lived as a couple for nearly half a year.

Patricia, 43, and Misty Spann, 25, got married on March 25 and received their certificate four days after that, officially approving their union in the city of Duncan.

This story could have been a random case for local authorities, except it was not between just the two women, but a mother and her biological daughter.

They managed to live as newlyweds until August, when the truth surface during a routine investigation by Department of Human Services to check on children dwelling in Spann's house.

The sophisticated training facility in the southern Russian city of Gudermes is to be officially opened this autumn, but it has already attracted much attention from elite counter-terrorism units from all over the world, said Daniil Martynov, the head of the Chechen Republic's aide in charge of law enforcement agencies.

"We will invite US-based private experts with experience in, say, shooting training, to conduct workshops," Martynov told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

"We collect the best [training] practices from all across the world and then integrate them at our center," he added.

Michelle Oquendo is holding her son Prince a little tighter after a scary bus mishap, on what was supposed to be his first day of kindergarten. "He was so excited. So excited," said Oquendo. I have pictures of him. He was ready to go."

The 5-year-old ended up spending four and a half hours alone on the school bus in 85-degree temperatures after his bus driver neglected to drop him off at Monocacy Elementary Center.

"I cried myself to sleep," Prince said. No one knew he was still on the bus until Oquendo called the school when the bus did not drop him off at noon. New Rhoads Transportation staff then checked the bus, which was sitting in the company lot. "It was traumatizing to me. He was hot, sweaty. He didn't even know who I was at first," she said.

Daniel Boone Area School District Superintendent James Harris says the transportation company, contracted by the school district, immediately terminated the bus driver. "Generally, the drivers check for backpacks, water bottles. The driver didn't do that," said Harris. He adds that the district dropped the ball as well by not calling Oquendo when her son was marked as absent.

A woman accused of setting two blankets and a control panel on fire during a jetBlue flight to Puerto Rico has been arrested by the FBI.

The woman, identified as Idializ Gomez, used a lighter to burn the items during a flight on Tuesday that departed from New York, the agency said on Wednesday.

She was taken into custody and charged with destruction of aircraft or aircraft facilities after landing in the southern coastal town of Ponce.

Gomez had boarded Flight 745 from John F Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday at approximately 12.43am, according to the FBI.

During the flight she used a lighter 'to ignite and successfully damage two blankets and a portion of the in-flight control panel of the seat next to hers,' the agency said.

After the plane landed at Mercedita International Airport in Ponce at approximately 4.31am, she was detained by police before being placed in FBI custody.

An ingenious new contraption that combines an alarm clock with a sex toy has proved so popular, the company that produces it has run out of stock.

The British-made Little Rooster, designed to wake women up by replacing the much-hated alarm bell with pleasurable vibrations, will not be available until at least October.

Sex trainer Charlotte Rose told RT that she believes this could help women suffering from certain sexual issues. She said "This looks like a great little device for women who may be suffering from low libido due to natural events such as menopause."

Priced at £69 ($92), the buzzing plastic gadget is meant to be placed in the user's underwear overnight. When it goes off, it will throb and vibrate until switched off. The vibrations, which begin gently then increase in intensity, are said to provide users with a gentle wake up call.

Composer, who backs boycott of Israeli government, says Batsheva cannot use his music at embassy-sponsored event

The composer and producer Brian Eno has denied permission for one of Israel's most critically acclaimed dance companies to continue using his music for a series of performances in Italy after he discovered that the Israeli embassy was sponsoring the event.

Eno, 68, who started his career with Roxy Music but has latterly become known for his ambient music compositions, said he had not been aware his music was being used in a piece by the Batsheva dance company.

Eno, a prominent supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign aimed at Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories, wrote to the dance company this week to deny them permission to use his music.

Eno is also one of 1,700 artists who have signed the Artists' Pledge for Palestine, refusing funding from or cultural contacts with Israel's government.

Comment: Both Brian Eno and Roger Waters have bravely spoken out against the apartheid Israeli regime.

Historian explains why no one should stand for the US national anthem

Dr. Gerald Horne
Dr. Gerald Horne: “like DNA [that is] hard to obscure, the anthem perfectly captures the national essence” of the United States
As Colin Kaepernick's choice to remain seated for the US national anthem continues to highlight and provoke conversation about racism and oppression in the country, I asked attorney and Professor of African American studies at the University of Houston, Dr. Gerald Horne, for his reaction to some of the issues that have been brought to the fore.

The 35 year-old who wrote the US national anthem, Francis Scott Key, appears to have been a remorseless enslaver and abuser of black people, a tireless pro-slavery activist, a religious fundamentalist, and a proponent of genocide and land theft. The full lyrics of his song contain a ghoulish and sadistic call for the mass murder of enslaved black people who might attempt to free themselves from US clutches, as well as evidence of the US intent to continue genocide and land theft campaigns against the Native nations.

It seems that asking a black or Native person to respect or honor this song would be like asking a Jewish person to honor a song written by a Nazi. Even if the most blatantly offensive lyrics were removed, it is hard to imagine that anyone in the US, except maybe a neo-Nazi, would feel any anger towards a Jewish person who refused to honor a song written by, say, Joseph Goebbels.

'Neurotoxin': Floridians freaked out by Zika mosquito poison spraying

Miami Beach citizens have confronted city authorities over the aerial spraying of a toxic substance intended to kill disease-carrying mosquitos in an effort to stop the spread of the Zika virus. The number of mosquito-borne Zika infections in and around Miami Beach has been on the rise, resulting in county authorities authorizing the spraying of a 1.5-square-mile area with chemicals intended to kill the flying insects, the primary carrier of the disease.

Miami-Dade County mayor Carlos Gimenez authorized the use of trucks with wind turbines to spray chemicals on the streets, and as well as aerial spraying.

The latter method has sparked controversy among citizens, concerned about the toxicity of Naled, one of the two insecticides being used.

Social engineering and technocratic management for the rise of the global police state

Big bro
Much has been written about the approaching Police State in alternative media. Commentary ranges from various warnings, to shock and outrage, and fear over an impending martial law takeover in North America and Western Europe. It's hitting us from so many different angles, and yet the mainstream conversation continues to be woefully inadequate in both characterising the situation and offering a remedy.

In order to really understand the modern Police State, we need to explore some very profound and difficult questions. Many people who consider themselves aware think Western society has already reached the tipping point and the deteriorating situation is simply inevitable. If you feel like Winston Smith right about now you aren't alone.

Prior to the mid 1990s, one might have described the militarisation of public law enforcement something of a creeping paradigm, but one that was still a long way off. Society explored many aspects of the Police State, both the physical and Orwellian psychological scenario, through literature and film. American science fiction writer Philip K. Dick penned some significant works like The Minority Report, and cinematic hits like Paul Verhoeven's Robocop and Terry Gilliam's Brazil also explored what this dystopic, future vision of fascist technocracy might look like. As it turned out, and far from fantasy, countless devices, systems and themes depicted in so many of these supposedly 'fictional' classics have since made their way into our day to day lives. The dark dream became real.

Unfortunately, as humanity's freshmen class of the early 21st century, we can no longer afford the intellectual distance enjoyed by previous generations between life today and that blurry, far-off spectre of something that might arrive sometime at some point in the future.
