Heartless police chief resigns after shooting and killing caged puppy

Police Chief Andrew Spencer and puppy
Police Chief Andrew Spencer resigned this week after it was revealed that he shot and killed an innocent dog that was in a cage and meant no one any harm. To make matters even worse, he took the puppy to a firing range and killed it there because he did not want to deal with finding its home.

Spencer found the dog and managed to get it into a cage using a catcher pole. He then wrote in his report that he had planned to take the dog to a shelter where it would be "destroyed," but then he got another call about a car accident so he decided to do it himself.

The report said that he had planned to go to "the cheapest vet to destroy the dog at the cost of the city." However, the report continued "Due to the higher priority call and the imminent destruction of the dog, I decided it was best to destroy the dog and respond to the accident."

First U.S. flight of fancy new Airbus 350 Jet aborted by its computer

The inaugural U.S. flight of one of Airbus's newest aircraft models was supposed to be a big deal, showcasing the impressive new jumbo jet on its very first trip from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport.

Instead, it was spectacularly terrifying and embarrassing fail. The high tech jet's computer system aborted it's own takeoff โ€” because it deemed the runway too short.

Journalists and staff were among the passengers on the Airbus A350 for the chartered Qatar Airways flight that was supposed to travel 12 hours to Hamad International Airport.

The airplane even had screens on each seatback via which the passengers could watch the taxi and takeoff as it happened. Unfortunately, rather than watching the plane soar to 30,000 feet, it taxed, picked up speed โ€” and then came to a startling and screeching halt.

A Swedish court on Friday sentenced a male daycare (dagis) worker to six and a half years in prison for four cases of rape and 20 cases of sexual assault against toddlers aged one to three in his charge.

The 40-year-old man, who worked at 40 different daycares in the southern municipality of Kristianstad as a temp agency employee, pleaded guilty to the charges, a statement from the Kristianstad district court said.

The assaults took place at eight of the daycares where he worked from March 2014 until June 2015.

"The man sexually abused several girls during diaper changes. The girls were between one and three years old. The 40-year-old, documented the abuses himself with his mobile phone camera," the court said.

"The crimes are considered aggravated because of the way he carried them out, the fact that he abused his position as a child minder, and that he abused the trust he enjoyed," it added.

"Crimes like these are very rare," court spokesman Markus Nilsson told the AFP news agency.

The defendant also found guilty of one charge of abusive photography and one case of aggravated child pornography for documenting the abuses and saving the photographs on his computer.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, was caught in July when he sexually abused a young girl at a theme park where he was employed.During police interrogation he came clean about the daycare assaults and rapes.

Comment: Offenses like these are not rare. They happen all over the world and are covered up. Once upon a time, in a frozen tundra not so far away, people like this man were pushed off glaciers into freezing water.

Question

Are people waking up? Facebook's most discussed topics of 2015 are surprisingly devoid of fluff

thumbs up octopus
Facebook can tell us a number of things about the world around us, although sometimes those things blow up your news feed and take over your Internet experience. Whether it is the Kardashian family, including Kanye West doing or saying something ridiculous, or a political event or scandal that invokes conversation worldwide through the inter-webs, Facebook [and Twitter] usually becomes the hub of developing news stories where the public weighs in and decides which conversations turn into the talk of the day.

Facebook recently released its 'Most Discussed Topics of 2015,' and surprisingly the list has become slightly less like the lists of previous years. Check out the list below:
  1. 2016 United States presidential election
  2. Nov. 13 attacks in Paris
  3. Syrian war and refugee crisis
  4. Nepal earthquakes
  5. Greek debt crisis
  6. Marriage equality
  7. Fight against the Islamic State group
  8. Charlie Hebdo attack
  9. Baltimore protests
  10. Charleston shooting and Confederate flag debate

Comment: Keep spreading the gospel of truth. There's loads more zombies out there.

Utah reduced chronic homelessness by 91 percent and here's how

Homeless camp in Utah
© Cayce Clifford for NPRHomeless camp in Utah
A decade ago, Utah set itself an ambitious goal: end chronic homelessness.

As of 2015, the state can just about declare victory: The population of chronically homeless people has dropped by 91 percent.

The state's success story has generated headlines around the country, and even The Daily Show With Jon Stewart looked to Utah to understand how the state achieved its goal.

In fact, Utah still has a substantial homeless problem. The overall homeless population is around 14,000.

I get probably two to five calls a week now, wanting to know how we did it, what's unique about Utah.

Homeland Security deployed hi-tech spy plane above San Bernardino for days after massacre

Federal investigators looking into the San Bernadino massacre deployed a spy plane overhead after the attacks in an apparent attempt to find additional suspects, Daily Mail Online can reveal.

The Department of Homeland Security is said to have put up the single engine craft over the California city and ordered it to make repeated circles overhead.

The craft would likely have been equipped with 'Dirtbox' technology which can scan tens of thousands of phones in one go to identify suspects.

The report adds to the intrigue about whether or not there were accomplices in the San Bernardino attacks, which took place last Wednesday and were the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11.

Sofrep, which first reported the plane's use, said the use of the spy plane showed that law enforcement was 'actively searching for other members of a terrorist cell.'

Student loan craziness: Wages for college grads nearly the same as they were 40 years ago

college debt
A recent Pew Research report shows that the American middle class is disappearing. Most Americans are no longer considered middle class anymore. The wealth gap in this country, a gap that continues to grow, has already broken all records. In short, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

Data also shows that, despite the fact that many American college students enter their adult lives by taking on tens (and sometimes hundreds) of thousands of dollars in debt for the promise of a good job with better wages when they graduate, in reality, they are starting out making barely more than the average college graduate made nearly 40 years ago.

Comment: A college degree in the US is worth less and less. Compared to a traditional degree, one from YouTube University may be money and time better spent .

Scientology on trial: Will Belgium follow Russia in banning controversial organization?

A nearly two-month trial of the Church of Scientology's branch in Belgium is coming to a close, with a final verdict on whether the controversial organization will be banned in the country to be announced early next year.

The Church's branch in Belgium is no stranger to fighting fraud and extortion allegations in court. It already survived two major investigations there; one was launched by Belgian authorities in 1997 following former members' accusations of the Church's illegal practices. Another inquiry was triggered in 2008 by an employment agency claiming that the Church had made fake job offers in order to recruit new members.

The most recent charges against eleven members of the church and two affiliated bodies include allegations of running a criminal organization and violating privacy rights. If the Church is convicted of the offences, it could face a total ban in the European nation.

The church's officials claim they represent a peaceful religion and deny all accusations. They argue the charges are meant to defame the Church's reputation.

"You can't explain an investigation this long and of such relentlessness against people who were only trying to peacefully practice their religion in Belgium," the spokesman for the group in Brussels, Eric Roux, told Agence France-Presse.

Federal prosecutor Christophe Caliman has asked the court to completely dissolve the Belgian branch and to levy a fine against it. The court heard final arguments on Friday, with a verdict expected in February.

Comment: Scientology has some pretty dark connections. Belgium would be doing its country a service by following in Russia's footsteps.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have fatally shot a man in Lynwood. Called to the scene because he had a gun, the officers continued firing multiple rounds into the man's back even as he crawled away.

The man was judged to have been acting erratically and there were reports he was firing his gun into the air at a busy intersection in the LA area. An official report, according to the Los Angeles Times, details how the officers responded to the messages of shots being fired at around 11am on Saturday, near the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue.

Comment: It is sad to think that some police officers look for any excuse to shoot and kill people. There doesn't seem to be any end in sight for this violence.

At least 22 people have been killed and about two dozen injured in a fire at a neurological hospital in Russia's central Voronezh region. Authorities scour the rubble of the wooden structure which was destroyed by the blaze.

Some 70 patients were inside the building, along with at least four medical personnel, when the fire started. At least 29 of the patients were reportedly bedridden or with limited mobility.

Only 57 people have been evacuated from the burning building, according to emergency services working at the scene. Over 20 of them have been hospitalized after suffering injuries. Two of the wounded succumbed to their injuries en route to hospital, an emergency services source told RIA.

One person is still missing, according to the Emergencies Ministry. The authorities continue working at the scene. The roof of the single-story unit collapsed when the fire consumed all 600 square meters of the building.
