Police scan the scene at 79th Street and Liberty Avenue in Ozone Park, Queens, where an imam and a second man were shot near their mosque.

A lone gunman killed a Queens imam and his assistant as the pair walked home from Saturday afternoon prayers, shooting each in the head from close range, cops and witnesses said.

Both victims were dressed in Muslim garb when targeted by the shooter, who fled the scene on foot and remained at large. Members of the mosque quickly denounced the double homicide as a hate crime.

"That's not what America is about," said local resident Khairul Islam, 33. "We blame Donald Trump for this ... Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia."

Some 4,000 supporters of marijuana legalization in Germany rolled through central Berlin. Demonstrators called on the government to allow marijuana for a broader medical use and stop prosecution for its possession.

According to police figures, some 4,000 people took part in Saturday's rally with no incidents or arrests reported. The crowds initially gathered at the central railway station before moving to the federal Health Ministry and then to the iconic Alexanderplatz.

"The marijuana parade is the largest demonstration for the legalization of Cannabis as commodity, medicine, and natural stimulant in Germany," the organizers wrote on their website. The latest march was staged under the slogan "Legalization is in the air" and was the 20th in a row after the movement was established in Berlin in 1997.

People carried banners saying, "My brain belongs to me," and "Cannabis is my medicine."

Police in Milan were left red faced after thieves managed to rob a bank, even though they had received warnings from local residents that something fishy was going on in the vicinity.

The heist was pulled off on Friday as four robbers who had dug a tunnel under the bank waited for the employees to arrive at around 9:30 am and then forced them to open the vault at gunpoint.

The thieves, who all had their faces covered, quickly emptied the safety deposit boxes and made their way back through the tunnel with their loot. Police arrived at the scene too late, as the bank robbers had already made their getaway, the La Stampa newspaper reported.

An explosive state audit of a secretive California gang database used by law enforcement showed 42 profiles were for 1-year-old children, half of whom apparently confessed to being in gangs. The database, paid for by taxpayers, is rife with other errors.

Of those profiles for 1-year-old children, 28 were entered for "admitting to being gang members," according to State Auditor Elaine Howle in a statement issued with the report The CalGang Criminal Intelligence System on Friday.

Shock troops: Nearly 100 kids were tased by US school police over last 5 years

More and more school police officers are armed with Tasers, which are not used sparingly, according to a new analysis.
The number is likely deceptively low since the Huffington Post analysis was entirely based on media reports.

At least 84 children were Tasered at school in the past five years, which have seen an unprecedented rise in school police, according to an analysis by the Huffington Post published Thursday.

No records exist logging Taser usage in schools, so the count relied on media reports, though many cases likely never made it to local papers. The distribution of Tasers and of school police, though, has visibly risen, according to both state and federal numbers.

The 12 to 19-year-olds were disproportionately Black and were often reprimanded for insignificant acts: running away from the principal, fighting with other students or talking back to a police officer.

Comment: Police state norms have now infiltrated schools making them more into daytime prisons:

Egyptian judoka jeered, refuses to shake Israeli opponent's hand

Egyptian judoka Islam El Shehaby was loudly booed at the Olympic Games for refusing to shake the hand of his Israeli opponent, Or Sasson, at the end of their first-round match. The Israeli defeated the Egyptian with two throws to claim victory, with around 90 seconds remaining in the contest. El Shehaby lay flat on his back for a moment before standing to take his place across from Sasson.

The Israeli fighter offered his hand, but El Shehaby shook his head and backed away. The referee called the Egyptian back to the mat and instructed him to bow. El Shehaby gave a quick nod of his head before leaving.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) said the fact that the fight even took place was a major sign of progress. Spokesman Nicolas Messner said judokas were under no obligation to shake hands, but bowing is compulsory. Messner confirmed that the IJF would review El Shehaby's conduct to determine if any further action should be taken.

El Shehaby had come under pressure in the run-up to the fight to pull out. The Egyptian Olympic Committee warned El Shehaby that his citizenship would be revoked if he withdrew from the bout, but fans still made their feelings known on social media.

Kadiza Sultana, missing, presumed dead.
One of three British teenagers referred to as "Jihadi Brides," who left their families to join the violent Daesh extremist group, is believed to have been killed in an airstrike in Raqqa, according to a lawyer for the teen's family. Kadiza Sultana, one of three London teenagers who abandoned both family and A-level courses in the town of Bethnal Green of London Borough, joined Daesh, a jihadist group outlawed in Russia and many other countries.

According to Tasnime Akunjee, the lawyer for the Sultana family, the teen is believed to have been killed during an airstrike on Raqqa, the de-facto capital of Daesh. According to media reports, the airstrike was conducted by Russian air forces several weeks ago. According to Akunjee, Sultana's family received reports of her death from sources in Raqqa a few weeks ago, but have not been able to independently confirm the details. The fate of the teen remains unknown.

Was NYPD beating or beaten, scuffle is not the whole story

Darrell Simmons, brute and victim
A short video of two NYPD officers aided by a bystander repeatedly punching a prone black suspect in the head as witnesses plead for them to stop is causing uproar on social media. However, the NYPD says the full story paints the opposite picture.

The 27-second clip posted on Instagram by hocus45th on Friday accompanied by the caption "F*** THE POLICE" is said to have originally been filmed on May 4 of this year. The fight between the officers from the Bronx Warrants Squad and the suspect, who was identified as Darnell Simmons, 27, broke out in a McDonald's in the Bronx, police have confirmed.

Simmons, who at the time of the filming does not appear to be resisting or show any attempt to escape, is seen being held down by one of the detectives and an assisting restaurant customer, while another NYPD officer brutally pounds on the suspect's head.

Comment: If what the officers say is true, that Simmons was the attacker, it isn't evident on the available short video clip. Instead we see Simmons being unnecessarily brutalized. Either the officers are misrepresenting the incident, or this is a handy editing of a seven-minute scuffle to give a biassed impression to incite social media...which it did. We need to question what we see; it isn't always the whole story. Regardless, there is still no excuse for the subsequent relentless pounding displayed by the captors of this already subdued and passive suspect.

Study: Worldwide commercial air crashes are increasing

Aircraft
Nearly two airplanes have crashed every year since 2010, making the past six years one of the darkest periods for commercial passenger transport the world over, according to Mark D Martin Llc, a US-based aerospace consulting firm. Including the incidence of Emirates Airline crash-landing on 3 August, data compiled by the firm indicates 11 crashes since 2010. This includes only commercial airliner aircraft crashes and not business jets, private aircraft and helicopters.

Of these, three mishaps (including the latest one), occurred in 2016 alone. The Boeing 777 flight crash-landed at Dubai air strip after its attempt to "go-around" went horribly wrong due to a sudden change in winds. A "go-around" means aborting a landing at the last minute to go up again and attempt a safe landing for the second time. On 19 March, a Flydubai Boeing 737-800 flight FZ-981 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to Russia's Rostov-on-Don with 55 passengers and seven crew members crashed on the destination site leaving no survivors. On 19 May, an Egypt Air flight MS804 with 66 people on board crashed into the Mediterranean.
