22% of UK parents can't afford childcare, resorting to debt, foodbanks to survive

The trust revealed that during the fist six months of the pandemic it distributed 1.2m food parcels, of which 470,000 went to families with children.
Low-income parents and those on universal credit are resorting to using food banks as a result of the high costs of childcare, according to a landmark UK survey shared with the Guardian.

As MPs debated the cost and availability of childcare in parliament on Monday, and echoed parents' call for an independent review, more evidence emerged that such families are struggling to cope with childcare fees.

Of those polled, 16% of parents with a household income of under £20,000 said they had used food banks as a result of childcare costs, with 1% of respondents who made more than that figure also having to rely on charity.

Comment: Since childcare workers aren't exactly commanding massive salaries what the above tells us is that, overall, at least 22% of people don't have enough funds to raise a family on.

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles held back tears on Wednesday, as she told lawmakers how the FBI and U.S. gymnastic and Olympic officials failed to stop the sexual abuse that she and hundreds of other athletes suffered from former doctor Larry Nassar.

"To be clear, I blame Larry Nassar and I also blame an entire system that enabled and perpetrated his abuse," she said before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee alongside fellow gymnasts McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Maggie Nichols.

Biles added that USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee failed to act while the FBI "turned a blind eye."

The Florida man sought for questioning in the mysterious disappearance of Gabby Petito broke his silence Tuesday, saying it's "an extremely difficult time" for both families.

"I understand that a search has been organized for Miss Petito in or near Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming," Brian Laundrie said in a statement, according to ABC News.

"On behalf of the Laundrie family it is our hope that the search for Miss Petito is successful and that Miss Petito is re-united with her family," said the statement, issued through an attorney.

A 22-year-old Long Island woman has gone missing under mysterious circumstances during a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend — and her family is seeking the public's help in finding her.

Gabby Petito was last known to be in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park in late August after embarking on the tour with her boyfriend — identified on social media as Brian Laundrie — the month before, Newsday reported.

Authorities said the vehicle the couple was traveling in, a white 2012 Ford Transit van with Florida plates, has been recovered, according to the outlet.

Laundrie, who has returned to his Florida home, has hired an attorney and has refused to cooperate with authorities, the Daily Mail reported, citing her family.

"Downsizing our life to fit into this itty bitty van was the best decision we've ever made," Laundrie wrote on Instagram on a page called "bizarre_design." "With the limited space we wanted to take advantage of every inch, while also keeping everything minimalist."

Petito's mother, Blue Point resident Nicole Schmidt, reported her missing to Suffolk County police late Saturday.

"Gabrielle Petito was traveling in a white, 2012 Ford Transit van with Florida license plate QFTG03 with a companion when she stopped communicating with friends and family," police said in a release.

The desperate mom told Newsday late Sunday that her daughter had FaceTimed her around Aug. 23 or 24 — and that although she received texts from her daughter's phone until Aug. 30, she wasn't sure she was the one who had sent them.

Petito's father, Joe Petito, told Newsday that her disappearance is like "drowning with your hands tied behind you," adding, "You can't describe it. There's nothing you can do. You can't control anything."

On June 17, Petito arrived in New York to attend her brother's high school graduation and then left on her cross-country adventure, Schmidt said.

Last month, the couple arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah, but left amid heavy wildfire smoke, according to Fox News.

Petito was expected to visit a family friend in Portland, Oregon, around Halloween, Newsday said.

"I can't say much, but she's no longer with the van," Schmidt told Fox News. "I don't want to say anything more than that but for people looking for her, I want them to look for her now, not look for that van anymore."

On Aug. 25, a photo of Petito was posted on her apparent Instagram account, which links to a video on a YouTube channel featuring a woman identified as Petito and a man traveling in a converted van.

The clip, which was posted Aug. 13, shows scenes of the woman in various outdoor settings.

Petito was described by police and on a GoFundMe page as 5 feet 5, 110 pounds, blond with blue eyes.

"She has a triangle tattoo on left arm with flowers and a 'Let it be' tattoo written on her right arm. She has a Belly button piercing," the post said.

"While we are working with the FBI, multiple law enforcement agencies, and outside resources to pursue any and all leads the family will need funds and resources to travel and pay for expenses related to an investigation and search on the other side of the country, any help is appreciated," it added.

Public health officials in Los Angeles County will begin requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for patrons and workers at indoor bars, wineries, breweries and nightclubs next month.
Los Angeles County is set to require proof of COVID-19 vaccination at indoor bars, and other nightlife destinations, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The new health department edict will be issued Friday and will require customers and workers to have at least once dose by Oct. 7 and be fully vaccinated by Nov. 4, the report said.

Additionally, lawmakers are considering a law requiring gym-goers to also have had at least one dose, according to the article.

Health officials drew up the mandate to fight the surging Delta variant, even as the county has seen a nearly 50 percent decline in cases over the past month, health statistics showed.

Twitter did not suspend rapper Nicki Minaj, despite her claim on Instagram that she had been. On Wednesday night, a spokesperson for the company told Mediaite, "Twitter did not take any enforcement action on the account referenced."

Minaj said she was suspended from Twitter on Wednesday, shortly after she posted a series of tweets regarding her claims about Covid-19 vaccination side-effects. In one of the Wednesday tweets, Minaj said she had been invited to the White House to discuss her concerns.

The rapper has faced criticism this week for claiming that the friend of her cousin in Trinidad became "impotent" and "his testicles became swollen" after taking the vaccine.

When asked about the rumor, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious diseases expert, said they were baseless.

"There's no evidence that it happens, nor is there any mechanistic reason to imagine that it would happen," Fauci said.

Trinidad's health minister was also forced to dispel the rumor. He lamented that "so much time" was wasted fact-checking the claim.

The National Institutes of Health provided a non-recommendation for the use of ivermectin in COVID-19, stating that there was:
"insufficient evidence ... to recommend either for or against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19."
The process for reaching that non-recommendation, however, is opaque. The Panel members responsible for therapy recommendations are disclosed and also that:
"... working groups propose updates to the Guidelines based on the latest published research findings and evolving clinical information."
However, NIH has gone to extreme efforts to avoid stating whether a vote was held to endorse the ivermectin non-recommendation. This includes fighting a Freedom of Information Act request in federal court. A deceptive non-vote would constitute an atrocity. NIH has also been secretive about the composition of the working group that proposed the ivermectin non-recommendation. The names of those individuals were redacted by the NIH from a document obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request for the agenda of a meeting considering ivermectin.

It has been clear for years that our society has been rapidly degenerating, but it really is now plumbing new depths. On the say-so of the Chief Scientific Officer, Chris Whitty, this country is to start the mass injections of dangerous experimental products into the arms of children aged 12-15, with or without their parent's consent. There is absolutely no scientific or medical reason for children to be given a "vaccine" for this illness since, according to possibly the world's leading epidemiologist, John Ioannidis of Stanford University, the Median Infection Fatality Rate for SARS-CoV-2 for 0-19 year-olds is 0.0027%, or a Survival Rate Estimate of 99.9973%.

Once in their arms, Messenger RNA will be carried around their bodies, causing their cells to become production factories for billions of synthetic Spike Proteins from the original virus — a virus which is no longer in existence, having been superseded by variants. These Spike Proteins are known to be pathogenic, and the cause of blood clotting far more than has been acknowledged, as a study using the D-Dimer test appears to have shown (details here). They will end up in organs throughout the body, with the long-term effects entirely unknown since long-term effects cannot possibly have been studied. What is known, however, is that in the short-term they can be exceedingly dangerous, with the MHRA, VAERS and EUDRA reporting systems in the UK, US and EU showing a clear link to tens of thousands of deaths across the world, and millions of adverse reactions, many of which are extremely serious (check out this excellent analysis of VAERS data for confirmation).

California voters overwhelmingly chose to keep Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom in office in a recall election on Tuesday. Newsom was spared after a projection by the Associated Press showed that a majority of voters opted against recalling him.

With 61 percent of the estimated vote in, early returns showed that 5.3 million voters supported keeping Newsom in office, while 2.5 million Californians voted in favor of his removal.

In remarks Tuesday evening at the California Democratic Party headquarters in Sacramento, Newsom said it "appears we are enjoying an overwhelmingly 'no' vote here tonight."

The Iowa-based conservative watchdog group Patriots Foundation filed a new complaint with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Monday against Media Matters for America (MMFA) arguing the tax-exempt group has violated its agency agreement with illegal electioneering.

Founded in 2004, the leftist non-profit was given 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status under IRS code which prohibits explicit campaign activity on behalf of any candidate or candidate's party. In a supplemental complaint added to an existing referral over last year's election, however, the Patriots Foundation argues the group's interference in the California recall race violates IRS terms for tax exemption.
"MMFA has, from inception, operated as a thinly veiled partisan political organization supporting Democratic candidates for office and engaging in other improper activities,"
The group outlined four parameters groups must follow in order to maintain their 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. They include:
Avoidance of unnecessary references to any election; Avoidance of unnecessary references to individuals' candidacies; Objective, factual analysis of candidates when they are referenced; and Avoidance of candidate characterizations which may endorse or oppose them in the race.

Comment: It seems, more and more the gloves are off, rules are ignored, protocol be damned - and those who infract just don't give a flippin' hoot. Elder, articulate and noteworthy, is the latest victim of corrupt political journalism.
