River in arctic Russian city mysteriously turns blood red: Update nickel plant at fault

Startled residents of a Russian city inside the Arctic Circle have been posting photos of a local river that has mysteriously turned blood red.

Photos published on Russian social media appear to the show the Daldykan River near the city of Norilsk flowing crimson. Russian authorities have yet to establish a reason for the river's unusual appearance, but local people quickly linked it to a giant metals plant upstream. Russia's Environment Ministry said it was investigating the plant as the likely cause.

Norilsk is known as one of the most polluted cities on earth, built around factories mostly belonging to the vast metals company Norilsk Nickel. Some Norilsk residents wrote in a local social media group that they believe the river's biblical shade is linked to runoff from a nearby smelting plant.

Some suggested the color was being produced by wastewater mixed with mineral ore leaking into the river from the Hope Metals Plant.

Comment: The Norilsk nickel plant has admitted to be the cause:
Russian metals giant Norilsk Nickel has admitted that a spillage at one of its plants was responsible for a local river turning blood red.

Despite initially denying that it was responsible, Norilsk Nickel admitted on September 12 that heavy rains on September 5 had resulted in water flooding over a "filtration dam" at the plant and into the river.

"Despite the short-term discoloration of the water...this incident does not present a danger for people or fauna in the river," said a statement from Norilsk Nickel, the world's largest producer of nickel and other major industrial metals.

But activists said it was too early to evaluate the environmental impact of the spillage as the official investigation was still ongoing.

Police diversity chief admits London police target young black men to boost arrest rates

Metropolitan Police officers "routinely discriminate against black people" in stop-and-search operations in the British capital, according to Scotland Yard's new head of diversity.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Victor Olisa said it is accepted practice in the force to stop young black men to try and boost arrest rates for drugs such as cannabis, while officers turned a blind eye to white men who may be carrying cocaine.

Olisa, 57, one of Scotland Yard's most senior black officers, said the discrimination was driven by performance, rather than racism. If drugs were found, the officer would repeat the same process to get the results, he said.

"You end up building a process and a stereotype. The cop on the ground is just doing it because of what he or she thinks is right, they are not doing it because they are racist.

"But when you look at the accumulated data you see massive disproportionality. I think that's where we get lost."

The 12-minute video, 'The Making of Illusion', which also features a clip of former British prime minister David Cameron , has been described at the 'worst video' from the terrorist group.

The video was released yesterday as Muslims around the world celebrated Eid al-Adha, one of the most important holy festivals for the faith.

Muslims traditionally slaughter sheep, cattle and other livestock during the three-day festival.

British 'jihadist bride' Sally Jones is reportedly heading a new wave of all-female Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) cells with their children in tow, helping them to prepare revenge attacks on the West. The so-called 'white widow' is a former punk rocker from Kent who converted to Islam and traveled to Syria with her 11-year-old son Joe 'JoJo' Dixon to marry terrorist hacker Junaid Hussain. He was killed in a US drone strike in Raqqa last year.

Jones, 47, has apparently since been leading the female wing of the Anwar al-Awlaki battalion, which is made up of foreign fighters and designed to carry out terrorist attacks abroad. Jones, who now goes by the name of Umm Hussain al-Britani, trains the soldiers in combat and strategies for "suicide missions against western targets," according to an IS defector who spoke to the Mirror.

"Umm Hussain is also influential in her own right," the defector added. "Since she was the reason ISIS was able to recruit a lot of Western girls to Raqqa: it's not easy to convince a Christian, rock girl to become an extremist. "ISIL respects her because she is the widow of Junaid - who was very important to the group," he added. "They want to send a message to their important fighters that they will respect their families and guarantee a good life for them after their death."

Comment: A recruiter and propagandist for ISIS, Jones, also known as "jihadi bride" and "Mrs. Terror," threatened UK civilians with a 2016 summer of bomb attacks, emphasizing Central London, Glasgow and towns in Wales. She has been sanctioned as an agent operating on behalf of a terrorist organization by the UN, USA and UK.

She operates on Twitter, and has threatened the lives of U.S. veterans Robert O'Neill and Dillard Johnson, among others, including her wish to behead a Western prisoner in Syria and behead Christians with a 'blunt knife.' In September 2015, Jones threatened U.S. military personnel, publishing 100 soldiers' personal information in a "kill list" including a Navy Seal veteran who took part in Operation Geronimo to kill Osama bin Laden and a former army sergeant. Sally Jones and her ten-year-old son live in ISIS-controlled Raqqa, Syria.

Threats are a fear-ratchet if done well, a huff-and-puff form of moving and shaking society. Walk back ISIS and you find the CIA.

Yahoo 7 News, Australia, reports: "A four-year-old who identifies as transgender has begun to transition before their first day at school, hoping to complete the full transformation by 2017.

"While the child is the youngest on Australian record to change their gender, the New South Wales government has revealed 'hundreds' of other children are being referred to the state's hospitals for gender dysphoria."

"The four-year-old is reportedly being supported throughout the transition by the education department, and is part of the Safe Schools program."

Girls as young as 11 are being groped, sneered at and insulted with sexual slurs such as "slag" and "slut" by male pupils in school, in what's described as a daily occurrence in a new report.

According to research by the Women and Equalities Committee, those girls who dared to complain about the harassment were told "boys will be boys" or that the comments were merely a joke. Sexist remarks and sexual harassment, unlike homophobia and racism, are currently rarely recorded by teachers and school officials.

"Our inquiry has revealed a concerning picture," said committee chair and Tory backbencher Maria Miller. "We have heard girls talk about sexual bullying and abuse as an expected part of their everyday life; with teachers accepting sexual harassment as 'just banter'; and parents struggling to know how they can best support their children.

"It is difficult to explain why any school would allow girls to be subjected to sexual harassment and violent behavior that has been outlawed in the adult workplace. The evidence shows it is undermining the confidence of young women."

A top judge asked an alleged victim why she "couldn't keep her knees together" and suggested young women want to have sex when they're drunk, shocking new court documents reveal.

Robin Camp, 64, now faces the sack for his controversial comments made during a trial, in which he said: "Why didn't you just sink your bottom down into the basin so he couldn't penetrate you?"

The remarks were made during a five-day trial in which Alexander Wagar stood accused of raping the 19-year-old woman over a bathroom sink during a house party.

Camp's comments have been made public by the Canadian Judicial Council as Camp faces a probe into his conduct. The council launched an investigation into the remarks and will decide next week if the judge should be struck off.

Court documents also reveal that the Canadian federal court judge said young women "want to have sex, particularly if they're drunk" during the 2014 trial.

A former Ohio mayor has admitted to repeatedly raping a child, prosecutors said — but the self-described Christian blames the girl for her own sexual abuse.

Richard Keenan, who served as mayor of Hubbard in 2010 and 2011, was indicted last month eight counts of rape and 12 counts of attempted rape and gross sexual imposition, reported the Youngstown Vindicator.

The 65-year-old Keenan pleaded not guilty last month during a court appearance, but prosecutors said he admitted to sexually assaulting the girl over a three-year period, beginning when she was 4 years old.

Prosecutors said Keenan confessed to the sex abuse to his wife, a pastor, a social worker and his brother- and sister-in-law.

According to court filings, the child told Keenan's wife about the abuse and she confronted him — and he then admitted "I did it." Keenan also admitted the abuse during group discussions at a nearby hospital, and he then voluntarily checked himself into a psychiatric facility because he was suicidal.
