Brand new Boeing plane literally falls apart over Rome: Engine fails, breaks off and rains debris on people, homes and vehicles

Comment: Just take your planes and go home, Boeing, you're drunk!

Seriously though, this is getting ridiculous. Boeing is a public safety hazard.

A Norwegian Air Boeing 787 plane was forced to turn around in Rome and make an emergency landing after engine failure caused hundreds of fragments to rain down on vehicles, homes and people below.

One person, 25 vehicles and 12 houses were struck by fragments falling from the Dreamliner flight DY-7115 from Rome to Los Angeles. Pilots declared an emergency when it suffered single-engine failure at 3,000 feet shortly after takeoff on Saturday, and returned to Rome's Fiumicino Airport 23 minutes after departure with 310 passengers and crew on board. There were no reported injuries.

However, eyewitness reports of hundreds of pieces of hot debris raining down on the area surrounding the airport soon emerged. Images of smashed windscreens, damaged roofs and other objects in people's gardens were shared online. One person received mild burns from the falling pieces, according to Italian media.

A woman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been arrested after attacking her three-year-old daughter with a machete, sending the child to an emergency room in critical condition, local media report.

The child was rushed Albert Einstein Medical Center shortly after 8pm local time with wounds to her head, shoulder and knee, following the brutal attack by her own mother inside their home.

"It appears as though the parent was under the influence of something," police told local media, without stating whether anyone else was present at home at the time of the attack.

The rise and fall of ISIS

Daesh pins are on display at an Islamic bookstore where books about Islam, militant Islamic leaders and Islamic flags are displayed in the Fatih district of Istanbul, Monday, Oct. 13, 2014
A year or two ago, I would have never imagined that I would be writing an article with this title, at least not this soon; but things change.

If anything, my previous articles about ISIS which I wrote back between 2014 and 2017 were very alarming and predicted the worst, but again, things change, and back then there were many reasons to feel alarmed.

I have reiterated in that era of the past that the ISIS ideology had deep roots in fundamentalist Islam, and I still have this view. I have professed many times that this fundamentalist doctrine had been in place long before Christopher Columbus set a foot on American soil and that we cannot blame the CIA, Israel, the UK, or the West in general for the creation of this ideology, and I am not retracting. I have also said that those fundamentalist views do not represent real Islam, and there is no change in heart on this aspect either. So what has changed?

Democratic Socialists of America is doomed - UPDATE

Comment: The following article is apparently fictional. The pseudonymous author claims he wrote it and submitted it to Quillette as 'bait'...
On Thursday, August 8, right-wing media outlet Quillette published a hit piece on the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) that was allegedly written by a construction worker in Queens named Archie Carter, who expressed deep frustration with the "hipster comics and neurotic office workers" of the DSA. Carter's exposé , which played up the right-wing notion that the left is badly out of touch with blue-collar workers, quickly went viral. Problem: the article was a hoax and a fabrication. "Archie Carter" (described as a "Marxist-Leninist-Alinskyite" in the article, which ran with the headline "DSA Is Doomed") was a fictional character, and the 24-year-old Illinois resident who wrote it had deceived Quillette — which took the bait and was humiliated badly.

In an interview with Jacobin Magazine, "Carter" discusses his hoax and his reasons for baiting and brutally deceiving Quillette. "Carter," who describes himself as a "left-populist," set out to prove how gullible right-wing media outlets can be — and Quillette fell right into his trap by not even bothering to fact-check the article or verify that "Archie" (who claimed to be a New York Mets fan) was a real-life construction worker from Queens.
What these clever cats fail to realize, however, is that the video of the Democratic Socialists of America's convention speaks for itself...

democratic socialists of america
I am working class and a Marxist-Leninist. I believe in a revolution of the proletariat, and the usurpation of the ruling class. As I looked around the political landscape after Donald Trump's election win, I noticed the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Curious, and hoping for a radical and viable alternative to the two establishment parties, I took myself along to a meeting. While DSA do not perfectly align with my politics, I became a dues-paying member all the same, attracted by the party's subversive potential. I attended meetings of the Brooklyn DSA chapter, and participated in many NYC-DSA actions — sit-ins, marches, labor protests — because of my steadfast belief in the transformative power of solidarity. I would approach political activity with this maxim in mind: what would Alinsky do?

It soon became clear that I had not found a political home here. This was not the party of the working class I had expected — at least, that was my experience of the New York DSA and its various sub-chapters. Instead, its members and leadership seemed to be mostly NYU grad students, hipster comics, and neurotic office-workers. I became uncomfortable, then disenchanted, and then I just stopped going to DSA meetings altogether.

'Pollution incident' turns River Frome tributary blue, follows mass fish die off week before

A tributary of the River Frome has turned bright blue.
The government is monitoring a river in Somerset after it turned a bright, electric blue.

The Environment Agency said the drastic colour change affecting a tributary of the River Frome was a "pollution incident".

There are no reports of wildlife in distress or dead, a spokesperson for the agency's southwest contingent said on Friday.

Government experts will continue to monitor the stream over the weekend and samples have been taken for testing.

Comment: As with the 'mystery chemical incident' at Worthing Pier that sent 2 people to hospital just a few days ago in the UK, the cause behind the incident has yet to be explained by authorities.

Epstein's death must be the start, not the end, of the investigation

epstein
There are a number of royal palaces and grand residences of former Presidents and Prime Ministers where the inhabitants have a little bit more spring in their step following the death of Jeffrey Epstein. The media is rushing to attach the label "conspiracy theory" to any thought that his death might not have been suicide. In my view, given that so many very powerful people will be relieved he is no longer in a position to sing, and given that he was in a maximum security jail following another alleged "suicide attempt" a week ago, it would be a very credulous person who did not view the question of who killed him an open one.

There has been a huge amount of obfuscation and misdirection on the activities of Epstein and his set. To my mind, the article which remains the best starting point for those new to the scandal is this one from Gawker.

Two days ago a federal court unsealed 2000 pages of documents related to the allegations against Epstein. Of these the most important appears to be a witness statement from Virginia Giuffre alleging that while a minor she had sex at Epstein's direction with Senate Majority leader George Mitchell and former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, plus a variety of senior foreign politicians.

Epstein's sexual activities and partying with young girls were carried out in full view of key friends, his domestic and office staff, his pilots and of course the participants. There is no shortage of potential witnesses. Several of these really ought to be taking great care - though if I were them I would certainly eschew any protection involving US security services or law enforcement. Ghislaine Maxwell might take heed of her father's fate and avoid swimming for a few years.

Police reportedly cleared Worthing pier and the surrounding area.
Two people were taken to hospital on Sunday following a "hazardous material incident" on Worthing seafront that left a number of people complaining of vomiting and sore eyes.

A cordon was set up, a section of the beach was evacuated and people were told to avoid the area and close their doors and windows.

Tim Loughton, the MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, tweeted that an investigation had been launched in response to reports of "bathers affected by some sort of chemical type irritants". The incident took place around midday.

Comment: As of Monday, the cause of the incident remains unexplained.

Trade war chaos collapses farm equipment sales across midwest

John deere stores
Reuters spoke with dozens of John Deere Stores across the Central and Midwest US to get a better understanding of what the trade war and adverse weather conditions have had on tractor sales this year. What they discovered was an ominous sign of an agriculture bust that has triggered massive tractor sales declines at dozens of John Deere Stores.

About a half dozen stores across the Midwest told Reuters sales in 1H19 collapsed. One store, in Geneseo, Illinois, saw sales crash 50% in 1H19 YoY.

A Salem, Wisconsin-based store said sales dropped 15% in 1H19, led by the rapid decline of large farm equipment. Already, sales orders for tractors next season are down 25%, an indication the farm bust will continue through 2020.

We reported several months ago that JPMorgan told clients the American agriculture complex is on the verge of disaster, with farmers caught in the crossfire of an escalating trade war.

What happens to Jeffrey Epstein's wealth and property now?

Jeffrey Epstein’s home sits on the island of Little St. James in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was one of many homes owned by the hedge fund manager, including ones in Palm Beach, Manhattan, Paris and New Mexico.
Can feds seize everything?

Jeffrey Epstein's apparent suicide is a significant obstacle for federal prosecutors, who spent months painstakingly building a case against the multimillionaire who was charged in July in New York federal court with sex trafficking of minors.

Now, the dozen or more new victims who came forward after Epstein's July arrest will never get their day to face him in court. And what kind of financial compensation the future holds for them, if any, is uncertain.

In an indictment filed in the Southern District of New York in July, federal prosecutors laid out their intention to confiscate Epstein's properties that were used to facilitate the sexual abuse of minor victims. However, his death poses a significant challenge in using asset forfeiture to provide restitution to the multimillionaire's alleged victims.

"It going to be complicated," former federal prosecutor Jeff Marcus said.

Prosecuting human traffickers poses significant challenges, top prosecutor says

Child trafficking

Rights activists, under the umbrella of the Justice Development and Peace commission, march against the illegal human trafficking and countrywide violence during a protest march on March 18, 2017 in Lagos.
More than 100 child sex trafficking victims were rescued across the U.S. last month in an effort code-named Operation Independence Day that involved sweeps in Las Vegas, Atlanta and Seattle and resulted in 67 arrests.

One such case that won't be prosecuted is that of former disgraced financier Jefferey Epstein, who authorities said died of suicide in his jail cell on Saturday. Epstein was charged with human trafficking, among other things, by the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

U.S. Attorney General William Barr has said that such cases are a priority, sex trafficking crimes are uniquely difficult to prosecute.

According to the Department of Justice, the law defines human trafficking as "the act of compelling or coercing a person's labor, services, or commercial sex acts. The coercion can be subtle or overt, physical or psychological, but it must be used to coerce a victim into performing labor, services, or commercial sex acts."
